Jim King: Metro Council’s LMAS Excuse-Maker

September 15th, 2011 by jake · 8 Comments

Hey Jim–

Thought I’d write another open note to you. Because Greg Fischer doesn’t deserve all of the blame.

Four things we know you’ve done/can do:

  • You can give the KDRP $20K (no, you don’t do that routinely, stop saying that – KREF records are public) for them to use it to attack you.
  • You can take a polygraph to prove you weren’t involved in the Ken Herndon snafu.
  • You can spend tons of money defending your daughter.
  • You can come out in public when your credibility is questioned or you’re sued.

The thing we know you can do but won’t:

  • You refuse to check out the Metro Animal Services nightmare without giving them a two-week heads-up. It’s silly that you won’t just flipping take initiative and do it without making excuses as the HEAD of Metro Council.

How the hell are we supposed to take you seriously when you say you’re going to do something as Metro Council President when you can’t take an hour out of your work week to randomly show up to check things out on occasion? (No, don’t try telling me you can’t do it – you can. And don’t tell me your presence wouldn’t IMMEDIATELY turn things around.)

You have the power to fix this problem. Just like your wife solves problems at the zoo. If you really want to continue reclaiming your pre-2008 reputation, you should jump on this like white on rice.

Show some flipping leadership that you swear up and down you’re capable of.

Jake is RIGHT!…..All you councilpersons are just a bunch of talkers that try and give fabricated statements that are non-comittal to them assuming any action!
Hey JIM!? If you thought you had a bank teller, or bank officer at King Southern Bank , stealing, or cooking the books, would you wait two weeks and give him notice that you are going to check & audit that person. I BET NOT!
How about taking that 15 min ride to Manslick Rd. and walking in unannounced!? Is it because you know it”s going to be 10 times as bad as you thought? So the less publicity the better? Just do your job! You can’t be that busy , as much drama & controversy this matter has generated, If you truly are a leader and consider youself capable, you should have been there a LONG time ago.
Hell , just send Kelly Downard in ! He’s probably the only one that will be honest enough to Tell it like it IS!

Every last one of them should show up – randomly ….

Every last one of them should show up – randomly ….

Or better yet, send a trusted friend or relative in – on the off chance they might be recognized. If you REALLY want to see what is going on, you need a spy. I had to explain that once to a local high ranking cop, who didn’t understand the complaints about his own agency – if you really want to know what is going on, you have to send in someone they will perceive as just another citizen.

Amen Jake….AMEN. Jim King as president of Metro Council is not reassuring to me. The deal with his daughter was enough to tell me about his integrity.

I know you’re bitter about Katie but give it a goddamn rest. She won re-election.

My point, since it apparently needs to be reiterated, is that we know what Jim CAN do. That alone says to me that he is capable of handling LMAS.

Jake: I agree with you in your retort to James R. Enough about Katie King. She’s won re-election, was well-regarded in the judicial poll — and continued b.s. ing about her is not justified. The liberal-leaners ever bitched very much about Joe Kennedy’s buying West Virginnie for Jack and later buying Chicago for him. She took her dad’s money and most every one of you out there would have done the same thing. Enough already.

Yes please. Change can’t happen unless people are watching and making sure it DOES happen. The council needs to be involved drop in so LMAS moves forward with positive motion rather than cleaning up and allowing animals to continue to die. I really think enforcement and disease control are the only thing the management team think about – they have said “we want to save all adoptable pets” but all the press releases and statements are about enforcement and how the public caused disease issues at LMAS rather than looking internally. I do think they are looking internally and cleaning things up but it is NOT the focus we were promised.

Meanwhile – please read this which I wrote regarding the dog Rex that was posted and share then removed from FB. There was a photo of the dog with a sign that said “aggressive” with a person snuggling up to the dog. There is a debate about the group that removed the photo – some feel we should be open and welcoming. I feel we should be cautiously optimistic. This is only part of the discussion. Jeff is with one of the rescues and he and I disagree on approach – but he’s great:

Toni is correct. Volunteers are getting kicked out. Caroline – I have spoken with the leadership and am willing to allow good things to happen but as I told Margaret and Justin I’m going to help while remaining a watchdog group. They both know and recognize this and I’m going to keep asking hard questions because the animals deserve that. I’m straight forward with them and asked Margaret directly about Rex – she told me the sign was for a different dog. I then asked her if Rex was killed, she said she’d have to find out. I told her I’d give LMAS leadership equal time and put any response she and Justin want to make officially about Rex onto NKL in response to me putting Rex on there with the promise I’d find out what happened. They have not said anything nor to do they now have to because it was removed and so goes the controversy or pressure to respond.

I’m TRULY hoping that things move forward to saving all the adoptable pets but I also think we must keep the pressure on for that to happen. I’ve ALWAYS helped no matter who or what was said or done to me or NKL or who was in charged. I’ve always helped because it’s about the pets not about whether I like or agree or disagree.

Jeff and I have different stances on the issue but we both work together and I think Jeff is fantastic and what DCDD is doing is fantastic. I just believe that rescues have done LOTS of wonderful things for years EXCEPT speaking up so it can actually, finally, and forever change – I understand their reasons why they don’t (worries they’re be locked out, worries pets will die, worries their own pets will be taken, etc) but if you speak up enough and become a strong enough voice you will eventually make it impossible for the shelter to kill pets without accountability AND attack you without repercussions.

    EDIT – THIS SENTENCE
I do think they are looking internally and cleaning things up but it is NOT the focus we were promised.

    SHOULD HAVE READ

I do think they are cleaning up the shelter – actually putting procedures in place – but it is not the *focus* we were promised.

THE WAY I HAVE IT WORDED IN THE ABOVE DOESN’T MAKE SENSE. hahaha
