Louisville makes this list of the most religious cities in America. Northern Kentucky also makes the list, kinda. [HuffPo]

Metro police are back at the scene of the shootout that left three people dead and three others wounded. Extra officers are on patrol in the area this weekend. And several long-time neighbors were also out, still in shock about what happened on Thursday.
I’ll Have Another overtook Bodemeister, blazing down the stretch to win the Preakness in the final strides Saturday and keep alive his hopes of winning the Triple Crown. Will this horsey go all the way?
Why is anyone pretending Tom Wine isn’t going to be the next Commonwealth’s Attorney? Goodness gracious. And Carol Cobb’s television commercials – what the hell? It was her decision to run with them and that lone says to us she’s not CA material.
Louisville has decided that it’s not enough to kill people who walk. The city has now started killing people in wheelchairs. [WAVE3]

While a youth club is an absolutely wonderful thing? It’s not going to do much to curb violence in Louisville. [C-J/AKN]

Really, Louisville? Another shooting is necessary? Because that solves all of our problems. [WLKY]

Donors to Hal Rogers (shocker!) got a sweet deal from the government to sell them $6.5 million worth of $17,000 drip pans. All thanks to Rogers’ fancy earmarks.

We’re not going to shut up about you giving to the Red Cross for tornado relief efforts. This will take a long time. [Click Here To Give]

If Kentucky’s State House can donate more than $25,000 for disaster relief efforts? Surely you can afford a dollar. [WLEX18]

In case you need a reminder about WHY the corrupt shenanigans go on in Frankfort with organizations like Kentucky Retirement Systems? It’s because even the most beloved Democrats are capable of turning a blind eye, making excuses and protecting their friends. [Page One Here & Here]

Here’s what John Yarmuth had to say yesterday about the $8.4 million to Kentucky through the School Improvement Grants program: “It is very encouraging that the federal government continues to support innovative education reforms in Kentucky,” Yarmuth said. “This grant will help Jefferson County schools and others throughout the state build upon the progress they have already made, so that more students have the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.” [Press Release]

Isn’t this just what Louisville needs? Another consultant advising Greg Fischer about the utility merger options? That’ll solve this city’s problems for sure. [C-J/AKN]

Metro Council is considering an ordinance that could curb illegal scrap metal sales. [FOX41]

Looks like Greg Stumbo and Paul Patton were just cold making things up. Making the University of Pikeville a public school would not help significantly improve the number of Eastern Kentucky students with college degrees, according to a study on the issue released Thursday. [H-L]

The neighborhood schools bill barely passed a State Senate committee and is – like we’ve been telling you – likely dead in the water. [WAVE3]

Greyhound Express is bringing premium non-stop bus service to Louisville. This could be a good thing for travelers who don’t want to drive to Nashville or Cincinnasti. [Business First]

Tell us if you’ve heard this story before. A doctor meets someone in a bar and prescribes her medication she doesn’t need. [WHAS11]

Louisville’s unemployment rate has risen. Because our local metro economy is absolutely puppies and rainbows. Compassionate City. Possibility City. Sense of Place. Urban Core. Vibrance. Entrepreneurial Spirit. HEAD – DESK. [WFPL]

It’s been something like seven years since two men were indicted on murder and racketeering charges and they still await trial. [WLKY]

Because it’s Frankfort, an illegal cockfighting ring continues to be ignored. A state government employee running half the operation is given the green light.
The new LMPD chief will be sworn in on Monday. How excited are you for this? [Deep LMPD Thoughts]

Hahaha! Tolls? They’re going to last forever. Literally. Even after the bridges are paid off. So the money can go in a “maintenance fund” or whatever.
What was that, again, about the Legislative Ethics Commission not being under the direct control of the good old boys in Frankfort? [John Cheves]

Bob Gunnell needs to focus on paying back the $400,000 or whatever he stiffed the IRS for. Maybe focus on his bankruptcy and walking out on Peritus – which is fighting to get what it’s owed from him, apparently – before he tries to keep it up with this bit of killing sidewalks on Brownsboro Road. And opponents declined to go to the forum last week not because the project is moving forward but because Bob got his ass handed to him and he has egg all over his face. [FOX41]

Oh, look, it’s Claudia Coffey doing a story about the Brownsboro Road sidewalk. Wouldn’t it be a good idea for her to disclose the fact that she knows Bob Gunnell personally when doing a slanted story like this? I ran for Attorney General because I believe it is a position in which a person can truly make a difference for Kentucky families. The work being done by this office is touching lives, young and old, in every corner of the Commonwealth. I’d like to share with you some of our many accomplishments from the past year.

