Ramsey Should Be The UofL Sacrificial Lamb

It’s time for these Sunrise hacks to be cut off from the government milk cow. The fact that Steve Beshear allows those folks to continue to get wealthy under the charade of helping children with Jesus should make your skin crawl. [WDRB]

Nothing ever changes at the University of Louisville under Jim Ramsey. And it never will. In the wake of a string of cases involving embezzlement and misuse of funds at the University of Louisville in recent years, an independent audit commissioned by the university has recommended 17 policy and procedure changes, including improvements to disbursement practices, oversight and management. Police say an abused baby is being kept alive by machines and now the question is whether the baby should be kept on life support or taken off. Kosair Children’s Hospital and the baby’s family took the issue to a judge Thursday. [WLKY]

On July 2, 1964, the Civil Rights Act was signed into law, officially banning discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. It also ended racial segregation in schools, at the workplace and in general public facilities. Fifty years removed from that milestone, it’s apparently easy to think that we’re over racism. The weather for the Fourth of July weekend looks perfect and has a lot of people in Kentuckiana trying to figure out what to do for the holiday. Due to a lack of funding in the state budget this will be the first year Waterfront Park has canceled its Independence Festival and firework show, which means some smaller celebrations are planning for an influx of visitors. 1. “Filming ‘Groundhog Day’ at UofL”

Let’s see, haven’t we heard these words over and over from JR, i.e., about how the accounts & records system is being tuned to work better? When will the actual reality of this sham finally end? When JR gets canned, once and for all! Given the Board of Cadavers’ track record (of getting tuck in the mud on JR’s pants leg), I am not betting on any spiritual transcendence.

  2. What’s it gonna take for changes at the U of L? I guess guys in dark-blue windbreakers with the letters FBI written on the back hauling someone’s ass out of an office in handcuffs.

The university is a joke. Everyone knows it. The slide into mediocry continues and no one cares.

  3. Novena: This b-s at the local university [sic] has gone on so long with so little input from the Board of Cadavers that they NOW are complicit in the fraud that surrounds the place. I cannot imagine why anyone would accept a governor’s appointment to be on the bored [!] of that place. The public embarrassment of having one’s name associated with ‘Comb-Over’ and that Willinghast [sic] woman’ who’s the Provost would be beyond comprehension for anyone who had an ounce of personal pride.

  4. “Skeletons in Suits”

Tim & Highlander, my experience in academe is that many Board members and “college” administrators are in the game for more money & status, i.e., they are “suits.” They are typically thin on substance, but wear the gray-flanneled suits that make them seem important (most of the faculty rightly ignores them, if possible). But, unless they have a passion for higher education (and many of them do not), a college might decay or be destroyed while they are making the dough and making platitudinous speeches and taking little action.
UofL is, unfortunately, a pronounced example of being run by that kind of Board and that style of administrator. As higher education degrades generally, honchos are pulled from the worlds of business, law, politics, and sports (note that the ex-Ohio State football coach is now president of Youngstown State). Universities like UoL need more than a comb-over–they need a complete overhaul.
