It’s always nice to see Kentucky artists getting lots of national recognition. So take a look at these ten Kentucky bands you should listen to now. [Paste Magazine]

Yesterday, LG&E announced the retirement of Chip Keeling as Vice President of Communications. His replacement will be Chris Whelan. Guess that little incident turned out to be a problem. [Press Release]

Let’s see how East End White Fear impacts the Brownsboro Road sidewalk project. Yes, East End White Fear. [FOX41]

Here’s your friend, Jim Peden, once again trying to mess with housing code. First, he didn’t want to be around poor people. Now? He doesn’t want Louisville to grow. [C-J/AKN]

John Yarmuth doesn’t hate the gays: “As a strong supporter of marriage equality, I am proud that President Obama has joined the millions of Americans committed to equal rights and fairness for all our citizens,” Yarmuth said. “This is a historic day for loving and committed gay and lesbian couples and their families across our country.” [Press Release]

You can’t even send your kids to school in Fern Creek these days without gun fears. [WAVE3]

Even Clear Channel’s Mandy Connell knows the gays aren’t second-class citizens. [Twitter]

Other media outlets should sack up and point out that Wes Jackson is clueless when it comes to integrity and standards of, you know, other media outlets. WFPL’s folks did so on Twitter but didn’t on their own site. [WFPL]

Here’s a solid look at Sarah Lynn Cunningham, the non-establishment candidate who has spent her entire life fighting against corruption. Her role as MSD whistleblower is still major. [CN|2]

Be honest. Did you roll your eyes a little bit when you learned Jim Host had resigned as chairman of the arena authority? [C-J/AKN]

Greg Fischer is really mad at people who camp out and complain about him. So he’s going to “ban” them. Because his time couldn’t be better spent focusing on the city’s actual needs. [WFPL]

A grand jury indicted three men Wednesday on murder and other felony charges in the weekend death of a Frankfort man, Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton said. [H-L]

Louisville’s tourist economy would be much more healthy if it focused on the rest of the state instead of just Louisville. You wouldn’t believe how impossible it’s been to get places like the Science Center and Belle of Louisville to realize there are people who live in the rest of the state with lots of cash and no idea Louisville exists. [Business First]

The Cabinet for Health and Family Services and Steve Beshear’s crew are still withholding child-abuse death records. So much for promised transparency. [H-L]

How can you know there’s a loaded gun within reach of a three-year-old and leave it available for them to play with? And how stupid do you feel when that child kills its 18-month-old sibling?
Cannons Lane was shut down in both directions at I-64 Sunday evening after shots were fired at an officer during a police pursuit. You can’t even go to St. Matthews these days without getting shot.
This guy in Indiana has felony convictions for lying about his voter registration. Meanwhile, Democrats in Frankfort like Ruth Ann Palumbo aren’t even questioned about their illegal registrations.
The Kentucky Derby’s annual running on the first Saturday in May provides a lesson, of sorts, in economics. [Business First]

WHEN WILL THE KILLING STOP? This is out-of-control crazy. Come on, Louisville, stop killing each other. [WLKY]

Sorry, Brooks Wicker, John Yarmuth doesn’t need to waste his time debating you because you’re not a serious candidate. That homophobic hatemonger who ran against him had more to offer last year.
Some sort of fun Jesus thing happened at the Grease Bucket Arena because Jesus and such so traffic sucked. Maybe we should turn that joint into a mega church so it can finally turn a profit?
Do you need a pee-alert worthy story to read this morning? Check out this piece by a woman offering suggestions of what to do in Louisville during March Madness. It includes such highlights as the “pedestrian mall” called Fourth Street Live and Louisville Mega Cavern. Because those are obviously the most terrific things Louisville has to offer. [H-L]

The corrupt folks running Kentucky Retirement Systems (translation: Greg Fischer’s top guy, Tommy E) got another, official free pass from Jack Conway. [Page One]

Do your eyes roll back in your head when Greg Fischer trots something that someone else has done out to take credit for himself? Just like he’s doing with this asthma study? [C-J/AKN]

A few days ago we rolled our eyes over Greg Fischer snubbing a Portland community meeting because he was on “vacation.” Here’s betting he won’t miss his meeting with the Frankfort Avenue Business Association, though, because it involves people with money.
Why anyone ever believed Steve Beshear and Jim Host weren’t out to “get” Harold Workman is beyond us. He’s essentially admitting it on video now.

