Elitism isn’t exclusive to a political party. Kristol, Krauthammer, Coulter, and Carlson are all elitists.

My point is that there was a coordinated effort amongst the media elite and particularly proponents of government spending and healthcare, to discredit the Tea Party Protesters this summer by painting them as angry racists, who were going to incite violence and possibly even threaten the safety of the president.

This was done through the focus of the few idiots carrying guns and racist signs at the protests. The death of the census worker was supposed to be the affirmation of that storyline. The dead worker was the “see I told you they were dangerous” proof they were preaching.

Several months later, we find out the death was a suicide. In fact, it was likely done in manner that he knew would be greedily embraced by those preaching the warnings of anti-government violence. He gave them the raw meat for which they were yearning.

Months later, it turns out the death was a suicide and the widespread violence many predicting never manifested itself. Not unlike the mea culpas.

Mark H – I’m not commenting on the story and I’m not kidding myself about anything. I’m commenting on using hackneyed buzzwords from the Rush Limbaugh dictionary. Calling someone with whom you disagree an “elite” is from the right-wing playbook. I don’t know your politics and don’t really care, but you should know that using the phrase marks you as a righty. It’s like this – Limbaugh, Palin, Beck, OReilly, Fox & Friends etc – they’re “like us,” just plain old, hard working folks who see the world the way it really is. But those lefty folks, they are “elites.”

As someone who is from Eastern Kentucky, I think it is a fair assumption that many folks in that neck of the woods are ignorant, government-hating racists.

But not all are guilty of those backwater ways.

If you think that any one of the NY or DC media people who covered this story didn’t jump on the stereotype that the people of Eastern KY are a bunch of ignorant government-hating racists, you’re kidding yourself.

The closest any of them have been to Appalachia is a weekend stay at the Greenbrier.

If the moniker fits…..How else would describe Matthews and Maddow? I sure as hell wouldn’t describe them as non-elites.

Actually, I am not a ditto head. In fact, I rarely listen to Rush because he just beats the same point into the ground over and over. I usually listen to Sirius news channels or Dennis Miller because of his show is topically diverse and he genuinely seems to enjoy speaking to his callers.

Mark H: Yup. I knew enough, as an Eastern Kentuckian, to be suspicious. And it’s turned out to be a story more sad than the public knew in the beginning.

You’re probably right about disappearing, for the most part. Folks are usually never seen again.

I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for Matthews and Maddow to admit they were wrong in correlating the Tea Party anti-government movement to this man’s death.

As I think Jake instinctively knew from the beginning, this didn’t seem like a Tea Party/Glen Beck-induced murder given the area and the overt “Fed” reference.

While I’m not from Eastern Kentucky, I have spent a lot of time there and the people are far too clever to invite that kind of government attention into their community. The man would have simply disappeared and nobody would know anything about it.

I think the national elitist media bought into the racist, redneck, anti-government stereotype and cast there judgment. besides is fit perfectly into the movement to paint Tea Party activists as dangerous.
