A couple of Greg Fischer’s campaign staffers spent most of yesterday telling everybody from PRP to Frankfort that Jim King was dropping out of the mayoral race because of his son’s health condition. Wonder how ridiculous they feel now that the entirety of the press know that’s not the case and that JCTA endorsed him? That’s a naaaasty trick, Greg, and I hope you realize what your staffers are doing. A couple members of the press can back me up on this one, too. [Just Saying]

I’m with you on how charging for a forum defeats the purpose. If they wanted to restrict their attendance to blue-bloods, I don’t understand why they didn’t just host it at the Louisville Country Club, and put it in the newsletter?

Re affordable housing:
Can anyone explain to me why Sec. 8 housing seems to cost MORE than so-called market-rate housing? In my limited experience, an apartment that usually rents, say, for $475/mo. jumps to $650/mo. once it agrees to Sec. 8. I think a landlord sometimes has to make a few simple repairs/improvements to “qualify” as Sec. 8, such as handrails or window repairs. But overall it would seem the landlord benefits from the security of KNOWING that their tenant is actually able to PAY the rent each month.

I think $25 is quite a nominal fee, and doesn’t necessarily shut out most who really want to attend.

Gtown – because unfortunately, Section 8 folks tend to leave the property in much worse condition. One neighbor of mine who rents Section 8 had half his house burned down because of a stupid action by the tenant – and only a quick response from the fire department saved it at all.
