We’re Not The Only City With Education Corruption

March 1st, 2010 by jake · 5 Comments

Remember Robert Felner’s partner in crime, Thomas Schroeder? He gets to keep his position as president of a school board. Despite a federal indictment. Despite a clear cut role in, you know, defrauding schools. Good job, Riverdale, Illinois. [Quad-City Times]

The stalled Legacy Lofts project is about to see new life in downtown. Check out the photos and read all about it. The hideous color scheme is out (taupe, though? ugh), thankfully. All gays and people of taste rejoice! It’s just too bad no normal folks will be able to afford any of the units. [Broken Sidewalk]

Really? This is news in the U.S. Senate race? [WHAS11]

Hey, lawyer-types, read up on this crazy story of a law firm and medical clinic allegedly trading clientele. [Andy Wolfson]

St. Louis-based Paul Harris will be on the air this week filling the spot once held by Francene at 84WHAS. Every morning I wake up hoping to hear that Joe Elliott has been given that midday slot. But Harris is a great host. [Paul Harris]

$1.75 million. That’s what the city plans to spend on the planning and design of a southwest library. [C-J]

Some people think Jim Bunning should be locked away in a home. Some people think he’s a genius for starving Kentuckians to death. What do you think? [FatLip]

Greg Stumbo was for higher education budget cuts before he was against them, or something? The amount of flip-flopping and all-around mess this legislative session is tough to keep track of. [H-L]

Louisville takes the top two spots in AmericanStyle’s best art fairs list. Kentucky Crafted, The Market and St. James Court Art Show. [WFPL]

Paul Harris just like Tom Rose is a joke and WHAS should be appalled for making the listeners think their local host is really in Louisville while their actually not.

WHAS should do the right think and put Joe on Midday.

It’s like our governments, it makes too much sense so it won’t happen.

It’s unbelievable that after all of the negative press “The Serious Attorneys” have gotten in the past few years, they will continue to prey on unsophisticated victims unchecked.

It’s not a coincidence that you see a significantly greater number of ambulance-chaser advertisements in the south and west ends of Louisville or advertised during daytime shows.

I would love to see more articles like Mr. Wolfson’s calling out the shady business practices of firms like theirs. It’s a shame that many honest and competent personal injury attorneys are now being forced to advertise to compete with the slick firms who are gaming the system for quick profits.

I don’t know that we need tort caps as much as some mechanism to force attorneys to have a little more skin the game for filing frivolous law suits. There is a reason that in countries where the loser pays, those societies are far less litigious than ours. There has to be a way to deter these kinds of firms from gaming the system, without taking away the rights of a victim who has truly been injured.

the link to the C-J article about the library didn’t work. don’t know if you including this is meant to be critical but, if the project is likely to cost $15m or more, $1.75m for design and planning is pretty normal. it’s not just making pretty pictures!

a 21c library is a complicated project. integrating all of the systems of a current library, coordination of everything, and oversight thru construction are huge tasks – more hours and commitment on the part of the architects and engineers than most people might expect. and, at 40k sf, this is a large facility.

it’s a good sign that this might go ahead soon. means more good work for local contractors in a year or so!

Unbelievable that so-called “educators” – people chosen to oversee the education of children residing in their district – should be so naive or sheltered or oblivious or unconcerned or, well, UNEDUCATED as to almost BRAG that they are not keeping up with current events that involve one of their own or that it could impact the integrity of their Board. Perhaps too lazy to want to “search” for a qualified replacement for Schroeder?

Who was that woman on WHAS last week? She was terrible! When she had John Yarmuth on her show, she kept refuting him with folksy sayings from her mother. Yuck.
