Things are far from rosy at Kentucky Retirement Systems. Here’s a look at some of them. [Page One]
You can’t even go to the Highlands these days without some nut throwing exploding fireworks at you. At least the guy was arrested. Because people like Connie Marshall and other mentally ill people are allowed to drive deadly vehicles all over the place. [FOX41]
Alisha Ward, the equine program lady at the University of Louisville who stole $463,636, has been sentenced to 37 months in prison. [C-J/AKN]
Great, those abandoned dogs have been surrendered to Metro Animal Services, where they will be dead within two weeks. [WAVE3]
Less than a week after the state Energy and Environment Cabinet announced a water shortage watch for 27 Kentucky counties, Lexington officials made gray water, or non-potable water, available for residents or companies. [H-L]
Gag a maggot. Local teevee folks are going to be talking non-stop about David Camm. Again. Just go ahead and throw your television away. [WLKY]
You should probably go read this scathing column about the horrors of mountaintop removal from Ronnie Ellis. [Daily Independent]
The Red Cross has issued an urgent request for blood. Unless you’re gay. Then your blood is no good. [WHAS11]
Ruh ro, Miss Barbara is apparently furious with Greg Fischer and crew over their comments in the local newspaper. [WFPL]
WLKY was dropped from Insight Communications early Tuesday when the television station and cable company could not come to an agreement over contract renewal negotiations. [C-J/AKN]
Wondering why LG&E throws money at The Lane Report? Because it’s turned into a press release publisher and source of Beshear administration spin, sadly. [Click the Clicky]

UofL seems way too nonchalant about embezzlers as long as they can be reimbursed by their insurance company. Otherwise the punishment would be more severe, and they would more diligently seek recovery of ALL the missing funds – no matter where the search lead.
Sorta reminds me of the Hearns who scammed JCPS. They, too, received mild sentences & were not required to pay interest on the fraudulent funds they had used for their own gain. At that time some people grumbled that they, too, would be willing to “do the time” for such a lucrative financial “reward.”

Non-potable water is an under-used resource. But a 500-gallon minimum is terribly restricting… I water my plants 1-gallon-at-time with collected condensation from my central air.

Why should Insight and us viewers pay ever higher fees for local TV stations broadcast signal which is sent over the air for free? We are already watching their commercials.

With a proper set up, household gray water is a terrific resource.

“Fight On, You Colorful Cards!”
Card PR Man: “JR, we must become more careful about embezzlers on campus. Felner, Ward–who in hell is next?”
JR: “I’ll continue to fight to uphold the confidence the community and Commonwealth have in us. We dare to be great!”
Card PR Man: “What confidence? What greatness? It’s a damn impossible selling job, JR.”

Time Warner Cable has pulled their usual trick of placing a Nexstar CBS affiliate (WROC out of Rochester, NY) in place of WLKY… their programming schedule includes just about everything on WLKY’s schedule. So aside from local news, Access Hollywood (who cares?), and Anderson Cooper, everything that would have aired on WLKY is currently airing on the temporary fix (including all CBS primetime programming, soap operas, late night talk shows, game shows, and news… they’ve even got Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy on there). I’m just shocked that this didn’t happen with the WDRB fiasco, although it probably would have been a bigger challenge to find an affiliate which matches up close to them since Fox affiliates have so much syndicated programming. Supposedly, Nexstar stations have always been the one to fill the voids when Time Warner Cable pulls a station anywhere. Nexstar always claims that they don’t “approve,” but I find it very interesting that it is always their stations (and only their stations) which end up as the bandaid…

We’re getting another CBS affiliate in WLKY’s place for now. Not sure what city though.
