Turns out Greg Fischer wasn’t so honest when interviewed by A Kentucky Newspaper regarding staff changes last week. He says he’s had very little staff turnover. Reality? He lost a scheduler and he let Jamiel go, in addition to Lisa Tanner walking away. So much for honesty, huh? And those are people you don’t just randomly let leave your campaign. They also have been known to stick with very difficult situations (see: Mongiardo, Daniel and Horne, Andrew).

Wait. It gets better.

Fischer said this about his new campaign manager, a guy with some taint following him:

“I like the fact that he had run or overseen successful mayoral campaigns in a metro area about our size and was also a chief of staff for a mayor whose budget is approximately the same size as Louisville’s.”

Uh, you ready, kids?

Providence, RI has a population of roughly 171,000. While the Providence metro area is larger, it’s part of Boston’s combined statistical area. Louisville has a population of roughly 700,000.

The Providence city budget is about $495 million. Louisville’s is, what?, $800 million-ish. Providence maintains its school budget in its general fund, jacking things up to about $620 million. We obviously don’t do that. If we did, we’d be at something like $1.3 or $1.4 billion. There are 23,000 students in the Providence school system. Louisville’s got about 100,000. See what I’m saying?

Additionally, Jefferson County’s total employment in 2008 was 538,283. Providence? 355,861. That’s a huge difference.

Does Greg Fischer know nothing about the city he wants to run? No wonder he takes pages and pages of notes during meetings – he’s wholly unaware and isn’t bothering to educate himself before he speaks or meets with folks.

Maybe he should stick to holding dinner parties where he doesn’t turn on the air conditioning, talking down to actual elected officials like he’s a condescending John Kerry.

The pretrial memo for Robert Felner’s accused co-conspirator (or whatever we’re calling him these days) hit the courts on the 19th and we’re finally getting around to talking about it.

Here are some excerpts:

Counts 1 through 3 of the Superseding Indictment allege that Schroeder and Felner used a sham entity, the National Center on Public Education and Prevention (NCPEp), to execute a scheme to defraud and to conspire to do the same. Count 1 charges that they executed a scheme using NCPEp to defraud the National Center on Public Education and Social Policy, a division of URI, (NCPE-URI), the Rock Island County Council on Addiction (RICCA), and the University of Louisville (UofL). Count 2 charges they conspired to use NCPEp to launder the proceeds of the fraud charged in Count 1. Count 3 charges that they conspired to defraud the Internal Revenue Service through, among other means, the use of NCPEp.

-SNIP-

In all instances, NCPEp was invoicing the three school districts, RICCA, and UofL for work it did not complete. The only distinction was that Schroeder, on behalf of the NCPEp, personally invoiced RICCA. The money from all three victims was laundered through NCPEp bank accounts controlled by Schroeder and/or Felner. RICCA was not aware of Schroeder’s involvement with NCPEp. Similarly, NCPE-URI and UofL were not aware of Felner’s involvement with NCPEp.

For the past year, we’ve been following the flustercuck rolling out of Owensboro Community and Technical College, part of the Kentucky Community & Technical College System. Former head of the school, Dr. Paula Gastenveld, sued KCTCS because she was allegedly fired for questioning how Kentucky WINS funding was being spent. And as we all know, because we’re borne of the Commonwealth of Kentucky – Land Of Good Old Boys, Bourbon & Obesity, you don’t question how powerful government officials spend tax dollars. We all know quite well that when you do that you wake up the next morning without a job. Or you never wake up and your body is found wrapped in burlap at the bottom of a well.

Here’s a quick refresher:

AG: KCTCS Must Turn Over Records [October 28, 2009]

Does This Have Something To Do With Mountjoy? [October 28, 2009]

KCTCS Is Wasting Your Tax Dollars [November 3, 2009]

So back to the story. OCTC refused to release Gastenveld’s evaluation despite a ruling from the Office of the Attorney General telling the school to just effing do it or else. Translation: your tax dollars were used by a public institution fighting the release of public documents. $145,017 of your tax dollars, to be specific.

Governor Steve Beshear’s people? Helen Mountjoy, Tommy Thompson, Reid Haire, Nick Brake, David Johnson and Michael McCall. Well, their taint is allegedly all over the place. And that brings us to today.

Something tells me you’ll want to CLICK HERE to read the rest…

You should help me provide kids in rural Kentucky with some books. It’ll change their lives and improve their education. And you don’t have to agree with me political in order to help or offer suggestions. You just have to care about the future of Kentucky’s youth. [Page One]

Louisville is nothing but a bunch of Frainch frogs! [WFPL]

On Monday, First Lady Jane Beshear released her summer reading list: Summer Reading Is Killing Me!, Tuck Everlasting, The Outsiders, Island of the Blue Dolphins, Slow Down for Manatees, Riddle of the Reef, Mountains Beyond Mountains, Gods of Manhattan, When Zachary Beaver Came to Town, Scat. [Press Release]

Kentucky’s June/fourth quarter receipts are a nightmare to behold. [Page One]

Remember the “journalist” that receives a rent-free apartment from a batshiz insane political blowhard in exchange for positive press? You know, the person shaking down PR execs and such for cash in exchange for coverage. Legitimate journalists or anybody with credibility on any level doesn’t do crap like that. Television stations should think twice about situations like this if they don’t want to slip further down the wormhole. [Deep Thoughts]

The Hitchcock summer series is returning to the Louisville Palace. Tickets are five bucks when purchased at the box office or it’s $42 for a season pass, a $2 discount on each show.
If you read Page One on a regular basis, you’re familiar with the catfighting between Daniel Mongiardo and Jack Conway. This isn’t about money, though Conway knew fully well that Mongiardo was promised cash. It’s about Daniel Mongiardo thinking he’s the anointed one, that he’s owed something, that everything should fall in his lap because he deserves it.
