This Is Why Health Care Can’t Have Nice Things

February 3rd, 2012 by jake · 7 Comments

When you think of a committee of community leaders who should oversee a review at the University of Louisville Hospital, is this what comes to mind?

University Hospital’s governing board announced Thursday that hospital operations will be reviewed to address questions about their “strengths and vulnerabilities” raised during debate over a proposed merger.

A consultant will be hired to conduct the review, overseen by a committee that will include state and local government representatives, as well as hospital board members.

The nine-member committee includes Louisville Metro Council President Jim King; Ellen Hesen, chief of staff to Mayor Greg Fischer; state Economic Development Secretary Larry Hayes; and Dr. David Dunn, U of L’s executive vice president for health affairs. The other members are UMC board representatives Gerry Anderson, Dale Boden, Joan Coleman and Charlie Johnson.

Really? Jim King, Larry Hayes and Charlie Johnson?

Really?

Yeah that’s the ticket! Let’s hire another “consultant” to help us engage in more smoke and mirrors, and issue a potemkin report. Yeah that’s the ticket!

Strange thing about this post: Democrats have been calling me all day trying to rip me a new asshole for raising questions about the good old boy network they usually hate.

Republicans that typically hate me? Calling to thank me for posting it.

Something must be in the water.

Haha ha! Never any surprises if it involves anything associated with U of L. Why not just let JRs favorite board croanies report out and save the consulting fees? Odds are the consultants will be friends of friends and just as swayed. Hey, was that a consultant sitting between JR & TJ during the last game at YUM Center? The honest consultant can’t get a ticket!u

    “Consultants from Heaven”

I think the consultants will be from the Vatican. They will drop their Cardinals’ garb and wear red suits–thus appearing like the UofL Board of Cadavers. They will also write up whatever JR & the other honchos call for.

    Attn: All Cardavers

Another review is approaching. With all your practice I trust that each of you have rehearsed your roles. Remember, you hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil. When cornered about suspicious activity always refer to it as anonymous crap and look dumb. The public is used to us looking dumb so it won’t shock anyone. Most of all, remember to avoid honesty at all cost and protect your leaders!

“The Cadavers at the Beck and Call”

Cadaver #1: “I’m sick of being called a ‘cadaver,’ but I’d be a consultant if it would help JR do whatever he wants. After all, that’s our job.”

Cadaver #2: “I’d be a ‘cadaver’ consultant if I can continue to get athletic tickets and can raid the UofL Foundation for more bucks.”

JR: “Let them call you anything. Without you guys, I’d need real consultants, and I’d just be a lump on the sidewalk on First Street.”
