Need some laughter in your day?
Here’s Jerry Abramson trashing Fancy Farm:

Many big name Kentucky Democrats skipped this year’s Fancy Farm Picnic, and the excuses varied: Gov. Steve Beshear was in Europe, there were no statewide races this year, and some Democrats did not want to weigh in on Obama.
Lt. Gov. Jerry Abramson declined to attend because he and his wife were celebrating their anniversary. But he told the Louisville Rotary Club Thursday that he didn’t miss being at the annual political speaking event at the Fancy Farm picnic.
“I think the days of yelling and screaming at folks who are up on the stage — just to yell and scream and make fun of them are days of the past,” Abramson said of the event. “Where was I? It was my anniversary.”
This is just the latest flap in Jerry’s world. From complaining that Louisville’s West End is too black and too poor to trashing the country’s largest political picnic, he’s clearly not living in the reality-based community.
If the organizers of Fancy Farm know what’s best, he’ll be barred from ever attending and the ban on Jerry will be loudly promoted each year.
Somebody should probably remind Mayor McCheese that it’s his political party responsible for the nastiness and sniping. It’s his people who spend their days defaming and attacking those who dare ask questions. It’s he who is responsible for a super-majority of the problems in Kentucky because it’s his people at the helm.

Somebody should also tell the buffoon that IF the local newspaper had even REMOTELY attended to its investigative responsibilities, the he NOT ONLY would have never been elected a bunch of time; he’d probably be wearing a striped suit somewhere. Where does one start with his joke of two decades: How about the Cordish deal, how about insisting that the Firemen’s salary lawsuit go all the way through the court system — That’s just 2 of the 2 dozen that have cost the taxpayers of this city in excess of $100mm dollars. Not even to mention the continued hiring of Larry Zielke at MSD, in return for campaign contributions.
Please — Happy Pants — just take a hike somewhere.

Well put.

Gordon: Might I say that it was a real struggle to avoid an “a _ _ hole” or two references. I decided it would be appropriate to ‘stoop to his level’ (and by that I don’t mean level of discourse)!!!!!!
4 The Highlander // Aug 10, 2012 at 6:05 pm
I mean to way “wouldn’t be appropriate”.

Why does Jerry want to be an elitist when it comes to people in the rest of the State?
6 The Highlander // Aug 10, 2012 at 10:18 pm
Because he is one, Debbie. His political career has been a ‘fake world, full of pablum, pratfalls and the blatant ignoring of reality — just like the world that ‘elitists’ live in. NEVER has the local news media ever criticized or investigated or placed him as the central figure of blame for a single one of his multitude of failures. He’s been treated to an elitist’s existence of being ‘untouchable’ and not at fault.
His career, following that of Harvey Sloane and interrupted by David Armstrong may well be the worst 35 years of mayoral leadership of a major city in American history. When Harvey started, Louisville was less than 50,000 short of Atlanta’s population and was nearly the largest city in the SOON TO BE BURGEONING Southeast.
Today Louisville can’t hit its ass with a snowshovel in competition with a half dozen or ten southeastern cities. From Atlanta, to Charlotte, to Nashville, to Orlando, to Raleigh, to Jacksonville etc.

What i don’t get is why Beshear would be interested in promoting him!!!,,,,,what do you think Jerry promised him when he gets Cordish the gambling license in Louisville…..???
8 The Highlander // Aug 11, 2012 at 7:57 am
To get that answer requires a grand jury investigation (either state or federal) that’s initiated by a legitimate inquiry into WHY he entered into the deal that GAVE an entire city block (Water Co. block on Third Street) to Cordish to (supposedly) build a shopping mall upon. Sworn testimony and the subpoena power of all Cordish’s and Happy’s records, etc., ought to be a pretty good start.
There’s ‘gold in them thar hills’ — believe me.

SO?….how’s that get done?….who’s not scared to go after him?….
10 chief // Aug 11, 2012 at 8:28 am
IT’s not like a lot of us out here don’t agree!!….Just WHO has the time ,money & stamina to take that on?…you know that “Old Saying” about fighting “City HALL”….they are some dirty fighters!

Chief: The US Atty is an Obama shill, put in place by connections to Barzan and Yarmuth. He’ll stay there unless Romney wins. So somebody needs to REALLY PUSH Barzan or Yarmuth. Commonwealth Attorney is a lame-lame duck (meaning lame before he was a lame duck). Comm. Attorney to be is probably Wine. He owes his existence to Happy Pants.
Answer: Guys like Jake and this Forum or others like it are the primary way to ‘drive the bus’ – unless Barzun and Yarmuth demand answers to the ‘very pregnant’ question that I presented. Won’t surprise me if he gets away with it — Lyndon Johnson died a multi-millionaire but never had anything but a public job – and Mitch McConnell’s on his way to the same status. It’s amazing what you can get away with when the news media doesn’t do its job.

