You know what’s strange?
Ray Barker is a candidate for the First District Metro Council seat.
Yet he continues to appear in television spots for Kaufman, Stiger & Hughes.
When you run for political office, you have to stop that sort of thing.
Otherwise you’re making a contribution to your campaign that must be reported to the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance.

What is it about these folks that they don’t understand election laws or campaign finance? They must have learned a lot from Dirty Judy.

just because i don’t know (and haven’t seen the spots), why? is he promoting himself, or is it an ad for his firm to generate business? is his candidacy mentioned?
assuming he’s not justan actor, if someone’s job WAS tv spot actor, does that person have to stop doing his job when running for office? would the law effect tv anchors, reporters, etc? where does the law draw this line?

The FCC requires equal time for candidates.
So if old dude wants to be on the teevee? His opponents are obligated to receive the same amount of airtime as he from each station running the ads.

Since Roseanne Barr is an announced, registered with the FEC, candidate for the Green Party nomination for President, doesn’t that mean that stations have to stop showing her shows?
Also, wouldn’t it be possible to show Ray Barker’s Kaufman, Stigger, and Hughes ads on cable if the homes in the first district are blacked out? Does Insight have the capability to target ads by location?

Jake: Are you sure about your ‘equal time’ reference? I think the law allows this to occur. If Patty Swope wants to run for political office, she can ‘still’ run ads for her business. Unless I’m mistaken, I think the ‘equal time’ requirement is ‘gone.’

Yep. Have written about it a bunch over the years.
Remember when WBKI had candidates on and it caused an FEC/FCC complaint orgy?
It’s also why J. Marshall Hughes took his ads down when he was in that special election.
