Here’s what police can’t tell you about this case: they believe Gregory Holt’s murder was in retaliation for an attempted murder the previous evening – by his mother. And drugs are allegedly involved. A lot of drugs. Seems the prosecutor’s office has threatened some officers for trying to conduct a deeper investigation, so, uh, it’s time to call the CA out. Mainstreamers need to a dig a bit more deeply for the real story. [FOX41]

There’s a lot of talk in the local press about ending child abuse. But don’t forget one of the biggest childhood problems – hunger! Donate to Dare to Care. [Click Here]

How badly will the Time Warner transition from Insight hurt? Will lubrication be necessary for customers in Louisville? [H-L]

HAHAHA, have you seen this latest mess in the First District Metro Councilcritter race? It is hilarious. [WFPL]

Hall of Fame trainer D.
What exactly is the point of destroying this reporter’s cell phone if all data is allowed to be retrieved beforehand? Why not just give it back to him? What a waste of time and taxpayer dollars in Indiana. [C-J/AKN]

Remember Christina Gilkey? She’s the school board president in Clark County (Indianner) and is involved in the selection of the next failed superintendent (let’s get real, here). She was one of the few honest folks there in 2009 and one of the people who tried to do the right thing.
The amount of unnecessary hype in this story is so thick you’ll gag. Property reassessment notices went out a few weeks ago for metro Louisville, but the rate of those reassessments is the lowest it’s been in years.

It’s a real shame Churchill Downs has decided to associate its name with something called the Bluegrass Film Experience.

Despite having a published policy against spam press releases, some “wrestler” (seriously) named Roni continues to send us messages. The latest was something soliciting money in the form of advertising.

$50 Your company name will receive a “special thanks” in the DVD credits.

$100 Your company logo and website will be shown in the “special thanks” credits of the DVD.

$150 Your company will be listed as an official sponsor on our website and your logo will appear in the DVD insert as well as a in the “special thanks” credits of the DVD. (Limit 12)

$250 Your company will receive a producer credit on the DVD and your logo will be shown on the big screen before every group viewing (8 viewings in all) as well as being listed as a sponsor on our website.

$500 Your company logo will appear on the back of the DVD cover as well as appearing in the DVD credits as “producer”. Your logo will also be shown on the big screen before every group viewing and appear on our website as one of the four co-sponsors. (Limit 4)

$1000 Your company logo will appear on the backdrop in the photo op area, where celebrities will be posing with fans as well as appear in the DVD credits as “associate producer”, be shown on the big screen before every group viewing and appear on our website as one of the three MAIN sponsors. (Limit 3)

$2000 Your company logo will appear on the outside of the film viewing/celebrity tent as well as on the photo op area backdrop, in the DVD credits as “executive producer”, shown on the big screen before every group viewing and appear on our website and in advertisement as one of the two TOP sponsors. (Limit 2)

So we responded:

Nope. Not a fan of folks spamming with pre-written crap like this and have a published policy against it. Not to mention that you’re asking for money. Ha.

Please immediately remove us from your distribution list.

Which would make sense, right? Folks in the entertainment or PR world would grasp the importance of knowing and understanding their audience, right? Nah, “Roni” responded by calling us a “douche.” Which you can call us if you’re giving us money but not when asking for it.

The entity isn’t registered with the Kentucky Secretary of State and its affiliate entity, Bluegrass Art Experience, isn’t either. That’s despite giving the impression on their websites that they’re non-profit and give funds to charity.

So, way to go, Churchill Downs. You threaten longtime local businesses with legal action for daring mention “Derby” in their annual events. But willingly allow “Churchill Downs” to be used by people spreading nasty ass remarks among the press while asking for money under the guise of supporting charity. During your Memorial Day $100,000 handicap race, no less.

We’re a fan and supporter of the arts in Louisville and Kentucky. But hypocrisy, less than transparent charitable practices and shitty attitudes aren’t the way to conduct business in this town. Louisville has manners, respect and decency. Churchill Downs ought to start acting like it.

Possibility City!

All the folks who had nothing else to write about yesterday freaked out over John Yarmuth sending a letter to Mitch McConnell. It’s like everyone quickly forgets that Mitch McConnell has been lying about health care reform for more than two years. John is just now feeling safe enough to speak up a little bit. He’s still so nervous about it, in fact, that both his government staff and campaign staff selectively shared the letter with those they felt were friendly. So let’s quit with the, “Oh, John is so brave” bullshiz. He’s a solid congressman but this isn’t some big thing.
Woah, it’s almost shocking that a man was pulled from the Ohio River and he wasn’t dead. Because it seems like there’s a new body pulled from the river every five seconds.
Let’s get this straight: a group of people involving Christopher 2X and Greg Fischer want to increase the public’s trust in the police department. But they held a closed-door meeting with police, in which no press were allowed, and only shared photos after the event? Really? [FOX41]

Dear Young Republicans: you should probably never, ever apologize for Greg Fischer. [Curt Morrison]

Now that Stephen Daeschner is gone – again – Greater Clark County Schools is trying to find a new superintendent. Wonder if they’ll try Sheldon Berman next?
Now that corporations have begun to cut ties with ALEC, it’s time to demand that legislators do the same. Legislators like Denise Harper Angel – who is furiously trying to distance herself without effectively doing so.
You can’t even have a kid in Louisville these days without it getting shot. It’s a shame we can’t say that this is a first. [WLKY]

It’s never a good day when a body is recovered from the Ohio River. We can only hope the city’s future and progress in general are recovered from the river sometime soon. [WAVE3]

In case you were wondering why it’s almost laughable that Jim King caved on throwing cash at the Kentucky Retirement Systems? Here’s the latest on the corruption. [Page One]

President Barack Obama’s state re-election campaign headquarters opened in Louisville this weekend. Let’s just say a LOT fewer people showed up this year than in 2008.
Sorry, Bill Bissett, there is no “balanced perspective” on coal here. Primarily because you’re paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to shill for coal, ignore facts and reality and act as if all media are out to get you. Nice that you didn’t disclose that a PR agency is on retainer to help you write pieces like this. [H-L]

Reading puppies & rainbows stories like this about the circus are precisely why so many people roll their eyes at the local paper. They just can’t be bothered with discussing the serious problems associated with it.
