Tom Owen Wants to Be Councilcritter President

December 11th, 2009 by jake · 13 Comments

Metro Councilcritter Tom Owen just announced his intention to run for President of the Metro Council in 2010…

Dear Council Colleagues:

I want to be your Metro Council President for 2010.

Over the seven year life of our Council, we have been blessed with effective leadership from both political caucuses.

Over the next few days, I will speak directly with you to get your ideas for our Council in a year that we will be tested by persistent budget shortfalls, a Metro executive who will be vacating the office at the end of the year, and several of our colleagues distracted by Mayoral campaigns.

I believe that in this time of testing my fifteen years of legislative experience plus my temperament may well serve our Council well. I am ready to go at the work with energy, equanimity, and breadth. From edge-to-edge, I know our community and believe that I am highly qualified to steer our Council ship thru unsettled waters. I am capable of being a committed listener and ultimately a direct and unwavering leader.

We need someone as President of the Council that isn’t interested in keeping the city prehistoric as it is becoming these days. Seems that a good part of the Metro Council needs to be voted out anyway. Especially after all the mess that the Abramson regime and his backers have left us.

Call me crazy… but… uh… do we have anyone on council fitting those criteria?

U are exactly right….most of them need to be outsted. Need to have some strong, progressive, intelligent members that aren”t controlled or intimidated by anyone< that will work for those that voted them in!

At this point, why worry about progressives or conservatives?

    I’d settle for honesty.

I’d like to see honesty, transparency, and not being expedient with serious decisions.

So, I heard Owen was retiring. Guess that’s not true anymore.

As Abramson becomes more of a lame duck you will see more scandals emerge in the next year. In fact now that Steven George is almost gone Jake will be reporting some great stories next year that he doesn’t even know about yet. (packages with documents will arrive in time Jake)

Tom will be the voice of reason. He is one of the few council critters respected by the Metro employees, republican caucus members and as a plus he has Terra. Abramson did a lot of damage to this government and Tom can start the healing process.

Rico: email me if you need our P.O. Box info.

Hm. I’m a little curious — what does Jake’s reporting have to do with me?

Rico, “did” a lot of damage? I’m afraid the process is still ongoing.

I interviewed Tom for an article I did last year for the Louisville Cardinal, and I believe he’d be a great fit for the council. He’s practically a walking encyclopedia of Louisville, with a profound understanding of the city’s people and history. I just really believe he has Louisville’s best interests at heart.