As every other news outlet in the state has told you, the guy Harold Workman fired for screwing around at the Grease Bucket Arena in Louisville has been hired by the University of Louisville.

But here’s the entire press release from Steve Beshear/Jim Host/Ron Carmicle/Larry Hayes (Hi, Larry! Sorry you decided not to take that sweet gig after we called you out) sent via Gil Lawson:

Fair Board Chairman Makes Announcement Concerning KFC Yum! Center and NCAA Tournament

Editor’s Note: This release is being sent on behalf of Ron Carmicle, chairman of the Kentucky State Fair Board. Attached is a letter from Mr. Carmicle to Harold Workman, president and CEO of the Fair Board

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 29, 2012) – Kentucky Fair Board Chair Ron Carmicle announced today that the University of Louisville will hire former KFC Yum! Center general manager Ted Nicholson on a temporary basis to ensure the success of the upcoming NCAA basketball tournament games to be held at the KFC Yum! Center next month.

“Ted’s dismissal from the Fair Board caused significant concern from the University of Louisville and the NCAA, as Ted had worked with the NCAA for the last two years to plan the upcoming men’s basketball tournament games at the KFC Yum! Center,” said Carmicle. “I’m pleased that UofL has found a position for Ted that will allow him to continue that work and ensure the success of this enormous event.”

The Board had asked Fair Board president Harold Workman to reinstate Nicholson after he was fired abruptly and without explanation Monday. Workman declined to take action.

In a letter to Workman, Carmicle instructed Workman to “fully cooperate with Mr. Nicholson and others to guarantee the success of the NCAA tournament.” The letter went on to state that Workman’s action to fire Nicholson would be part of the board’s upcoming discussions about Workman’s job performance.

“This is an acceptable resolution to an unfortunate and ill-timed personnel action,” said Governor Steve Beshear. “According to the NCAA, KFC Yum! Center and the University of Louisville, Ted Nicholson is a critical lynchpin for this upcoming tournament. I appreciate Ron Carmicle’s leadership not only in helping make this solution possible, but also his planning for the future of the Fair Board.”

Arena Authority Chair Jim Host applauded the move, saying that Nicholson’s hire maintains stability and leadership for the upcoming event. “This is our city’s first opportunity to host the NCAA men’s basketball tournament in our beautiful new arena, and it just makes good sense to have the same management team in place that has been there since day one,” said Host. “It creates a comfort and a confidence for the organizers, and I’m pleased that Ted will continue to be involved in this event to make sure that tens of thousands of basketball fans have the experience they deserve.”

“The University of Louisville is happy to help maintain continuity for the management of the NCAA tournament as we head into the final days of preparation for this huge showcase for our arena and our city,” said UofL Athletics Director Tom Jurich. “Ted has done an excellent job shepherding this event so far, and we look forward to continuing to work with him, the Fair Board, and the Arena Authority.”

That’s what a flustercuck the mess has turned into.

We all know that the A Kentucky Newspaper is slowly melting away in a bowl of old toilet water. Stenography just isn’t profitable these days. But take a look at this graph to see how print advertising has died along with all the other shenanigans.
Swearing in new police officers for LMPD is part of the reason Louisville can have nice things. [C-J/AKN]

Additional JCPS scandal thoughts: On a scale of 1 to Greg Fischer continuing to pretend he invented an ice machine (patent documentation and the actual inventor, of course, reveal that he was merely in the same room as three holes were drilled in metal plate), how hard will the JCTA and the editorial board try to turn this into a magical puppies and rainbows moment for Louisville?
LMPD was a no-show last night at a meeting with Occupy Louisville. The excuse is that there’s ongoing litigation. LMPD folks tell us Greg Fischer’s office made that decision. [Deep Louisville Failures]
