Making the Metro Sewer District, Louisville Water Company and Public Works a single company is a nightmare waiting to happen for Louisville. Greg Fischer believes that if he can make it happen, it’ll be his legacy. [WLKY]

The U.S. Conference of Mayors quietly led efforts to coordinate responses to protests. Oh, what? You’re shocked that Greg had something to do with that? [HuffPo]

Just in case you need a reason to roll your eyes even harder about that potential merger? Read this Louisville Water Company story. [WHAS11]

This is why Kentucky can’t have nice things. Corrupt Sylvia Lovely has convinced someone to hire her as a lobbyist. [Page One]

Do you think gambling will fail again this year, thanks to Steve Beshear? [H-L]

Unions in Louisville are unhappy with the way Greg Fischer is trying to “save” the city from overtime costs. He has no idea that all it takes is proper management and he wouldn’t be wasting umpteen millions of dollars per year. [FOX41]

You’re probably really excited about this MSD task force that started its work yesterday. [WFPL]

OH GOD WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE OF THE CROUP OR SOMETHING. Everybody freak out. Go to Kroger and buy up all the bread and milk just to be safe. [WAVE3]

If you’re considering a run for school board, don’t miss these shenanigans. Don’t allow a bait-and-switch to occur. [The 'Ville Voice]

You can bet Steve Imhoff did not enjoy having the public find out he was attempting a bait-and-switch. [C-J/AKN]

The 2012 Kentucky Derby Festival poster was released. Have you taken a look? [Business First]

Put down your coffee. Take a quick pee break. Then look at these photographs of Kevin Harned being…. um… just look. [Terry Meiners]

Remember the Louisville Zoo train disaster? Settlements have exceeded $525,000 in the mess. Your tax dollars at work. [H-L]

Will Allan Cowen be able to help the University of Louisville build its downtown presence or will his past behavior with the Fund for the Arts sour everything? $100,000 a year isn’t a bad salary for the school to shell out if he can make things happen. [WFPL]

Two Metro Police officers who saved the life of Erica Hughes have been awarded for their actions. [FOX41]

Doesn’t this story sound really familiar? About Chinese billionaires, J. Bruce Miller and the NBA? Wonder where it’s played out before? The NBA is not coming to Louisville any time soon, folks, so get over it. Beyond reading about it here first, it’s full-on reminiscent of the nightmare that played out in Lexington over the PeckerPointe tower. Some mysterious investors never materialized and then there were all kinds of excuses and a massive, empty green field in the middle of downtown. [C-J/AKN]

No one around here can understand why everyone is so bent out of shape over a contest in a magazine foodies don’t even read. And it’s for the south – a region Louisville certainly isn’t a part of. What does Louisville get if it wins? [Consuming Louisville]

And the wall came tumbling down? Moody’s put Louisville’s arena authority on a bond rating watch list. [WAVE3]

Economists are right. Casinos are not a cure-all for state budget nightmares. They’re just a bit of a needed boost. [Bluegrass Politics]

But here comes the gambling spin. It’ll save the day with its $1.7 billion alleged economic impact, right? [Business First]

At least Jefferson County Public Schools leads the nation in something. Could be worse than having the most hybrid buses. [WHAS11]

The State Senate judiciary committee is so afraid of opposition it refused to allow anyone with a bone to pick to speak during a three-hour hearing last week. That’s how money talks in Frankfort. [Page One]

Apparently the Holiday World folks don’t realize that the state still owes Ed Hart more than $4 million he spent trying to reopen Kentucky Kingdom. [WLKY]

Wondering why Greg Fischer gets away with nearly everything he bungles? Because 90% of people are likely as out-of-touch with reality as this individual who doesn’t think it’s a big deal to charge $20 to hear a mayor’s annual State of the City Address. [The 'Ville Voice]

Apparently ten billion people turned out to the Bridges Debacle meeting yesterday. [FOX41]

It’s always interesting to see how the Steve Beshear and Jim Ramsey crews spin things for the mainstream. The latest claim that the University of Louisville Hospital merger meeting with the governor was only an hour. Despite the fact that Ramsey was all over the Capitol Annex on both Wednesday and Thursday. [C-J/AKN]

And you thought the hospital merger discussion was over. Nope. They’re still going to find a way to try that mess again. [WHAS11]

Rather than write a story about Councilwoman Attica Scott begging Greg Fischer to tour the First Metro Council District, it wrote a story about how he’s joining her. But only after a lot of pressure and a press release sent by the majority caucus director. [Deep Council Thoughts]

Three days ago we ran a story about owner-surrenders at Louisville Metro Animal Services not being the nightmare that its administrators claimed. And they’re still foaming at the mouth about it. [The 'Ville Voice]

Louisville is woah fat and some people are trying to find out why. Why is Louisville fat? “‘I don’t know,’ says Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt, director of Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Welfare. ‘Most likely it’s a confluence of factors.’ She points to high rates of sedentary work, higher crime rates, and limited public transportation as possible causes.” [Click the Clicky]

Yes, you should be checking out Julius Caesar at the Walden Theatre. Michelle is right about it being one of Louisville’s gems. [Consuming Louisville]

How will Kentucky and Indiana pay for the bridges? Kentucky still has no idea, outside of massive tolls. Which is going to be awesome for the metro area, you know. Really affordable and all that. [WAVE3]

Betting on horse racing in the United States jumped 17.88% in December. But we’re still supposed to believe that horse tracks deserve a constitutional right to own casino licenses in Kentucky without allowing an actual free market approach. [Business First]

