Every time you visit The ‘Ville Voice, you’ll get a new and enlightening experience, a new way of looking at what’s going on in our city. That’s the idea behind the 100 area landscapes you see on the rotating banners at the top of the site. It’s no accident that the photos look at Louisville landmarks from a variety of angles and distances, much like our editorial outlook will examine stories big and small from distinct and original points of view.
This site isn’t just about the big news that makes our city tick, but also the stories behind the stories. We’ll examine the way our local media operates, and dish out a mix of compliments and complaints about personalities and politics of Metro Louisville.
Along with our sister site, Page One, this is a one-of-a-kind media venture combining original reporting with the tools of technology, and a little bit of attitude, to bring you a can’t-miss daily stop in your online travels.
In 2006, Rick Redding started the site as an outgrowth of his regular media column in the Louisville Eccentric Observer. A year later, the site became a part of Full Signal Media Group, a growing entrepreneurial venture owned by Redding and Jacob Payne. Working journalists, political insiders and regular folks help populate the daily flow.
Rick Redding, a Louisville native, got his start in media delivering the Courier-Journal on his bike in his South End neighborhood at age 13. Since then, he’s been a sportswriter, publicist, media salesman, TV producer, business reporter, on-air television reporter, copywriter, online editor, photographer, political campaigner, media columnist and blogger. Like so many who grew up here, he moved away for a decade or so before returning for good in 1989. He considers himself lucky to have three high-achieving sons. He lives in the Highlands with his wife Jeanine, Otis the dog and Raider the cat.
Jacob (Jake) Payne jokingly calls himself a computer geek and political nerd, but ask him a few questions and he’ll talk for hours about almost anything. That is– if he’s not complaining about the sad state of Louisville’s surface streets or convincing friends to move into his neighborhood of Crescent Hill. A native of eastern Kentucky (and local for nearly a decade), Jake is a political consultant and campaign finance professional who has served as spokesperson, congressional liaison, researcher, strategist and netroots director. You’ll often find him in the corner of your local coffee shop with an iPod or laptop. For Jake, The ‘Ville Voice is a foray into sharing Louisville with the rest of the world.