Highlander is right. I’ve heard there are some folks in metro government that have stuff on happy pants and can’t be touched by Fishy. It would upset the balance in Franfort. All will remain under the rug. I beleve what I hear from people in the know.
13 The Highlander // Aug 11, 2012 at 11:47 am
I’m a $100 better — and I’ll bet $10,000 that he doesn’t run for Gubernatorial next time and that he’ll NEVER run against McConnell, because IF HE DOES it’ll all come out and he’ll be in deep-dodo.
Look for him to be appointed President of the Local Athletic Club, to replace the ‘retiring’ Comb-over Jim — at about $600k a year and a free mansion to live in. Larry Hayes will come with him (in some capacity) because there’s no way Crit Luallen (next Governor) will put up with E-town-Larry and his shennanigans (which include a $250k+ job as the head of Commerce in Ky [without a college degree and having never run a business].
Write it all down — cause I’m pretty sure.

Jack I have heard the same thing about people in Metro Government. I wonder sometimes if it is true. I have also heard those folks can’t be touched by Fishey. maybe one day the truth will come out. it’s obvious that happy pants is a bit corrupt. it’s just a matter of all the poop coming to the surface.
15 The Highlander // Aug 12, 2012 at 8:17 am
lateshift: It’s pretty easy. Just have to get to the weakest link in a daisey chain of corruption, he/she spills the beans and all of a sudden the King has no clothes. Chris Christie did it in N.J as a federal prosecutor. It was even done in Kentucky with BopTrot.
Time to Trot on Happy Pants’ Bop!

Who are the people still at Metro Hall that were with the Abramson administration that can’t be touched by fishey? I know former CJ writer chris Poynter is there but who else?
17 lateshiftatthezoo // Aug 12, 2012 at 1:41 pm
Highlander. the problem is they have made it pretty clear they will retaliate against anyone who try’s to do so. just take a look at the guy who is with public works. they tried to fire him. or how about the guy who reported Heitz they did fire him. people are afraid to speak up. both of those guys tried to do the right thing. from what I have read they were put through hell. there are a few men and women who would love to speak up. but who are they going to go to. the Cj the local news. they all just get treated like they are disgruntled employee’s. you can’t fight city hall. and their arrogance proves it. maybe just maybe one day we will all get lucky. someone will make someone mad. and all the beans will come spilling out.
18 Nova China // Aug 12, 2012 at 3:03 pm
In order to report corruption at Metro government, you’d have to find an honest division of state or federal government, or at least an even more corrupt MFer with a political agenda. And what difference would it make anyway? None. Has anyone noticed that voters don’t care about financial scandals anymore?
19 Debbie Linnig Michals // Aug 12, 2012 at 6:56 pm
I think this year the sleeping giant has been awakened……I wish more people were as passionate about good government as the people who leave great posts on the Ville Voice. In the olden days you would be called Patriots.
20 The Highlander // Aug 12, 2012 at 9:55 pm
I agree with Ms. Michals. The loss of credibility by the local newspaper is a PLUS. The TV news is getting more pointed, this very site has done much to properly alarm the public about slipshoddy government. ALSO, the piss poor results that LOCAL GOVERNMENT AROUND HERE has obtained over the last several decades has been the proverbial CHERRY ON THE BANANA SPLIT.
I have belief that the public is READY for an EXORCISM of the Happy Pants and “Arm’weak’s” of the Louisville world. I also believe that IF Happy had sought re-election around here — HE’D BEEN WALLOPED.
21 lateshiftatthezoo // Aug 13, 2012 at 2:44 am
I hope you guys are correct. I hope someone from the CJ get’s their poop together. I’m thankful that Jake has done the job he has to bring stuff to light. Happy Pants needs to be sitting in a cell 23Hours of the day. Fischey needs to wake up. but we all know he won’t. so he can just hit the road and go hide under a rock after the next election.
22 Debbie Linnig Michals // Aug 13, 2012 at 2:08 pm
A friend of mine was recently critizing what she calls the “gay mafia in local and state government.” I told her good government should care less whether you are straight or gay as long as you did your job. Has anyone else heard all this conspiracy talk?
23 lateshiftatthezoo // Aug 13, 2012 at 2:42 pm
Yes I have heard it many many many many many many times.
24 chief // Aug 13, 2012 at 3:15 pm
There is definitely an inner circle of participants inside the local government, now I don’t know how large a % are gay, buy i surely recognize that the allegiance of a certain inner group exists!
There has always been rumors of Jerry’s orientation, bottom line is that any subversive inner circle with their private agenda needs to be flushed out!, eradicated, exposed and delt with accordingly…..being a politician needs to be an honorary service & NOT an Occupation!…
25 The Highlander // Aug 13, 2012 at 5:12 pm
Let me make one thing ‘perfectly clear.’ The ‘…rumors of Jerry’s orientation….” [as the Chief writes] has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with my disdain for his admonistrative talents (which are virtually non-existent) OR his failure as a mayor. Nor does it have anything to do with my belief that his administration needs to be put under a ‘scope’ to examine whether state/federal criminal laws have been violated.
My opinion relates SOLELY to the issue of whether or not he or his administration were guilty of malfeasance in office of a criminal nature — which I think and believe the public is entitled to know.
26 chief // Aug 13, 2012 at 8:02 pm
I agree, I could care less with any ones orientation, I agree that Jerry should be put under a “scope” and seriously looked at!….The Public should know how bad they were duped, problem is most of it just goes over their heads, or they are too busy to consider how it effects them until it’s too late….The politicians have gotten away with it for so long it’s SOP! that if they can get people to believe the spin, then it becomes fact & truth…..You can say malfeasance with a capital “M”!

