More On Fischer “Inventing” An Ice Machine

April 9th, 2010 by jake · 5 Comments

Nearly a year ago I delivered a giant research book to Greg Fischer. It was essentially an outline of issues that would come to haunt him in the then-pending mayoral race.

He never took me seriously, apparently, and now the research chickens are coming home to roost.

He cannot say I didn’t give him ample time to address these matters with me.

Last week I questioned Greg Fischer’s proclaimed “invention” – a fancy ice machine. You can read all about that by clicking here:

According to court documents, SerVend Distributors, Inc. (Jerry Landers) invented the ice machine. Then George Fischer (Greg’s dad) purchased the company. Greg’s name does appear as a co-inventor – not inventor – on U.S. Patent No. 4,641,763, a dispensing apparatus. And it appears his name was appended to the original patent. But for the 13 other patents SerVend holds for the ice dispenser? Fischer’s name doesn’t appear as an inventor. Jerry Landers’ does.

To further question Fischer’s claim that he invented an ice dispenser, let’s look to a February 1982 lawsuit filed by EPI Corporation against SerVend International, Inc.

Excerpt:

3. The plaintiff and a predecessor corporation to the defendant, SerVend Distributors, Inc., an Indiana corporation, on march 16, 1977 entered into a Purchase Agreement wherein plaintiff acquired various rights and assets with respect to SerVend Distributors, Inc., one of which was to acquire an ownership interest in U.S. Patent No. 3,858,765, which was owned by SerVend Distributors, Inc.

-SNIP-

4. That SerVend Distributors, Inc. the predecessor corporation of the defendant, did at all times pertinent hereto have and exercised ownership and good title to and exclusive rights to manufacture and market an ice dispenser machine under U.S. Patent No. 3,858,765.

5. That the defendant did by contract and other legal processes, the details of which are unknown to plaintiff, acquire the assets and liabilities of SerVend Distributors, Inc. Further, defendant is and has been since said acquisition, manufacturing an ice dispenser machine as described in and pursuant to the rights granted by the U.S. Patent No. 3,858,765 and is selling said products and machines to the public or others.

What was that, again, about Fischer inventing an ice machine?

A third-party complaint was eventually filed by EPI Corporation against SerVend International, Inc. and Citizens Bank & Trust Company of Jeffersonville, Indiana that sheds a bit more light on whether or not Greg was the “inventor” of that ice machine:

2. That on May 30, 1980, Citizens Bank and Trust Company sold assets of Servend Distributors, Inc., to George Fischer, owner and President of Defendant, Servend International, Inc.

-SNIP-

4. That George Fischer formed Servend International, Inc., a Kentucky Corporation, in order to use said assets.

So those rumors about Greg’s dad buying the company and then passing it off to him? Check.

The gossip that Greg didn’t really invent that ice machine? Check and check.

You can expect more where this came from. And I’m not even talking about the thousands he has given to Republicans like Anne Northup. His family’s strong Republican ties. Or his long-held practice of union busting.

I used to work with Greg and his Family. He invented the combination beverage and ice despenser. If you are going to throw rocks, at least be on target. SMH

    That’s not correct.

    Click the links.

Greg’s merely a co-inventor. And there’s documentation that leads one to believe that’s only because he paid to be.

Again, as I was told by Greg, what he did was combine the ice machine with the soda fountain that you see at fast food outlets and convenient stores.
That generated the interest for sales/growth and ultimately the sale of the company for profit.

If Greg would just go off and fish with his brothers, Louisville would be better.

Payne’s numbers and the FEC’s numbers do not match. According to the FEC, Fischer’s only donations to Northup were $250 on 10/08/1998 and $350.00 on 10/03/2000. That equals hundreds, not thousands. Maybe Payne knows something the FEC (and the Northup campaign) don’t. If so, he should let us know.

Anyone can look up donations at the Federal Election Commission website, http://www.fec.gov. If you checks under Greg Fischer, you;ll find he has given more money to Democrats and the Democratic Party than any other candidate.

$1000 to Yarmuth in ‘07, ‘08, and ‘09; $250 to Heather Ryan in ‘08; $1000 to Boswell in ‘08; $250 to the DNC in ‘09; $15,750 to the KDP in ‘07, ‘08, and ‘09; $5000 to the Kentucky Victory Fund (Federal account) in ‘07; $7300 to Obama in ‘08; and $5000 to the Obama Victory Fund in ‘o8.

There’s been a lot of talk of Jim King throwing money around in this race. But he hasn’t thrown any to any Democrats other than himself lately. No other candidate for mayor has given the kind of dollars Fischer has to Democrats.

If Payne can’t get these numbers straight off an FEC webpage correct, why should we trust him to get the icemachine story correct?

Fischer didn’t start really giving to Democrats until he started running for the U.S. Senate. See here.

I’m not sure if you folks read before commenting, but the above linked story details those two Northup contributions. Along with other Republicans (same for other links). His family has a strong Republican contribution history.

So I’m not sure where you get off suggesting I have something incorrect?

I love that the Fischer folks (usually Lisa Tanner, someone who solicited employment from Jim King before getting a better deal from Greg Fischer, and Will Carle) automatically assume I’m supporting Jim King. Anybody worth their weight would know I lean toward a female candidate and don’t support any male in the race.
