The Kentucky Young Democrats just announced that Louisville will play host city for the 2011 Young Democrats of America (YDA) National Convention.
According to the KYDs, the next year will be spent planning the entire conference and developing a schedule that will put Louisville – and the rest of Kentucky – on full display for attendees. The event will include campaign education sessions, breakout groups for policy discussions, a gala dinner and several evening recreational opportunities.
“The Kentucky delegation’s commitment to the future of Young Democrats of America and hard work in preparing their bid showcases just how ideal Kentucky is as a location for the 2011 conference,” said Crystal Strait, President of the Young Democrats of America.
According to Kentucky Democratic Party chairman Charlie Moore, the KYDs were aggressive in their bid for the convention. “This is a great time for Louisville. Young Democrats from all across the nation will be coming to Louisville for this conference. This will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase Kentucky.”
Kentuckian Colmon Elridge, vice-president of the YDA, said, “[h]osting the YDA National Convention in Louisville will showcase for our voters the enthusiasm and energy behind our party’s vision for America.” Regardless of your political leanings, no one can argue that it’s a good thing for the city.
The Convention is set to be held July 27 – 31, 2011 at the Galt House. Organizers expect 2,000 people from across the country to attend the five-day event.
