Barbara’s not gone yet! She is innocent until proven guilty…. Ohh. I almost made it without laughing.

I just hope Barbara does the right thing. if she is guilty. (and it looks like she is) that would be. start spilling the beans on anyone on the council that she has poop on.

I’m sure there are more who have abused their position.

It’s not, necessarily, a ‘dislike for Happy Pants — as much as it is a ‘simple’ anger around the fact that the ‘bloke’ was allowed to ‘get away with utter mediocrity’ by a local news media that KNOWINGLY HID his ineptitude for years and years. All done to the point that the guy became a near egomaniac known by many as “Mayor for Life.” When, in reality, he was a joke who was never effectively opposed by a single candidate — never. Had he EVER been in a contested election, he would have been swamped. Louisville’s lethargy and the local media’s favoritism allowed this to all happen — and it’s, truly, a shame.

People like Jerry are the reason why I’ve always laughed at the Possibility City mantra and the whole recruitment process to get former Louisville residents to come back. Jerry was running around to Atlanta, Dallas, St. Pete, Tampa, SF, Chicago, etc trying to get people to pull up roots in those cities and move back to Louisville. Move back to what? A crumbling city in many places? Economic problems? Lack of paying employment and job opportunities? A crap school system that can’t even get above 118th out of 154 KY school systems? In a state that ranks near the bottom of all states in education year over year. 47th in college education? A university in Louisville that ranks 164th in the whole country and is 40 spots behind UK and 89 spots behind Indiana University. Not to mention despite having one of the largest endowments and financial contributions of any university in the whole country. What in the hell is going on here? You have a city that has a current mayor that has us 12 million in the hole. Not to mention an arena authority that keeps passing the buck and having AEG talk about how the arena will have a 1.1 million dollar surplus over the next 5 to 10 years. All the while, the economy sucks so bad that the downtown TIF district only garnered 6 million in tax revenues for the year down from the projected 15 million they were talking about. Add in the Louisville Metro Animal Screwoffs, the Metro Council, Barbara Shanklin, Judy Green, the rest of the so called Metro Council, the Floods, IPL, the shabby treatment of Joe Riffe, Louisville Water, MSD, and everything else. Why in the hell would these people go from making in some cases high five figure and six figure salaries to come back to someplace that at the rate things are going is going be in the same mess that places like Detroit, Birmingham, Memphis and other cities are currently experiencing. All because the local powers that be don’t have enough balls to say something about the atrocities and stupidity that is running things into the ground. Like Highlander mentioned, if Abramson had a real opponent in the elections other than Downard who was the only halfway serious candidate, he would have been beaten badly. Yet, for some reason, there isn’t anyone in this whole city that will come out and start blowing the whistle on these corrupt crooks and other than this site, no one reports it. Same for the local SO called right to know media that is WORKING for You, where are they in all this or just to make sure not to pick on one station, where is the other local affiliate stations or Mr. Point of View, or The Rant, or Live Local Late Breaking on all this. Where are they at? Sucking their thumbs? Afraid of someone? Going to have to call their mommies?

Where is the local media or even that rag of a newspaper that claims to be the conscience of the community or wants your subscription money to pay for their tired old news that you can find elsewhere. Are these people in the local media afraid of the good old boy club in town that might either try to shut them down, or get them fired, or replaced. Outside of a few people around here, and very few, no one wants to do a thing about injustices or criminality in government or anything else. Just a few people including this site have the balls to actually state things as they are and without fear or favor. Primarily because I don’t feel they are afraid of these hoods and good buddy types running things. Which is a heck of a sacrifice to make for where you live because as anyone knows the powers that be can make life and finances and economics difficult for other people. Which its time for the general community to start getting their heads out of their butts and start asking the hard questions. Like putting the hard questions to these Metro Council members and start asking why they keep going along with this criminal enterprise and the discretionary funds which are a nice way to pay back people. But wasn’t that what Jerry Abramson was doing from 1985 to 1998 and 2003 to 2010. Rewarding his lap dogs with political appointments, favors, and financial inducements to have good behavior and do exactly what he wanted. As he used to call alderman Melton, his good little rubber stamp back in the 90s. Hmmm, good little rubber stamp huh? So basically he pretty much got what he wanted and no one ever questioned him. Kind of like when Gary Roedemeier laughingly titled him as the Mayor For Life. Where is the accountability there? Like the appointments to the MSD, Louisville Water and other agencies. I’m sure I could go on and on but that’s just a sampling of the crap that has been forced on this community for the last 20 plus years.

Bill: Well put. I don’t know the answer. It’s utterly dumfounding that a public school system as pitiful as the test scores are in this one, pays its Board members $90 a meeting — when the budget of JCPS is LARGER that Metro’s budget. Despite all that, there hasn’t been a demonstration, seldom a letter to the editor expressing the disdain for JCPS — all the lemmings just wake up the next day and get in their cars and either drive to work or to the unemployment office.

A dead city, a miserable school system, an athletic club for a university and a public that’s asleep.

Not a good prescription for improvement.

Pass me another beer Jack, I need to wig out.

Speaking of JCPS, I know a great teacher who teaches in one of the lowest ranked schools in the city. She teaches third grade and her friend teaches fourth, the fourth grade teacher was given a copy of the test beforehand and ordered to teach the test. The teacher was afraid if she didn’t go along with what the principle told her their would be retaliation. This surely isn’t a prescription for improvement. I love the posts made by the Highlander and Bill..patriots.

Does anyone know how to inspire quality candidates to run for office?

I am convinced nothing will structurally change until we vote out the current “good buddy” types.

If we don’t start know, when?

    Oops.

If we don’t start now, when?
