Why’d Fischer Try To Hide His Finance Report?

June 25th, 2010 by jake · 4 Comments

It’s no secret that Greg Fischer is going out of his way to be less than transparent with campaign finance reporting. And he didn’t want his information as readily available as Hal Heiner’s.

But who cares, right? I have Fischer’s report, anyway. So let’s take a look.

  • $23,388.76 cash on hand
  • $172,960.12 spent
  • $162,501.54 raised (including $75K from Fischer himself)
  • $155,000 total debts & obligations

Notable contributions:

  • Dave Armstrong $1,000
  • Bob Babbage $500
  • Sonny Bass $250
  • Carl Bensinger $400
  • Jonathan Blum $500
  • Nicole Candler $100
  • Larry Clark $250
  • Ed Hamilton $200
  • Denise Harper Angel $100
  • Vince Jackson $250
  • Charlie Miller $500
  • Ed Perry $250
  • Chris Poynter $250
  • Lil Press $100
  • Pat Roles $100
  • Steve Wilson $1,000
  • Mimi Zinniel $250

Notable disbursements:

  • $8,535.14 on events & catering
  • $114,907.42 on advertising
  • $5,000 primary win bonus to media buyer
  • $33,685.92 on staff
  • $2,122.18 for web, telephone/communication, office
  • $1,423.86 on printing
  • $6,000 primary win bonus to pollster

You folks can accuse me of needlessly attacking Fischer. You can spin all you want about how this report is available by driving to Frankfort. But it’s clear Fischer didn’t want this information to be readily available for public consumption for whatever reason.

What is the big deal! The editor carries (for some strange reason) a personal vendetta against Fischer which is clouding his journalistic integrity. You clearly demonstrated your prejudice on WHAS radio giving very poor commentary regarding your predictions of the spring primary ignoring the public’s reaction to the King negative campaign. (Boy, were you wrong!) I read your site several times a week, because I really enjoy it…however your true journalism skills comes into question discussing Fisher. You are no different than Fox News reporting on Democrats…no objectivity! Please harness yourself and be a better JOURNALIST.

It’s hilarious to me that Will, Brandon and Lynn think they can comment without being discovered.

And it’s interesting that they attempt to willingly mislead those who read comments on this site. Though, regular readers know my distaste with Greg Fischer lies with Greg’s level of dishonesty and his ridiculous behavior as he has turned into a career politician running for whatever office he thinks he can win.

Really? I guess Jim King didn’t jump in the polls – up from 4% in Fischer’s own polling – to 18%. Yeah, so totally wrong, I was.

I’m not a journalist. That’s a term I eschew on an almost daily basis.

I will admit out front that I am not a fan of Fischer due to a my personal experience with him years ago. That said, the cash on hand figure is pretty striking in comparison with Heiner’s war chest. Given that Fischer is the Louisville establishment candidate, and he had to fund approximately 40% of his raised cash, it spells trouble for him.

Heiner escaped the primary pretty much unscathed by negativity. He ran a positive campaign and I would doubt carries a lot of negatives into the general election.

Given those obstacles, it appears that baring some unforeseen scandal or late development, Fisher is going to need a hell of a lot of money to drop of advertising to try and shape Heiner’s image. Not having enough money on hand to buy a Honda Accord, isn’t going to go far in getting that task accomplished.

Should be interesting if Greg is going to pony up the big personal bucks to fill in the funding gap. Should give some insight into his confidence at winning in November.
