MSD Is A Hotter Mess Than You Can Imagine

December 12th, 2011 by jake · 5 Comments

MSD paid an $8,000 fine to the Army Corps of Engineers.

And then said it wasn’t a fine.

It’s about time these shysters got a taste of their own medicine. They’re still trying to operate like they’re a corporation that doesn’t have to answer to the taxpayer.

We just wish A Kentucky Newspaper would do its job and write about the new lawsuit filed against MSD on November 29. It can dedicate pages and pages to slander/libel and general nastiness toward legitimate critics but can’t be bothered with protecting the community.

MSD board members and employees are Jerry’s friends. Therefore, they are the C-J’s friends.

Not only that but the MSD is 2.7 billion dollars in the hole for its mismanagement. Then wants to increase its service to expand to surrounding counties outside of Louisville? So they tried to lobby the General Assembly for the authority to take over operations in Bullitt, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer, etc. Uh, something is wrong when they want that sort of authority. Here is a nice link to a taxpayer page regarding the MSD and its desire to get the KY General Assembly to pass a bill so it can expand outside of Jefferson County.

This whole idea of giving the MSD more power is totally BS. These people can’t even run their own agency without running up billions in costs. So now what? Are they going to eventually have to file bankruptcy like Jefferson County, Alabama did or as Detroit is going to have to do when the money runs out. Something is really amiss when you can pay an executive director a huge salary and have no bid contracts and these people get all kinds of contracts. No wonder the MSD is in a sad shape. Yet somehow the director gets not only a salary but deferred compensation and a good pension out of it for mismanagement.

It also explains why that Kentucky Newspaper won’t have anything to do with an honest accounting of the missteps and fiscal mismanagement of the MSD or anything else that Louisville Metro Government does. Because they are all beholden to the power of Jerry Abramson and Greg Fischer who have spent years covering up for malcontents and incompetents that have run this once nice city into the ground. Its a culture of incompetence and covering one’s rear end constantly rather than making these people accountable for their actions. The Kentucky Newspaper and all of the major media outlets in Louisville are the ones who have shied away from reporting to truth to the people. As members of the fourth estate, they have shirked on their responsibility to inform the public at large. Time to start asking why these media people are so afraid of the powers that be. Just like how it takes a house explosion to get the local electric/gas monopoly to get off their duffs and do something. Louisville Water is another case of this mentality that someone owes them something. Just have an issue and work through their system and deal with their customer service. Another agency that needs to change.

If MSD becomes a multi-county utility, their rates increases will no longer be under the control of a local government. And speaking of rates increases, I’m sure they’ll parlay that $8,000 fine as an excuse to increase ours.

Fortunately, HB 221 got shot down in the General Assembly in 2010 but if that is the plan of MSD I am sure that they will try again.

Anyway, this is just another good reason why MSD needs to be investigated and have its management sent packing as well as a full audit but don’t hold your breath. This is Kentucky and don’t expect the Attorney General, Mayor, or anyone else to get involved because all of them march to the beat of the same drummer. No accountability as usual.
