What do you think of Jerry Abramson Jr? He’s your new mayor. I’m still shocked that Fischer didn’t win by more. I said all along that he’d win, but I thought it’d be by more. And how crazy is it that Lexington got an openly gay mayor before Louisville? [Deep Mayoral Thoughts]
Here’s how things went down last night as Hal Heiner eventually decided to concede the race to Greg Fischer. [WAVE3]
What was that, again, about Todd Lally beating John Yarmuth? Guess Louisville’s voters – even conservative Republicans – don’t like extremists like that. [Deep Yarmuth Thoughts]
Seriously – are we the only folks who find the massive four million gallons of sewage spilled into the Ohio River rather interest-piquing? Seems like this sort of thing happens on a regular basis and everyone just shrugs their shoulders. [WHAS11]
Rand Paul is Kentucky’s new teabagger overlord. Jack Conway lost, thanks in large part to his consultant, Mark Riddle, (who is 0 for 2 for the night). The entire world is abuzz with the teapocalypse. [Raw Story, Mercury News, NPR, WSJ, Salon, HuffPo, Bluegrass Politics, NY Times]
Someone maybe finally bought the Colgate plant. No one knows who, though. [FOX 41]
What does the future hold for Mid-City Mall? Here’s your chance to share some input. [Urban Design Studio]
Best line of text from a newsie last night: Conway offered his congratulations from his loser’s party, held at Louisville’s downtown Marriott hotel, where the mood suggests a Cure album is going to be played at any moment… [FatLip]

So the most important question in Louisville remains….Where did you go to high school? And the second will remain…So, where are kids moving to when they graduate from college?

People have been telling me for years that Lexington is actually much less parochial than Louisville. Evidence continues to mount in their favor.
It will be interesting to see over time if the answer to BB’s second question ever becomes Lexington. Louisville isn’t even competing well in its own state. That process started a long time ago, though, when Lexington had the foresight to not put the interstate through the middle of downtown neighborhoods.
The city had a chance to break that cycle yesterday and instead chose to continue it. I used to work pretty hard to convince some very bright students to stay here and apply their talents – not any more. I can’t blame people for choosing to break out and work for themselves when they’ve been handcuffed by a self-serving cartel and an ignorant electorate for so long.

Totally agree Jeff about the young people here needing to break out. If you’re 20 to 40, its time to look elsewhere. With the Republicans out to dismantle Social Security, etc, you better expect to work until you’re 70 and thats what the Paultards are all about. So with that said, maybe its time for all of us people with talents and desire to head on down the road. The city could do so much better but I guess some people want us to remain as backwards and non progressive as most of the rest of KY. Even the folks in Lexington of all places at least have enough sense to realize that being backwards isn’t such a good thing. A lot of Louisville residents don’t seem to get that.

Nice posts! Every young college person I know dreams about moving to Chicago, San Francisco or New York. At the end of the month all the T&A places will close down showng that Louisville is less free than other places. Thanks to Grandma’s on the council.
