Barbara Shanklin is getting her funtimes fun day in Newburg and Norfolk, where ever that is. We guess it’s a place. Is that a place? Let’s roll with it.
Here’s the latest press release that Jim King’s office put out for Barbara:
At the overwhelming requests of residents in the community, Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin (D-2) is announcing that the people of Newburg and Norfolk will have a community festival on Saturday, September 29th called “Newburg Community Fun Day.”
“I want the community to know that we will have a special day for them. It will be scaled back but we will still try to have fun and enjoy the unity of our community,” says Shanklin.
Shanklin and Ruben Pulliam, President the Petersburg Newburg Improvement Association made the announcement on Tuesday. The Association is still in the planning stages of the event which will be held only on Saturday and Sunday this year not the traditional three days of the Newburg Festival in years past.
“The decision to move forward has been made and we feel the community should not be denied a traditional event that has brought many together over the last 50 years,” says Shanklin.
The Councilwoman says details and a schedule of the event will be released when plans are finalized.
Possibility City. Where it’s possible to be super-corrupt and still act like you’re giving back to your community.

I know I am picking a nit here, but aren’t these newsreleases written by “professional PR” people? And aren’t a lot of them former journalists?
Wrong:
“I want the community to know that we will have a special day for them.”
Correct:
“I want community members to know that we will have a special day for them.”
or
“I want the community to know that we will have a special day for it.”
There is a lot more wrong with the Shanklin camp than bad grammar, but this still grates on me.

She must have something on King. Why do something for a woman under investigation? Or Shanky’s ego so big that she wants to be viewed as the Robin Hood of Newburg? Or is Both? Why is the Couch Whisperer still doing anything remotely related to her duties? She screwed up, got caught, and benefited personally. She isn’t a city employee (Pullen, anyone that drives drunk at Parks, or anything at LMAS) that keeps her job. She is a shyster and needs to be booted off the people’s couch. She’d still be benefitting personally if she hadn’t been caught.

It doesn’t matter, but Norfolk is a neighborhood on the other side of the GE property between Fegenbush Lane & Buechel Bank Road…the eastern side of her district. The area was notorious as a high crime area, although it has improved in recent years, to a medium crime area.
