Let’s Discuss Logic At Metro Animal Services

No, you’re right. Logic doesn’t exist there.

But this is worth discussing:

I just had my first experience with LMAS today and I really don’t understand the way they operate. I found a dog online that is currently at LMAS, so I forwarded his information onto my mom, who was looking for a dog to adopt. He’s had some head trauma and only has one eye. My mom went to the adoption shelter and immediately fell in love with him, and him with her. However LMAS told her that he was being sent to a rescue center in Michigan tomorrow morning and if she had come in two weeks ago she could have adopted him!! I really don’t understand their viewpoint that an animal would be better off at a shelter, even if it’s no-kill than in a loving home. LMAS told my mom that if he doesn’t get adopted up there he’ll spend out the rest of his life in a no kill shelter, while I’m glad it’s no kill, the dog is only 5 months old, why not adopt him out to someone who wants him!!

I really don’t understand their logic.

Yeah.

Let that sink in.

And you wonder why we continue to question Greg Fischer’s inaction.

Insanity prevails as usual. 1st priority: local placement, whether return-to-owner or adoption, 2nd priority: rescue/foster. If someone wants to adopt an animal scheduled to go to rescue, let them, and send a different animal to rescue, thereby saving two lives for the “price” of one. Besides, adoption generates more revenue than sending an animal to rescue, so even from a fiscal perspective LMAS actions are just plain stupid.

Totally agree, but also, if the puppy has a commitment to go to a rescue, and he’s no longer available, why not take him off of Petfinder or whatever site Dainan was looking at? Another communication issue. The good news is that several of the MN rescues that LMAS sends dogs to actually and actively promote adoptions, so it’s unlikely this puppy will spend his life in a shelter – I’ve had fosters go to MN and find homes right away. Still – I doubt if the rescue would quarrel with a puppy finding a home today instead.

They weren’t going to a rescue – they were going to another shelter.

Oh, well then that makes no sense whatsoever. No surprise, unfortunately.

To Puppy Love: The woman who wanted to adopt this dog went to Animal House and met the dog there.

To Turner – yes, after she saw the dog online. That hardly matters. The point of all this is, a homeless dog has a chance at a home locally, but is refused that chance. WHY?
