Metro Council is putting tighter control on constables like that crazy guy who shot a lady in the face. Now it’s time for the state legislature to give cities and counties the ability to nix the office if they so desire. [WFPL]
If you haven’t paid attention to Steve Beshear’s latest stunt, it’s time to wake up. Firing a guy because some coal types pushed for it after making mega contributions. [Page One]
Of course Greg Fischer thinks his new job is just one big party. He’s throwing a “farewell reception” for Robert White in conjunction with LMPD. Only… Greg will be the only person there sad to see White leave. LMPD is throwing the reception because they’re glad he’s leaving. [WHAS11]
How excited are you that Louisville is both one of the most artery-clogging cities in the country and one of the most depressed? [WKYT]

Is there some kind of crazy force field at area Walmart stores that causes people to go insane? First they’re shooting people in the face. Now they’re fighting with clerks? [WAVE3]
Of course Metro Council should better define when spending is for a public purpose. It’s a disgusting shame that taxpayer dollars had to be spent to pay a consultant to tell us that. [C-J/AKN]

If there’s been no increase in crime at/near Cordish Co’s cash-sucking development, then why the heck has, you know, the general public noticed an increase? These violent attacks have not been going on for months and months. This crap is new. [FOX41]

There is no doubt an increase in crime around 4th street and the criminals are becoming more brazen in their efforts. Also, it is a joke…well actually it is a lie to suggest that 11 officers are assigned to patrol 4th Street Live. There are no more than two officers at a time assigned to patrol the beat that covers 4th street. However, this beat includes most of the rest of downtown as well. These two officers are responsible for an area much larger than just 4th street. There are also bike patrol officers that make patrols through 4th street, but they are also responsible for all of downtown- when they are actually on the street and not assigned to one of the hundreds of “details” in which the LMPD is forced to provide free security for private functions (with your tax dollars). During the weekends individual businesses on 4th street hire off duty officers to work at their business to provide security. How can LMPD suggest that 11 officers are assigned to 4th Street Live and keep a straight face? This is how Metro wants it though – don’t tell the public what’s really going on with crime. Every year there are multiple violent assaults and robberies (sometimes shootings) on the waterfront in the weeks prior to Thunder over Louisville. Metro and the media choose to downplay or even ignore this so the public doesn’t get afraid to come downtown and to the waterfront for the festivities.

The statements about 11 officers assigned to patrol 4th Street Live is simply insulting to the rest of the retail community of Louisville. Even though the City wants to protect the money pit they created , it’s a statement that the rest of the retail community doesn’t deserve the same degree of protection!….If u want to be safe while visiting 4th Street Live just do what most of the clientele does there, “pack your pistol”….they don’t ever check anyone !….that place should have metal detectors at the entrance.

“4th Street LIES”……they always just make up the Spin that the City wants you to believe!!! Amazing , simply Amazing! The Lies these people get away with, I guess they think people are stupid.
Word on the street is The Hard Rock is leaving next, pretty soon there won’t be anything to worry about keeping safe. Just turn it over to the THUGS, that’s the way it’s going anyway and there’s not a thing anyone can do about it.

Is “THUGS” code for something?
Downtown is not unsafe. 4th Street isn’t unsafe.
But it’s silly to suggest there’s not a crime problem.

Most of these readers’ comments, as well as the ones following the WDRB “story” itself, are very informative. – Since “transparency” has as little meaning for THIS mayor as it did with our LAST one.

Not a code for anything, THUGS are the disrespectful elements that wear their pants hanging down past their ass, flash all the gang signs, act rude .It’s the element that runs off the more wanted & welcomed clientele, THUGS generally demonstrate the attitude that the rules aren’t for them or are too Cool to have to abide by rules.
The most startling thing about all this is that if anyone thinks there’s not a safety issue down there !, especially the City, they have a screw loose, If you don’t believe that then just remove the 11 police officers and try to manage it with maybe two and see what happens.
As far as who is paying the officers to patrol at 4th Street Live?.That’s a great Question, and the real simple answer is , WE the taxpayers are paying for it with the free $$$ the city gives to Cordish.
The money is coming from somewhere., if it’s coming from the business operations at 4th St Live, and the City is GIVING them money , Who do you think is paying for it? I bet NO OTHER similar operation has gotten any money from the city to insure the safter of their patrons like 4th Street Live.
Also the things that have been unreported and kept quiet down there to Not give it any negative impact is unbelievable.

