Consider Helping Me Make A Difference

Outside of the mainstream, who has gone to bat over the last decade for people unable to find justice?

Who started the original University of Louisville scandal reporting and helped send Robert Felner to prison? Hint: That person put so much pressure on media outlets to cover education-related corruption that statewide newspapers started moving their star political reporters to ed spots – like Ryan Alessi at the Herald-Leader.

Got Steve Henry convicted?

Broke dozens of Louisville Metro Animal Services scandals resulting in numerous firings and lawsuits?

Reported on animal abuse and torture so thoroughly that REPUBLICANS were forced to take action in Louisville to create whistleblower protection laws?

Was the original Kentucky Retirement Systems scandal(s) screamer ten years ago?

Spent nearly five years reporting on one of the most massive education-related scandals in Kentucky (Joshua Powell – Montgomery County Schools), resulting in myriad lawsuits, millions in payouts, more than fifty firings and state and federal government investigations and sanctions?

Ousted Commissioner of Education Terry Holliday?

Covered so many Jefferson County Public Schools nightmares that everyone has lost count?

Held Jack Conway accountable during the 2010 U.S. Senate race despite non-stop Democratic Party backlash?

Broke countless stories about Rand Paul that garnered national and international coverage?

Broke story after story about Republican and Democratic candidates and elected officials with no consideration of their partisanship or whether they were friends/acquaintances?

Shook the Legislative Research Commission and Democratic and Republican leadership to their knees by publishing scandalous deposition testimony? (Legislators went to court to try to silence the reporting and failed. Miserably.)

And produced hundreds of other major stories?

Spoiler alert: it was me.

Did it all while asking for nothing in return. For a decade. 8-10 stories per day. Every day. More than 23,000 of them on Page One and The ‘Ville Voice. Love me or hate me, it was me. I’ve never started what I couldn’t finish and I’ve always gotten justice for people in need. I’ve pissed off and upset everyone from Matt Bevin to to my own mother (rest in peace) for shining sunlight on what needed to be exposed.

My body of work speaks for itself. That’s not just an opinion – you’re free to dig in to see for yourself.

While I no can longer physically produce hundreds of stories per month, I’m still working on long-term projects and digging in deep. My research is sometimes shared with other media outlets and has contributed to several major stories so far in 2017. When I discover something that I cannot ethically reveal myself, it gets tossed to countless reporters around the state.

Whether I’m focusing on Matt Bevin, uncovering shenanigans within a government agency or reporting on school district activity in order to stop corruption and abuses of power, I give it my all and provide the voiceless with an opportunity to be heard by the powerful. I get results. I’d like to continue those efforts here. Long-term, deep research efforts. It’s important in the an age of mainstream media abandoning efforts like this. It’s crucial when there are maybe two reporters at television stations in Kentucky with anything resembling historical knowledge of the Commonwealth or a working relationship with the key players in Frankfort.

Please consider supporting me in those efforts:

Your support doesn’t go to me. But it does go to help cover hosting costs, the thousands upon thousands per year in open record requests and government document pulls and to help sources in poorer Kentucky counties communicate safely and securely with people like me.

Sadiqa Reynolds Is A Sad Distraction

If there’s one person in Louisville who would know what a distraction is, it’s Sadiqa Reynolds.

While she’s probably right to question the local FOP leadership, her latest remarks fall remarkably empty and ridiculously out-of-touch:

Sadiqa Reynolds, president of the Louisville Urban League, said Thursday morning that she had heard “rumblings” that people’s confidence in Conrad was lacking, so she also wasn’t surprised. While she acknowledged the vote is troubling, she said the timing feels like a distraction to a bigger issue – a spike in violent crime.

“It seems like (the department) can’t be dually focused,” she said. “It just really feels like a distraction to me and a distraction to the community. … I’m concerned.”

Reynolds urged officers to stay focused on making the community safer and likened the situation to a presidential election, as some people will be happy and others won’t. She called on the officers to help get Louisville “back on track.”

“There are too many homicides. You can’t have a house divided,” she said. Conrad “is the leader and, until he is not, he has our support.”

In other words, Sadiqa is saying to blindly trust the wealthy white men in power… while dismissing the far less wealthy men and women, many of the people of color, daring criticize their wealthy, disconnected bosses. The epitome of whitewashing.

The woman is a walking distraction. A train wreck of epic proportions. One need only look at her time serving under Greg Fischer or her testimony before the Metro Council to know she’s a disaster.

