Now they’re going to start putting Jefferson County parents in jail for sneakily sending their kids to Oldham County schools. I mean, can you blame them for not wanting their kids to deal with JCPS? [C-J/AKN]
Friday was the 114th day Republican Party of Kentucky Chairman Steve Robertson questioned Jack Conway: “Voters in this state are sick of politicians who simply refuse to answer important questions,” said Robertson. “Jack Conway is going to be in for a rude awakening on November 8th when the voters finally get their chance to retire him for good.” [Press Release]

Really? A mayor’s book club created by newspaper editor Keith Runyon? And that’s how tight the relationship is? Keith just emails Greg Fischer and Greg does what he wants? Cute how the paper wrote an editorial loosely chastising Greg and then gave him two pages for his own op-ed about reading. [C-J/AKN]

Okay, so I can maybe “understand” your take on JCPS vs. Oldham parents driven to taking extreme measures… But, what’s your take on JCPS parents lying WITHIN district to attend another school? JCPS will tell you all schools are “the same”,”equitable”, and all teach the core curriculum. (Before you respond, keep in mind that those lying re: their residency, by doing so, are possibly taking up a spot from a resides student.) Should they be punished if found out? Receive jail time?

First of all lets states some facts!!!
This guy is lying and stealing from the taxpayers. His reasons are not important, its fraud. Second, the JCPS system and busing sucks and all students in the district suffer from an inferior system. Third, you can solve the problem of poor performing schools by forcing teachers to work in those schools. We spend 60 Million on gas for our buses. shorten the trip, get rid of all the worthless admin people and give the money to the teachers that make a difference. If the parents in those areas were allowed to be involved, they are not allowed to be involved today, in the school closest to their home they would be more involved and the results would be huge, not to mention immediate. Diversification is a ruse !!! The reason for busing was to give ALL children the opportunity at a great education. The results have proven that the busing plan is a failure. Go back to great teachers at poor schools and get rid of the poor teaches and results will follow. Class is out!!

This guy is guilty of theft by deception. The JCPS spends about 11K/yr per pupil. One has to suspect that Oldham County does about the same. Thus, if this guy illegally sent his kid to OCPS, he stole 88K from the citizens of Oldham County. Since Jake makes issues over the nickles and dimes stolen in local government (as perhaps he should), this guy is every bit as guilty and on an order of magnitude, done far worse.
I sent two kids to private school from K through 12. I helped the taxpayers of Jefferson County avoid over a quarter-million dollars in school costs. Other than believing I deserve a hearty “thank you” from the taxpayers, as a taxpayer who understands what it’s like being ripped off, I believe that OC should prosecute this guy to the fullest extent of the law. Judy Green probably didn’t steal 88K from JC taxpayers. While I believe she should be rode out of office on a rail and prosecuted and hit for restitution, I think that fair is fair…if we’re going after public figures who are thieves, we should go after private citizens with the same zeal.
Good for you, OC. I didn’t want my kids subjected to the bravo sierra that is our public schools, so I ponied up my 10K per pupil per year to avoid it. He should have done the same.

guess the shotgun houses in smoketown, shelby park and the california neighborhood don’t matter as much to preservation louisville and FOX-41…?

pretty sure the SOS effort is about *all* of louisville’s shotguns.
the article said ‘including’ the neighborhoods listed, not ‘limited to’.
there are plenty of places to find things that are actually offensive without inventing offenses. it’s an important iniative that will succeed based on how many of us buy in; no benefit in leaving anyone out.