Sounds like code for “young & black” to me.
You people need to get a grip and quit with your non-white fear.
And if you have proof of unreported activity? Spill it. Otherwise, I’ll count you as one of the many white flight folks in the metro area.

Oh! come On!….It’s got nothing to do with NonWhite fear! It does have everything thing to do with establishing a grid of perceived safety for the entire district of entertainment from Muhammad Ali to Main, & 1st to 5th. Look lets just say the THUG effect is the component that the CITY wants to protect Only 4th St Live from , and that element comes in all colors & races. NOT only Black, but White, Latin, Hispanic, ect.
So if the City Truly wants to establish Downtown perception of safety, and they are putting 11 officers at 4th Street Live, and the Taxpayers have been paying for it by all the free funds given to Cordish, why not deploy those 11 and additional officers as a visible presence on every corner throughout that matrix. After all the Taxpayers are footing the bill and have been for seven years!!
If the $$$ spent out of the FREE money given to 4St Live to make their patrons feel safe had been deployed to create a matrix of visible profiled presence on all the corners of that area, (Example).Police cars on all the corners parked visible, with marker lights on , the officers posted outside the cars standing on the corners connecting and communicating with downtown visitors that are pedestrians going to and from business’s ,hotels, restaurants, clubs, in the area. The Thugs( whoever ,whatever color/race) might be more reluctant to encroach into the inner perimeter of that area. The use of the funds could have been used more effectively and wisely to help create and actual district and Not just 4th St live safe haven! After all the individual business operators downtown make it a practice to hire off-duty individually to ensure safety on their respective premises, so add that presence to the overall mix and then the downtown area becomes an area where the THUGS(bad guy, predators) might think twice about pulling their bullshit and then having to outrun the radio communications within the matrix. What the hell why shouldn’t the area benefit from the $$$ spent that are being given to Cordish to pay all that off-duty !
Instead of the critical mass of these officers hanging together hanging in a cluster at 4th st , waiting for something to happen, then rushing to the problem /incident. Maybe a better organized plan, implemented differently, ( since it’s already being PAID for by the taxpayers money given to 4th St Live/Cordish, why should they be the only benificary. Think about it.
This city needs to embrace the entire area of downtown & NOT just 4th St Live. They have ignored the safety of other contributors to the environment downtown cause they wanted it all at 4th St Live.
Such a plan was proposed to the city by business downtown to iniciate such a program April – Sept, for Wed thru Sat , for that period. They attempted to muster support from the city thru the respective Metro Councilman, and the business’s were offered $5k to support such a program.I think that amounted to about $52 / a nite for the aprox 96 potential nights of the program.
But the Metro officer is saying that 11 officers are detailed to patrol 4th St. Live……Just do the math & follow the money!
If you don’t think there’s a fear and safety issue within the permiter area of 4th st Live just take a poll of single females of their feeling if they park a block or two away from there.

Just saying, it just isn’t what the City tells everyone, within the area that include all the hotels , clubs, restaurants there are always going to be incidents that can’t be prevented.just an opinion that a more effective plan could be implemented and more people doing business downtown could benefit if they had the same attention as 4th st live. And That would be a HUGE plus for the perception of Downtown.
Very disappointing for the Councilman and the city not to see the wisdom in projecting a good safe warm and welcome atmosphere downtown, at more then 4th st Live/

The whole “thug” bit and folks who sag their pants is straight outta crazy ass Judy Green Fantasy Land. The kind of place where you judge an entire group of people based on how they dress or the color of their skin.
If it’s got nothing to do with any of that, perhaps a bit more articulation is necessary.