It’s sad that she’s tainting the Louisville Urban League with her ridiculous bullshit, coverups, scandals and irresponsibility. There are countless people in this great city who could outperform her in their sleep.

Yes, I realize some will be offended that a gay white guy is criticizing an African American woman but I am well-acquainted with white, cis-gendered male privilege. Race and gender do not negate the level of bullshit spread around by Sadiqa. Or maybe I mean dog shit… since some of her biggest scandals involved coverups of animal torture and abuse at Louisville Metro Animal Services that would have landed anyone else in jail or at the very least facing charges. (More on Sadiqa here)

Remember when Metro Council had to put new whistleblower laws on the books after I uncovered Sadiqa’s torture/coverup/neglect/abuse nightmare?

Or when she went after a young woman of color for daring question her? Remember the recorded telephone call where Sadiqa told the young woman she “sounded clean”?

I can’t sit on my hands and watch her piss things away.

Louisville deserves better than this wet blanket, never question authority mindset.

The Worst Thing On Earth, Probably

From A Kentucky Newspaper:

Dr. George Nichols, a season-ticket holder who was formerly Kentucky’s chief medical examiner, said: “There was many inappropriate things that (former President James) Ramsey did. But to punish the basketball program proactively was a wise decision.

“It is better to spank yourself before somebody else does, but it won’t hurt as much.”

He said the allegations don’t answer the questions of where McGee got the money to entertain recruits and prospects, and university officials deflected questions from reporters about that. But given the benefits totaled only an averaged about $1,350 a year, McGee could have afforded that from his own salary, which exceeded $100,000 annually by the time he left Louisville.

Another One Bites It: Another LMAS Director Has Been “Resigned”

Louisville Metro Animal Services director Jessica Jo Montgomery has been fired. Err… “resigned.”

What was that, again, about me being wrong? Remember when I was accused of slut-shaming her for pointing out that her only real professional experience was working as a sexy model? After years and years of sexual harassment lawsuits and scandals at that agency? Yeah. A real train wreck.

This one drove her city vehicle after drinking and the mayor’s office had to quietly take that away. And remember the euthanasia issue?

Most recently, she’s alleged to have stolen/taken home without paying for it/whatever you want to call it a dog house meant for auction to raise funds for LMAS.

When I filed an open records request to get details and started asking questions, everyone’s you-know-what froze up. Then whattya know? She’s “resigned” within a matter of days. The excuse story is that Montgomery is moving to Florida but you know that’s not what really went down.

The hot gossip is Doug Hamilton, Chief of Public Services, went to her, said it would be in her best interest to resign or face being fired. She apparently chose to resign. Several people had been complaining to Greg Fischer for quite some time, which comes as a surprise to no one reading this. Some of those complaints came from two (former) LMAS staffers, who left the agency in protest… even though their names are still on the LMAS website. This latest incident must have been the last straw.

Stephanie Moore, formerly assistant director, is not replacing her as director, as some have suggested in the rumor mill.

How many is this now? How many LMAS directors have been ousted because of our coverage? Seven? Eight?

You’d think that your city’s electeds would wake up to reality at some point.

I’ll update if Chris Poynter from the mayor’s office provides a comment.

UPDATE – Seems they’ve finally put out a release:

Jessica Montgomery resigns to pursue endeavor in Florida

Mayor Greg Fischer today announced the appointment of law enforcement veteran Ozzy Gibson as the new director of Louisville Metro Animal Services.

He replaces Jessica Montgomery, who had led the agency since 2014. Montgomery resigned this week to pursue another opportunity in Florida.

“We wish her the best in her next endeavor,” Mayor Fischer said.

Gibson said: “I’m excited to return to Louisville Metro Government in this role. Metro Animal Services plays a big role in the health and wellbeing of our city, and I’m very much looking forward to working with this dedicated staff to make sure we’re giving the best service to both citizens and animals.”

Gibson assumes the leadership of Animal Services on Friday.

Pursuing other opportunities in Florida. Ha. Thank goodness most people have sense enough to realize what really went down.

ANOTHER UPDATE – Poynter dug up the old February memo regarding euthanasia. Handy for the Fischer crew to ignore all of her other issues. Drinking & driving in her city vehicle, alleged theft, all the other complaints. Possibility City loves a good semi-whitewash. Ignore most of the problem, shop a story around for favorable treatment, quickly move on to something else.
