Even More Sad Journalism News

November 30th, 2009 by jake · 3 Comments

Told you earlier in the month that the Associated Press laid star reporter Joe Biesk off.

Now sources close to the AP tell us that Ann Gibson will work her final day for the AP this week.

And the Kentucky & Tennessee bureaus are being combined.

That IS bad news. The more we lose full-time reporters, the more the crooks and crazies can get away with. Blogs and “citizen journalism” help fill some of the gap, but not all. Take away the yellow journalism practiced by some, and the gap gets even bigger. Not good.

Blogs and the internets can’t fill in all the gaps, you’re right. At least not in Kentuckiana.

I worked for Ann for a number of years. She was a wonderful boss and a good journalist. That bureau has good people to try and pick up the slack but at some point it becomes too much. Joe Biesk is a huge loss as well. I have no idea how the staffers there are able to keep going through all of this.
