In this day and age of instantaneous reporting thanks to Twitter, Facebook, Skype, blogs like TheVilleVoice and other sources…newspaper paywalls are a kiss of death and only reveal the stupidity of higher management in some newspapers.

I think Gannett is lying about those numbers. I stopped paying the bill weeks ago and have just never gotten around to calling to cancel. Every single week, I get a new (higher) bill with a notice that says they are going to stop delivering the paper and that I am on my last paper. Yeah right. They just keep sending papers and notices. I even spoke with someone on the phone one day that told me to call circulation to cancel because they couldn’t do it. Since I was paying on a month to month basis for the Sunday paper & they kept telling me it would be cancelled, I figured they would have done it already. I think they are that desperate to keep subscriptions and hope that I will eventually pay the bill. I plan on calling them this week to give them an earful.

T, I wouldn’t be suprised if they sent you to collections rather than stop delivering.

My college sent me some junk directory of alumni that I did not request and they sent me to collections until someone with the brains to understand that the action would damage my ever wanting to give any more money.

Phil = It amazes me that you have to jump through hoops to get something cancelled. They have people call you on the phone but the people who call can’t (or won’t) cancel. I have already told them to do it but they won’t. I just refuse to pay for the online access.
