You know, there are a lot of things I can say about Judge Katie King. There are a lot of things I’ve already said that probably made her election in 2008 and her current professional life a nightmare. But I’ll say this: I’ve only met one person who says she’s a bad judge (I’ve spent a lot of days talking to folks about her) – and that person is a terrible lawyer with an apparent drug problem who told me he once tried to date Katie. Jim Green (her opponent), on the other hand? I’m not hearing anything nice – especially not from the FOP and other organizations. I’m not sure what this means – and I cannot believe I’m writing this – but I think it means she’s a good judge. Everybody I speak with thinks she’ll waltz into re-election without problem. Guess she wasn’t lying when she said she’d work hard. [WFPL]

Am I the only one who finds a Titanic Party being held from the impact to the sinking a little twisted?
Are there going to be door prizes given away at times to correspond to the rupture of hull, the first boiler explosion, when the first child sucked in a good gulp of icy seawater?
I think they should just go ahead and parlay this concept into a year-long series. Why don’t they have a Gordon Lightfoot concert and Edmond Fitzgerald party. Why not have a Coconut Grove ball, or a MGM Grand casino night, and top it off with a Christmas Day Tsunami beach party?

Head’s up-the New Roots link isn’t working up there…also, in the interest of relevance, it should be noted that mayoral candidate Lisa Moxley is on their board.

I am not an attorney but find myself at the courthouse ever now and then for my company. Even when Judge King worked in the County Attorneys office I have found her very helpful with the average Joe/Willy navigate the court system. Time will tell if she continues to be a good Judge but I think everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves.

I’m sorta in the same boat on the KK story — I slammed her election as the worst sort of “Daddy buys his baby a judgeship.” If she has actually turned out to be even a halfway-decent judge, I will publicly say I was wrong. Not about the gift from her dad, which I still think was probably unethical and certainly unseemly, but about her bona fides for that role.
Here’s hoping she is indeed a hard-working, fair, knowledgeable, effective judge.
Keep us posted on what you hear, Jake.