Elder Abuse & Neglect
Reorganized Office of Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Control to devote additional investigators to elder abuse and neglect cases.

Charged 21 individuals or entities relating to abuse and neglect of vulnerable adults in 2010, bringing the total number of charges to 55 since I took office.

Combating Medicaid Fraud
Increased Medicaid recoveries by more than 600% since 2008 when I took office.

Awarded or recovered more than $20.3 million in 2010, bringing our total recoveries since I took office in 2008 to more than $141 million for the Kentucky Medicaid program and taxpayers.

You know how just over a year ago Jim King was running for mayor and proposing the restoration of LMPD’s gang squad/street crimes unit?

At a press conference in the West End this morning, Jim King – part of his mayoral campaign – will announce plans to restore LMPD’s gang unit, revitalize the street crimes unit and identify more funding for the Metro Narcotics Unit. Joining him at the presser will be former FOP President David James, community activist Mattie Jones, Councilman George Unseld, et al.

Yeah. A Kentucky Newspaper and everyone under the sun was on the attack, claiming the idea was ignorant and short-sighted. Then, bam, it front page yesterday:

We couldn’t believe our eyes. Particularly because the paper’s editorial board used that very issue as a springboard for calling on King to exit the mayoral race.

And check this from WDRB:

“It creates stress,” he says, “but it’s what I would call good stress.” Chief White believes the stress and changes ultimately help reduce violent crime — but how? He says, “Because now everybody has to raise…their level of responsibility, and the level of aggressiveness because they don’t want to fail.”

Despite the decrease in violent crime, Chief White admits they have seen an increase in another areas such as home and car break-ins: “This year, we’re going to probably have a 9 to 10 percent increase in property crimes.” But the chief says the changes will help address that increase.

What was that, again, about the idea being a bad one a year ago? I mean, now that the new crew coming in is doing exactly what they criticized.

Talk about coming full circle.

My thoughts: No way, no how. How is dying – taking the easy way out – punishment for such a horrible crime?

Why shouldn’t this guy – if guilty and convicted – be forced to live his entire life tortured with the reality of what he’s done?

I get that some people think the death penalty is just cruel. I don’t think it’s cruel enough.

Anyone else on this same page?

Interesting and terrific news came out of Winchester/Clark County, Kentucky yesterday. The EKPC coal-fired power plant will not be built. [Page One]

U.S. Ambassador to Sweeden Matthew Barzun has the right idea on energy. It makes no sense to wait. [Twitter]

This lady nearly bit off a woman’s finger? Shoo! And I thought sword guy from a couple months ago was insane. [WHAS11]

Passport CEO Larry Cook is stepping down from his job. The spending scandal really shook the Medicaid ground, it seems. [Bluegrass Politics]

Here’s what Governor Steve Beshear had to say: “While a new interim CEO is important, it is also essential to have a top to bottom change in management and a total reorganization in the governing structure of Passport.” [Press Release]

It may be an accident, but it seems like there are more and more of these cyclist accidents in Louisville these days. Especially ones involving death. Sure, it’s because of increased cycling. But it seems a bit too frequent for comfort. [FOX 41]

Because idiots like this continue to hit cyclists and haul ass away from the scene. How can you hit someone on a bike and then just drive away? [WFPL]

It burns! Make it stop! Prosecutors in the Karen Sypher – Rick Pitino sexytime scandal don’t want the judge in the trial to be disqualified. This story is apparently never going to end.
