Development Code Getting Jacked By Greg’s Crew

September 27th, 2011 by jake · 8 Comments

Remember Bill Bardenwerper? The guy Greg FIscher appointed only to have him make speeches and put in writing the declaration that he will ignore and overlook anyone who did not actively work to get Fischer elected?

Surely you remember him – he’s the guy who was also involved in the Jackie Green scandal.

Turns out his plan to change the local development code to his liking is getting under way:

Subject: Land Development Code Improvement Committee

Hello,

As you may already be aware, Mr. Jim Mims, Director of Codes and Regulations, has directed myself and Emily Liu, as staff of Planning & Design Services, to proceed with a series of meetings with the goal of improving the Land Development Code. You are being invited to participate on the Land Development Code (LDC) Improvement Committee.

The first meeting of the LDC Improvement Committee will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 from 3:00 to approximately 4:30 in the large first floor conference room at the Metro Development Center. This committee is initially being charged with identifying language within the LDC that for various reasons should be amended. The committee will create a list of recommended changes that will eventually be reviewed by the Planning Committee, the Planning Commission and the Metro Council or other legislative bodies when necessary. Staff anticipates that this committee will meet bi-weekly and have the final list of recommendations completed within approximately 60 days.

During this first 60 day review period the committee will be focused on strengthening the document by revising or eliminating text and eliminating conflicting statements within the document. After this first round of proposed changes has been completed, this committee or another similar committee and others will begin to take a broader look at the entire contents and subject matter of the LDC for a potential second round of proposed text amendments. The details and timeline of this second phase of the LDC review have not been completely determined as of this time.

Please let me know if you are interested in joining this committee with a response to this email. Please come to the meeting with any notes you’ve made in the past on ideas to improve the LDC as our main task during the first meeting will be to begin identifying problem sections of the code. And please let me know if you have further questions about any of this.

Thank you

Michael D. Hill, AICP

And why is this a surprise when you put a zoning attorney in charge of the regs?
He is always for the developer, never the neighborhood. Just wait and watch.

Well, there are SOME zoning attorneys who aren’t complete asshats.

  • 3 James R. // Sep 27, 2011 at 3:22 pm

Perhaps, but Bardenwerper is not one of them.

Jake, did you notice Dawn Warrick is not listed on the email? Story is she was axed by Fischer because Bardenwerper wanted her gone.

    Rico: That’s accurate.

This is a total end run by the homebuilders and small time developers (many clients of BB), who are still in their 1999 building boom comas and see their salvation in back to the past rubber stamping of unnecessary projects, and who want no review or adherence to any code that guides sustainable development (BardenCode for delay)… We hear the dept. will be renamed Panic and Resign. Look for the new hires to be friends of the friends of the friends. Why do you think all the good thinkers with actual experience and dedication are gone? Now you know what the Dept. of Sustain-a-Billy is truly about. Innovative, huh?
