Collective Sigh Of Relief: She’s Finally Locked Up

You know what’s ironic? Terry Holliday tweeting stories about his pals in Maryland while Steve Imhoff complains about this website to anyone who will listen. He doesn’t complain about the C-J, which later reported the same thing.  [Twitter]

Solar power may already rival coal – allegedly – prompting an installation surge. Here’s wishing. [Bloomberg]

Passport Health Plan is doing the right thing by dropping its fight to keep its records secret. Good move for building public trust. [Debby Yetter]

Greg Fischer appointed three new members to the Metro Sewer District board: Yvonne Hatfield, James Craig and Tom Austin. Two out of three contributed to his mayoral campaign, according to the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance. Can you guess the two? [WFPL]

David Williams and Richie Farmer are hitting the television with the first campaign ad of the season. [Page One]

Metro Animal Services gave a woman’s dog away after the agency knew she wanted him. Wayne Zelinsky was director when it all went down. And you wonder why staffers drop like flies. [WHAS11]

UPDATE @ 10:50 A.M.: LMAS folks finally got back to me. According to sources who hate us and like us, the dog was in pitiful shape when LMAS received it. Nails were curled under its paw pads, the former owner allegedly admitted to not having had it to see a veterinarian in ages. Could definitely be argued that the dog is better off in a different home.

Karen Sypher has finally reported to federal prison. How will she cope with not being able to have press conferences at gas stations every five minutes? Hopefully the world will never know. [WAVE3]

So… maybe it’s not a good idea to shop at Kroger in PRP for a week or two. Just a hunch. [FOX41]

David Foster Wallace is being celebrated at Carmichael’s on Frankfort Avenue and you should take note. What a treasure of a book store. [Consuming Louisville]

Public meetings to discuss proposed changes to the Ohio River Bridges Debacle will be held in June. In other words, the Bridges “Authority” will yell at anyone asking questions. [C-J/AKN]

Lexington Mayor Jim Gray met with the mayor of Atlanta to discuss budgets. Has Greg Fischer met with anyone to discuss managing a city budget? Not a slight, a genuine question. [H-L]

The Commissioner seems to do a awful lot of twittering–when does he work?

    “From One Con to Another”

Karen: “Can I have Bobby’s number in Alabama?”
Felner: “Ditto–what’s hers in Florida? I love blonds, though she’s a trifle old.”

Everyone knows I have a healthy degree of contempt for the Bridges Authority, but I don’t know of any instance where they yelled at anyone asking questions. Please school me if I’m wrong.

Do you take every single thing you read on this site literally and without a hint of sarcasm, ever?

  • 5 Steve Magruder // Apr 7, 2011 at 12:40 pm

Do you react so strongly every time somebody replies with an honest comment and may decide never to drop by again because of the sheer rudeness that is exhibited by your snippy responses?

    HAHA. What?

How is that a strong and rude reaction? It’s the same humorous thing I always say on this 99% sarcastic site…? You’re a regular reader and are aware of that. There are dozens of instances wherein you have pointed that very thing out to others, if I’m not mistaken.

Dept. of Get What You Pay For:

KarenTheInnocent did not have to pay her “attorneys” very much cause they copied HER DEFENSE arguments straight from Wikipedia!
And the Judge caught it & scolded them. Now it’s circulating thru the law blogs.

What a freaking circus that group is. What was it people from outside KY say about us?

  • 8 The Highlander // Apr 7, 2011 at 9:23 pm

Tall Guy: Sypher’s case may have been a ‘circus’ and she may be a slut — and for sure she embarrassed our city and state. But the individual whose conduct was MOST REPREHENSIBLE has skated free with a $3.5mm bonus — namely the coach who’s jokingly referred to as “Fifteeno.” The fact that the President of the local university (if it can be called that) did not determine that Fifteeno’s conduct did not result in a violation of the morals clause in Fifteeno’s contract is ‘beyond comprehension.’ That decision, Mr. Tall Guy, was BY FAR the most embarrassing thing that occurred in this little ‘sexy-time’ as Jake calls it.

There is not a credible university in this country that would not have fired a coach for the conduct that Fifteeno exhibited at that restaurant that evening and all the ‘cover-up’ that he participated in and directed for all the years after that.

    Preposterous.

“The Game the Cards Play to the Hilt”

Right on, Highlander. JR kept Fifteeno on because of one golden word that stuck in his mind: MONEY. That is the name of the real game of uppermost import at the UofL.

Novena: Is that what happens when you’re born/raised in Fern Creek and become obsessed w/money, when you never had any, and still don’t because you’re in a job that’s far beyond your capabilities? I’ll answer that question — “Yes”

  • 11 Paul Jason Puckett // Apr 8, 2011 at 12:33 pm

    What’s wrong with Fern Creek?

  • 12 Novena // Apr 8, 2011 at 1:48 pm

    “Absolution for Fern Creek”

No, I doubt Fern Creek was to blame for JR’s vacuousness. Like so many modern-day university honchos, his background is narrow and rather limited to budget matters (why he still begs for money without accountability?). He is not a full-blown academician. And (if all the scandals are any measure), he does not view the university as having any special moral mission. In the end, he is a “bucks for wherever the money is” kind of guy.
