Sam Sifton, national editor for the New York Times will be at Bellarmine on the 9th to discuss presidential campaign coverage. [Press Release]

We love us some Proof and 21C but let’s not pretend that proof is the best place to eat in all of Louisville. [Zagat]

Gregory O’Bryan, the guy accused of killing Andrew Compton, is due in court for a pre-trial hearing today at 8:45 A.M. [What Happened To Andrew?]

Wow. We thought the mainstream could do better than a whitewash when it came to Bud Shart… Schardein. But, uh, nope, obviously not. Wow wow wow. [C-J/AKN]

This is also how the story is being told on local television stations. Three sentences that mentions nothing of the scandal, nothing of that $200,000 bonus for being corrupt, nothing of the problems the city faces. Wow. [WAVE3]

Oh, wait, here’s a four sentence story about Schardein’s “retirement” from the Metro Sewer District. [WLKY]

Fortunately, there are a few media outlets in Louisville that won’t let the city forget what really went down with that scandal. [WFPL]

Do America’s infrastructure problems go beyond crumbling roads and bridges? [HuffPo]

On a scale of 1 to Greg Fischer on the day he gets to leave office, how excited are you that Time Warner has been given the go-ahead to purchase Insight Communications? [FOX41]

Publisher of A Kentucky Newspaper, Arnold Garson, is retiring on March 2. You knew this was just a temporary dumping ground for him. Did he even bother putting Kentucky plates on his vehicle? [Deep Newspaper Thoughts]

The head of Metro Parks got to drive drunk in a city vehicle and still kept his job. So why should we expect little issues involving metal detectors to be resolved with ease? That department is at least as screwed up as Metro Animal Services. [WHAS11]

There was a giant drug bust in Jack Conway’s backyard this week, right as he started talking again about how he’s cut off the pill supply from Florida. [Page One]

The Bourbon Women Association is apparently a thing and it has some sort of $25 event series coming up. It’s bourbon, so we obviously had to mention it. [Business First]

Greg Fischer said at his $20-per-ticket State of the City Address last week that Louisville is facing a nightmarish budget shortfall.

Metro Animal Services is a literal disaster zone.

Public Works is a mess.

Metro Parks is run by a guy who decided to drive drunk in a taxpayer-funded vehicle.

The head EMS guy is in Louisville so infrequently no one knows what he looks like.

But he has time to promote a meaningless online poll for a magazine:

Yep. Getting things done the Louisville way. Promoting a magazine poll on Twitter instead of solving the city’s budget crisis.

We’re all for Louisville pride but come on. Louisville is about as southern as Portland, Oregon. (Even though we have better food than all of those cities)

Contained a couple of his favorite recipes and lots of Pitino nostalgia.

But we noticed a glaring omission…

No recipe for skank on a plank!

If Jim King really had a solid working relationship with Greg Fischer, he’d be making his own comments. Tony Hyatt wouldn’t have to do it. And you know it. His actions speak louder than his words and Jim is no fan of Greg. [WFPL]

Greg Fischer is supposed to be on the radio at 1:00 today. What should they ask him? [Twitter]

America’s water and sewer systems are so screwed up that they’re going to kill us all, forever, with the poverty. [WaPo]

Oh, wait, sorry, we spoke too soon. Here’s another big water main break in Louisville. [WHAS11]

Remember when your paper was white washing Greg Fischer’s early history? Funny watching him “apologize” for yet another trash service ruh ro moment. And yet another moment of making excuses for not brining the streets. [Deep Fischer Thoughts]

THIS is why Louisville can have nice things. 100% why. Go read it and then enjoy it. [C-J/AKN]

Papaw Beshear is going to sit down with hospital officials to figure out a way for private companies to suck down more state tax dollars. [FOX41]

There is a restaurant on East Market called Taco Punk. You will probably go eat there. Because it has a super-hipster name. [Consuming Louisville]

What was that, again, about Democrats being tax and spend? Dan Seum is all about tolls on bridges and roads in Louisville. Somehow, these seems ripe for a joke about his daughter living in Indiana.
We post a story about ongoing problems at Louisville Metro Animal Services. Then tons of people chime in expressing similar experiences. But everything is puppies and rainbows for Greg Fischer. He solved all the LMAS problems with Sadia Reynolds and Justin Scally, amen, praise jeebus, the city is saved. Oh, what, this isn’t A Kentucky Newspaper? Sorry.
The editorial board wasn’t satisfied with helping Greg Fischer white wash his entire first year in office – and they can’t believe Ed Hart caught them with their pants down – so they referred to him as “Ken Hart” instead of Ed. Not a typo, not a mistake, he’s absolutely no stranger to them.

It’s Holiday Week or whatever so we’re going to be somewhat sporadic through the end of the year. There’ll still be a few good stories this week so be sure to check back during sober, non-bourbon periods of your days. Or, heck, even during your bourbon-filled binges. Happy Monday.

