Let’s Rehash That Kentucky Kingdom Situation

Again.

Before we get into it, here’s a refresher on the big I-told-you-so moment.

The latest from A Kentucky Newspaper:

The Koch family partners paint a bleak picture of the conditions they face in reopening the former Kentucky Kingdom amusement park at the Kentucky Exposition Center as Bluegrass Boardwalk.

The ordinance, if passed as expected, would authorize the city to enter into an agreement with the Kochs to rebate a share of the occupational taxes generated by Bluegrass Boardwalk.

The Kochs last week again said that lining up financing is taking longer than expected — they also have a state application pending for up to $3.9 million in tourism tax credits — and they raised the possibility of having to push back the park’s reopening to 2014.

Yeah, nothing to see here, move along.

Also this:

After Six Flags abandoned the park in early 2010, the fair board spent nearly 18 months negotiating with Louisville businessman Ed Hart to reopen the site. The board ended those talks abruptly and then last October sought out the Kochs.

Interesting that there’s no mention of the millions (yes, multiple millions) the state now owes (this means you, the taxpayer) Ed Hart.

  1. The Koch family move is brilliant business strategy – they have control of the park at little to no cost to them. Based on the failed length of time the fair board spent negotiating with Ed Hart, they have two good years to drive business to the park that has been very successful for them. At that time, the park will have been closed for 4 summers and will need major repair before it can be opened.

  2. Can I get the next set of Lottery numbers. Jake it seems you are able to predict the future. I’am curious to see who is going to get the blame for the condition of the park.

  3. Big breaking news story on WHAS 11 at 6 . Bluegrass Boadwalk WILL NOT I repeat WILL NOT !!!! be reopening Ky Kingdom until 2014.

  4. Can I get an amen for our prognosticator? Not really that difficult to predict, but with all the rose colored glasses being worn around this town by media, politicians and others it’s little wonder they are shocked by this.

  5. The problem with where shit rolls around here is that “hill’s pretty high” so the shit has a long way to roll and it takes a long time to get to the bottom. Example: Jerry Abramson started his ‘shit-roll’ in 1986!!!!!!!

  6. There’s one more sentence to add — “And his ‘shit-roll’ is still rolling for another 4 years.” ONLY IN KENTUCKY.
