Downard Should Challenge King At Metro Council

If Jack Conway were serious about doing a good job, he’d be investigating his friends at Kentucky Retirement Systems and he’d be investigating the problems within the Beshear Misadministration. [Page One]

Have you read the comments on that Klepal story about Greg Fischer pulling a bait and switch with campaign contributions and his inaugural fund? It’s absolutely hilarious to watch people like Harold Trainer try to defend Fischer by saying, “I trust Greg Fischer, I believe he did the right thing.” HAHAHA. Despite all the facts being right there in front of them. No wonder Louisville is screwed. In related news, it didn’t take long for the paper to start trying to hide the story. [They Get Comments]

Steve Beshear (and Greg Fischer) loves to talk about how important women and minorities are to his administration. So, yet another meeting involving women and minorities was canceled with no makeup date. This time it’s the Bridges Project Advisory Group on Women, Minority and Small Business Enterprises that was scheduled for today. [Press Release]

A planned mixed-use block on Fourth Street has been rendered. [Broken Sidewalk]

Greg Fischer and his staff are spending every waking moment talking about overtime pay. They’ve got a lot of negative press to cover up and ignore. Interesting that no one in the mainstream is asking why it took Fischer a YEAR to notice there’s an overtime problem… because we’ve been talking about it for a long time. [WLKY]

Kelly Downard should serve as Metro Council President. It’s time for Jim King to step aside. He apparently doesn’t have the balls to stand up to the mayor or his partisan colleagues on any front and that’s not great for this city. Jim’s a nice guy and has good intentions. But he’s gone against his word to stand up to Fischer and he’s afraid to speak out publicly on matters of importance. [C-J/AKN]

Louisville Metro EMS is still awaiting a contract. This is why Louisville can’t have nice things. [FOX41]

And just like that, Metro Council reinstated the sale of fireworks. You have to wonder if the council was trying to be as disconnected as Greg Fischer when it banned them a few weeks ago. I mean, this is the home of THUNDER. Jesus. [Metro Council Head-Desk Moments]

Lexington wants to assess additional fees for downtown properties so it can market its downtown. Jim Gray needs to start learning from Louisville’s mistakes. [H-L]

Oh, look, your local teevee stations and the Associated Press picked up our story about Greg Fischer’s campaign finance shenanigans and gave credit to the paper. Naturally, the AP ruins the story and leaves 90% of details out. [WAVE3]

Republic Bank has settled with the FDIC and will stop refund-anticipation loans. The rest of the local media is silent on what was once a big scandal. [Business First]

Wondering what animal abuser/neglecter Jackie Gulbe is up to these days? Why, she’s shilling on WHAS11 for Yew Dell Gardens. [WHAS11]

The CJ reported on December 8, 2011 that Dr. Neil Richmond, director of Metro EMS, said overtime is strictly guided by a contract. “Because of the contract, EMS does not have the ability to spread overtime more evenly among employees…”

    What contract?

WDRB reported on December 8, 2011 that:
Todd Thomason, the Secretary of Teamsters Local 783, tells WDRB that Louisville EMS has been without a contract for 18 months.

Dr. Richmond was also quoted in CJ article that …senior employees want to work more hours because it helps them set a higher salary for pensions..” How convenient.

She (Gulbe) can also be seen wearing an apron at “Trader Joe’s.”

When a Metro labor agreement expires without a new contract, usually an agreement is made to continue under the terms of the old contract, except for pay raises. So all the seniority for vacation and OT stays in place.

Jake, with the brown outs planned on the lexington FD (because of Gray’s failure to hire enough FFs to lost with attrition in an attempt to save money) Lexington residents can expect that their home’s insurance will go up.

Seriously call their Union and get the skinny.

We met with some members and it was very interesting.

    Just sayin’

Gil: What do you expect from a man who didn’t feel safe coming out of the closet until he had millions of dollars to cover his butt?

He’s taking cues from Greg Fischer.

I had high hopes for him. And to be honest I had higher hopes for Greg.

I can only hope that Greg gets his head out of his keyster, or out of the other keysters who are providing him his operational advise.

I like Jim a lot and consider him a personal pal. But reality is reality and I think he would admit he didn’t feel safe coming out until he had mountains of cash.

Greg won’t. Business types are abandoning up. But the folks within his administration and those who ignorantly believe they’re a part of something big will continue to hype him up (that includes the editorial board).