Want to adopt a pet but don’t want to deal with the flustercuck that is Metro Animal Services? Or you’re one of the many people sitting for several hours to be assisted? Consider heading to Frankfort to help alleviate problems caused by a rash of animal hoarding. [WLKY]

Is it a shame that the Hyatt was allowed to further erode public space on Fourth Street? Or is it a shame that people only complain after it’s too little, too late about crap like this happening in Louisville? You get what you pay for when it comes to elected officials like Jerry Abramson and Greg Fischer. Maybe it’s time for people to start paying more attention to planning and development in this city. Because this is becoming the norm – cars, cars, cars. Pedestrian spaces are becoming afterthoughts. [Broken Sidewalk]

And just like that, Gerald Neal’s corrupt days at the Metro Sewer District have ended. Funny how that works. Woopsiedaisy! Gerald can act like he’s “frustrated” to be dragged into the sewage but we all know why he was “quietly” let go. It’s because of his work with that shady investment lady, for which he likely also pocketed mountains of cash. Crit won’t say it but you know that’s part of her concern. [C-J/AKN]

Jerry Abramson is adjusting to his new life as lieutenant governor. His new job that has absolutely no constitutional duties. So he literally does nothing all day. [WHAS11]

Just a reminder that Louisville needs sidewalks for a very important reason. Something people like Anne Northup and Jerry Abramson ignored for a long time. [Broken Sidewalk]

Expanded gambling will certainly dominate this legislative session in Frankfort. While actual issues of importance get relegated to the sidelines again. [FOX41]

The Newburg Boys & Girls Club could open as early as this month. And that’s why Louisville can have nice things. [Business First]

But it wouldn’t be Louisville if there weren’t another story about a teenager being charged in two murders. [WLKY]

Does anyone in the Louisville metro area have warehouse space they’d be interested in providing to No Kill Louisville for its food bank? If so, please get in touch with Jake. [Contact Jake]

Regardless of what happens today with the University of Louisville Hospital merger decision, Kentuckians will still be screwed. You already expect it, we know. [FOX41]

Pro-tip to to Patti Swope: Stop spamming us and everyone else with unsolicited press releases. Or get a new PR agent who takes your business relationships more seriously. [Come On]

WHAS11 explores the lives of 3 transgendered women living in Louisville. And, of course, that exploration pushes nothing but stereotypes. Come on, Gene.
As I explained to Curt Morrison at the time, and he apparently didn’t take to heart, the person who solicited inaugural funds from Ed Hart and Bruce Lunsford was Tommy Elliott, not Christy Brown. I know because they told me so and have email trails to back it up. Even KREF is ignorantly placing blame in her lap. Christy may be the River Fields frenemy everybody loves to hate but she wasn’t involved in that mess of Greg Fischer’s. Maybe every other mess, but not that one. That’s all Tommy Elliott, Jim Mims and Bill Bardenwerper. Hopefully Christy will finally learn her lesson about trying to play power broker for her favorite little boy, Greg. [Curt Morrison]

Oh, look, the Ohio River Bridges Debacle talking points are spreading amongst the loyal. Thank goodness Kentucky has no money and won’t be able to build a downtown bridge.
You’ve seen the corruption Greg Stumbo admits publicly he’ll do nothing about, right? Because it involves his friend, Keith Hall? The guy Crit Luallen fingered in a massive audit? The guy Jack Conway refuses to investigate? The guy the Ethics Commission fined and spanked? Yeah. [Page One]

Frankfort is still living in the dark ages, believing their pseudoephedrine legislation will solve the meth problem. Something that’s only really an issue in ten counties. And wouldn’t be if more than 30% of doctors and pharmacists actually used systems that already exist. But that’s the Kentucky way – raising costs to Medicaid, killing tax revenue and playing to fears.
Sorry, WAVE, you didn’t have an exclusive on Senate Republicans meeting with Steve Beshear on gambling. Every outlet with a reporter in Frankfort or covering Frankfort had the story and interviews.
Chris Poynter says a decision will be made on January 3 about Occupy Louisville. But Jim Mims says the the park needs to be returned to a public square “as opposed to a settlement.” So which is it? It’s not like this incident is getting covered up like the last. It’s not like Jerry Abramson covering up for his son.
Last night Steve Beshear said Louisville bridge construction would begin within a year. Louisville residents know that couldn’t be further from reality.
How do you feel about Greg Fischer discussing the bridge nightmare with President Barack Obama? It’s a shame someone a bit less embarrassing can’t have that conversation for Louisville. [C-J/AKN]

David Jones is telling River Fields to suck it and get on with it. Unfortunately, he knows these people are too stubborn and ridiculous.
Like we told you yesterday, federal transportation officials are touring the Sherman Minton. But Greg Fischer wants to act like him having a 2-minute conversation with the president is what will really solve the bridges nightmare.
Here’s a feel-good dog rescue story from Eastern Kentucky that could brighten your day. [H-L]

HAHAHA! Who really thinks Jack Conway is going to upset Jim Ramsey and his wealthy supporters in declaring the University of Louisville Hospital public, which it clearly is?
Judy Green’s about to be removed from office on Monday and her “supporters” are still screaming racism. It’s a shame leaders like Maddie Jones excuse corruption and admitted abuse of the system – regardless of what it was for – and try blaming it on racism. We’ll never take her seriously again. Sure, the ignorant folks on Chris Thieneman’s website are happy to crack slavery jokes but Metro Council isn’t a bunch of racist idiots.
It’s almost strange to see solid vegetarian options at Proof. I don’t care what Michelle says, the food there has never been great for a vegetarian who didn’t want the standard stuff.
