Yesterday former Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo blasted the nasty redistricting process in Kentucky. He hit Steve Beshear, praised Kathy Stein and pointed out the shenanigans with Alice Forgy Kerr.
Raise your head if you think Frankfort will do the right thing when it comes to halting executions. [WHAS11]

Oh snap! Looks like Robert White is having a rough go at it in the big city of Denver. Check out the shenanigans going down involving an anonymous letter. [Denver Post]

If you aren’t paying attention to the problems your first responders face in Louisville, you’re going to end up with a problem on your hands some day. There’s no reason EMS shouldn’t be treated like LMPD and Fire. All are equally important and necessary for life to function. [FOX41]

Quick, let’s pretend the Energy and Environment Cabinet cares about Earth Day! [Click the Clicky]

We used to love Dawne Gee back when she looked like a 20-something on the teevee. But now that she has turned the corner to calmness and comes across as the young meemaw (we said young!) everyone wants in their life, she’s way more entertaining. You know you love seeing her pass that cash. [WAVE3]

When Jerry Abramson says small businesses should have a large role in tax reform in Kentucky? He means gigantic businesses that employ thousands and operate outside the state. [Business First]

Remember when your attorney general said he was fighting hard against gas price corruption during his campaign? Haha, right, about that. [WLKY]

Now University of Louisville folks like Jimbo Ramsey say they welcome the indigent care fund audit. Here’s hoping Adam Edelen’s ties to everyone there won’t cloud his judgement. No, of course they won’t cloud the judgment of his hundreds of auditors but that’s just something one has to question early in a new auditor’s term. [WFPL]

Did you see Greg Fischer asking his most trusted source – Facebook – for advice on how to do the most basic parts of his job yesterday? [The 'Ville Voice]

In what world is it “controversial” to make Brownsboro Road a three-laner with SIDEWALKS? Are people crazy in this town or what?

A controversial plan to make Brownsboro Road three lanes through part of Clifton and Clifton Heights and add a sidewalk to improve safety on the north side across from Kroger will be among the topics discussed at a Metro Council District 9 Community Forum Wednesday night.

The forum, held by Metro Council member Tina Ward-Pugh, will give participants a chance to express opinions and concerns about the road project and other issues.

Controversial. Ha.

Really – click here to read the entire thing and show up at that meeting tonight. It’s at 6:00 P.M. in the auditorium of the Kentucky School for the Blind at 1867 Frankfort Avenue.

Ward-Pugh said in a letter dated Tuesday to Kroger shopping center owner Jim Dahlem that the goal is to begin the project after the Sherman Minton Bridge reopens, which is expected in March. Under the proposed project, Brownsboro Road would have two driving lanes and a middle turning lane.

Bob Gunnell, a public relations spokesman for Brownsboro Road Preservation Alliance, returned a call to Dahlem seeking comment and said Dahlem is a member of the group. Gunnell said the group is concerned because the project would mean “less flow” of traffic on Brownsboro and that it’s something that people and employers around the city should be concerned about because the road is a major thoroughfare.

Bob Gunnell probably ought to focus on making sure the Mulloy Brothers don’t take him to the cleaners for the shenanigans he’s pulled with Peritus that haven’t yet been written about. He’s lucky they’re allowing him to violate his non-compete.

The only thing that’s slowing traffic on lower Brownsboro is the inability of residents to walk and be mobile without a gas guzzler. Increased foot traffic is good for business and neighborhoods. And, come on, if they think the only thing killing business at Dirty Kroger is the traffic flow? Haha, well, they ought to try shopping there on occasion.

Really – if you give a flip about Louisville and its neighborhoods? Show up. Support Tina Ward-Pugh’s effort. Don’t allow these recycled hacks to play pat-a-cake with your city’s healthy future.

Louisville is about to see a cut in federal block grant funding. So you can bet at least a dozen more Fischer pals will be hired at $100K+ per year.
Is Janie Miller the dumbest person in state government? Here’s her statement from last night: “The Cabinet is pleased that Judge Shepherd has agreed that the identity of innocent victims can remain confidential as the Cabinet releases its records of child fatalities and near fatalities cases. The Judge recognized that the public’s interest in determining whether the Cabinet did its job is not compromised by respecting the confidentiality of those children who survived grievous injury and those citizens who come forward to report abuse or neglect. The Cabinet is currently weighing its options on the Judge’s award of attorney fees and penalties and other issues, but certainly with today’s ruling, it is clear that when weighed against the Cabinet’s efforts to protect children from unwarranted invasions of their privacy, it was definitely well worth the price.” Daniel Mongiardo is right – craaaazy. Still making excuses for doing a horrible job. [Press Release]

The Kentucky Retirement Systems nightmare rages on while Frankfort ignores it 100%. Don’t forget that Greg Fischer’s top guy is part of the mess there.
Papaw Governor Steve Beshear has a transportation plan that stresses widening I-65 and the bridges project. Will either actually see the light of day?
Everyone we speak to on Metro Council and in Metro Government says Greg Fischer is talking out of his butt about cuts being necessary to balance the budget. What’s necessary is to stop flushing money down the toilet on unnecessary salaries, to stop throwing money at problems that can be resolved without it and to just generally manage.
Wait for it, wait for it. Now Jim Ramsey is calling for a review of the Quality and Charity Care Trust (indigent care board) at the University of Louisville.

Here’s what Greg Fischer says about ongoing campaign contributions:

Another Fischer contributor was Ed Hart, who gave $1,000 on Jan. 20. Hart is the chief executive for Kentucky Kingdom, which at the time was in the midst of negotiating a $300,000 annual contribution to help reopen the amusement park at the Kentucky Exposition Center.

-SNIP-

He said the Babbage and Hart contributions “should be exhibit A and B.”

“If anybody thinks they’re going to get a favor from me for a contribution, they are sorely misguided,” Fischer said. “I’m going to do what’s right for the citizens, and it doesn’t matter who gives me money.”

Here’s reality:

The Fischer crew pulled a huge bait-and-switch with donors. Here’s a project for you: Take a look at Fischer’s inauguration committee and inauguration sponsors/donors. Cross reference that list – the folks who were solicited for contributions by Tommy Elliot and others for Fischer’s inaugural committee – with Fischer’s actual mayoral campaign account reporting with the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance and look what you get.

That’s right – a bunch of people who were told they were contributing to Fischer’s Inauguration. Only to have their contribution used to pay down his campaign debt.

I’ve spoken with several on the list to confirm they contributed to Fischer’s Inauguration but not his campaign. They’ve got emails to back it up. And in at least three instances, the inauguration committee called donors after checks had been received to tell them to send another, separate check (voiding their original checks) directly to the Fischer Campaign to be used for inauguration expenses. How fis(c)hy is that? The staff never told donors the new checks wouldn’t be used for the inauguration.

I believe the Fischer folks knew what they were doing from the get go. They raised all they’d need for the inauguration and then converted funds to help retire Greg’s campaign debt. And it seems that the Fischer Administration is attempting to spin this as business leaders thinking they’d curry favor all so Greg can claim it’s just not happening. And we all know that’s not the case.

Somebody has a lot of explaining to do. Because I smell a KREF problem and grounds for an investigation.
