Today Gas Station Governor Steve Beshear announced the award of nearly $800,000 from the Victims of Crime Act grants from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Organizations across the Commonwealth received funds for programs including Court Appointed Special Advocates, domestic violence shelters and children’s advocacy centers.
Three organizations in the Louisville area received funds:
- CASA of Jefferson County – CASA of the River Region Expansion – $33,433
- Home of the Innocents – Crime Victim Services for Aftercare Program – $39,999
- Jefferson County Attorney’s Office – Domestic Violence Intake Center – $70,000

“Recipients of these vital services represent some of the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable citizens – victims of violent crime – who rely on these organizations to help them navigate the criminal justice system and begin the healing process,” said Gov. Steve Beshear. “These funds will enable the recognized programs to hire new employees, provide services, and purchase vital equipment and supplies that would otherwise be impossible in the present economic situation.”
That’s good news for the big city. And better news for the rest of the state.