The New York Times knows what’s important and this Christmas it was focused on Kentucky bourbon. Though, don’t go ruining it with things like apple brandy or a cinnamon stick, wtf. Glad to see Maker’s 46 getting some mainstream attention. [NYT]

NuLu is getting some major love from an EPA grant and will receive a neighborhood design consultation. [Press Release]

A whopping 16 people have applied to take Robert White’s position as chief of the Louisville Metro Police Department. [FOX41]

The Associated Press piece about the applicants is apparently such a big deal that it was also published in the Herald-Leader. [H-L]

We’re still shocked that no one tried to shine green lasers at Santa Claus over the weekend. [C-J/AKN]

Merry Christmas! Someone got killed in Old Louisville over night. Great way for their family to round out the holidays. [WAVE3]

The Humana Foundation gave $200,000 to eight Louisville nonprofit organizations. Center for Women and Families, Coalition for the Homeless, ElderServe, The Healing Place, St. John Center, St. Vincent De Paul Society, Volunteers of America, Wellspring. [Business First]

Louisville on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day is a lot like Any Small Town, USA on Friday at 5:00 P.M. Everything is closed and the world nearly comes to an end. [Consuming Louisville]

Don’t forget that not everyone has it as good as you. Around 600 meals were served at the Salvation Army Center of Hope on Christmas. [WHAS11]

Jim Ramsey’s massive pay raise – from $478,939 to $600,000 – just his base pay – got comfortably hidden in a Friday afternoon news dump. [WLKY]

Our phones exploded all weekend with calls about the Metro Sewer District and Gerald Neal. We had no idea how widespread the corruption was or how badly people were pissed. [Page One]

Despite a petition from the president of the Louisville Metro Council, the city is still pursuing its lawsuit against the LIFE Institute. [WFPL]

The truth about the Keystone XL pipeline? Doesn’t look like the McConnell-Republican claim of jobs is based in reality. [HuffPo]

This is truly the American way. Presiding over and knowing about the theft of millions of millions of tax dollars and getting rewarded with bonuses and raises worth millions.
Occupy Louisville is pushing a discussion on homelessness. It’s fitting, since Greg Fischer doesn’t see it fit to allow even those without homes to sleep in tents in the dead of winter.
Aww, how sad. Greater Clark County Schools won’t renew Stephen Daeschner’s contract. The man who wreaked havoc in Louisville won’t get his sweet payday after all.
Seems like there are a lot of commonalities between Louisville’s Metro Sewer District and the Kentucky Retirement Systems. And a whole lot of corrupt financial shenanigans.
Robert White’s going away party brought out plenty of memories and emotion. All of the people there were holding back their true feelings, though.
It’s a real shame Louisville doesn’t have a light rail plan that could bring the city into at least the 20th Century. Here’s a look at what could have been. [Broken Sidewalk]

Kentucky really does need to consider a tax-free weekend each year for school and educational-related purchases. It’d be a boon for Kentucky businesses and a much-needed bit of relief for the average taxpayer.
Will Greg Fischer’s second “virtual town hall” on the Twitter and Fakebook be as much of a failure as his first? How quickly people forget. [WFPL]

Lexington is unhappy, to say the least, about a potential move of mail processing to Louisville. [H-L]

Yes, that’s right, Sexytime Herman Cain’s latest alleged shenanigans started in Louisville. A little too close to home for the crazy, folks. [Faux News]

Lots of misinformation is being spread about a proposed meth registry and Brent Yonts is making sure you don’t get snowed. [Page One]

Louisville: When are we going to get our shiz together and stop allowing young people to kill each other? [FOX41]

The only Queenie’s we know is the former Queenie’s Pizza on South Fourth Street. Which is now Windy City? Queenie’s was way more gay, for obvious reasons. [Consuming Louisville]

Kerry Johnson finally got indicted for stealing $100,000+ from the University of Louisville. This is, what, the millionth time this has happened at UofL and Jim Ramsey still hasn’t been held responsible? [WAVE3]

John Veitch finally got canned for failing to handle the Life at Ten situation better. Funny how that works. No one would have cared if animal advocates hadn’t raised concern. [Business First]

Will this finally be the end of busing? Teddy Gordon filed a motion with the Kentucky Supreme Court not to hear Jefferson County Public Schools’ objection to a recent appeal. [WHAS11]

John Schnatter is apparently now a “Hometown Hero” and his face will be gigantic and plastered on the side of a building downtown. [WLKY & Louisville Heroes]

Greg Fischer’s Metro Animal Services is a literal disaster. BOTH Gilles Meloch and Wayne Zelinsky were more open than these folks. Even the crazy dog show people will back me up on that front. But you’ll never get that sense from the mainstream that LMAS is a big deal and the issues will be completely ignored when the time for re-election nears. [The 'Ville Voice]