Mike Heitz, Neal Richmond, Jim Mims, Ted Pullen, Doug Hamilton, to name a few = not to mention all those assistants, deputies and managers that get swapped around because they are “connected” in some way.
28 lateshiftatthezoo // Aug 14, 2012 at 5:16 am
Everyone of those guys mentioned above have proved they can’t be touched. Heitz Gets caught drinking and driving. (30 day suspension). Pullen cost tax payers over $300 hundred grand because he decided to mess with Eric Garrett. Both of those bozo’s still have jobs. yet they both have fired Park Workers and Public Works employee’s for less. don’t get me stared on Richmond. Mims or Hamilton.

Does anyone really care about Fancy Farm. Worst political arena where the speakers are heckled by a bunch of right wing red necks. It is fun to hear their candidates speak. That way everyone in America knows why Ky is in last place in everything.
30 Debbie Linnig Michals // Aug 14, 2012 at 5:46 pm
I care about Fancy Farm and keeping the tradition that surrounds this small Kentucky (pop.458) town alive and well. Thay have hosted this picnic since 1888, the St. Jerome church was builgt in 1836. It is the biggest and oldest one day bbq picnic in the United States. For the Democratic leadership not to show is an insult to the wonderful people of Fancy Farm that work so hard the first of August to keep their community alive thru this event. If the heckling is the propblem maybe the rules need to be changed, the Fancy Farm citizenry loves to listen to good politics. This events helps not only Fancy Farm but all the surrounding areas, motel accomedations, gas, groceries etc. I am embarassed that our former mayor, now Lt. Governor has insulted the people of Fancy Farm an most of the Catholic population in that part of the state.
31 The Highlander // Aug 14, 2012 at 10:02 pm
There’s something amazing and encouraging (at the same time) about this particular post. 30 posts about Happy Pants and his dereliction of duty.
This is absolute proof that the public is sick of this buffoon and that the public has caught on to all sorts of half-assed political nuances, like him.
It is refreshing, TO SAY THE LEAST.
32 Sunny_Disinfect // Aug 15, 2012 at 12:09 pm
I have been to Fancy Farm and the heckling comes from both sides. Happy Pants doesn’t like it because it is now evenly divided – unlike in the past when it was heavily democratic and union dominated.
33 Zack // Aug 15, 2012 at 10:14 pm
I can’t believe this guy, he genuinely thinks he could be governor and he doesn’t even realize what an important tradition Fancy Farm is. I have a friend who is close to him who said that when he asked him about it he said that people need to find better things to do with their time. I’ll admit that Fancy Farm isn’t a place where you go to learn about issues, but it is a very important campaign tradition in the state of Kentucky. That picnic has had everyone from Happy Chandler, Mitch McConnell, George Wallace and Al Gore show up. It also brings a lot of business to Mayfield and Graves county. Hate to break it to Jerry, but Fancy Farm isn’t going anywhere, and people who are involved with politics in this state will see to that. They won’t take too kindly to him insulting that tradition either, especially in Western Kentucky where people already hate anything associated with Louisville. Just another arrogant and stupid move by mayor happy pants…
34 Zack // Aug 15, 2012 at 10:23 pm
Forgot, as for the heckling, they heckle both sides, and watching the politicians shoot back is hilarious. It is old school political debate, and it isn’t for the faint hearted. I guess Jerry is showing that he really has nothing to stand on politically except a good smile and a few nuances. You left the friendly confines of Louisville Metro, you are in Kentucky politics now Jerry. Your friends aren’t there to help, and everyone else hates everything about the place you came from. You either get with the program quick or you go down hard. Right now, your going down hard.
35 lateshiftatthezoo // Aug 16, 2012 at 6:25 am
I think Louisville is sick of the fact that Jerry still has some control over this city. when Fischer was elected there were a lot of us who thought that Greg would end the corruption and rid most departments of the people who were hand picked and protected by Happy Pants. this includes Mike Heitz, Neal Richmond, Jim Mims, Ted Pullen, Doug Hamilton and most of their assistants. Fischer has proved he is just a puppet to a higher power. Happy Pants has put this city in such a mess with shady deals. hiring and protecting people who are corrupt incompetent and arrogant. something he created by encouraging that type of behavior.
