Draper, Cain Leaving WHAS11?

November 19th, 2009 by jake · 20 Comments

We hear through the grapevine that Kyle Draper (going to Comcast in Boston – not sure how we missed that one/maybe we reported this previously?) and Chase Cain (moving to Los Angeles to be an actor?) are leaving WHAS11.

Also hear Dick Irby is leaving FOX41 for a move to Arkansas.

The real question is….will anyone notice?

WDRB will now be officially “Dickless.”

    How dare you!

    That is NOT true.

    The Taminator is still there.

Well, we’ll actually miss Dick Irby. As for the rest, zzzzzzz.

Come on. Kyle Draper is awesome.

    And so is Beyonce.

Just more of the mass media churn. People moving up to other places that are more interesting and offer better pay and career opportunity.

Can’t say I blame them because if you can make the money, then why not?

    People still watch broadcast news?

EDITOR’S NOTE: All racist comments will be deleted.

WHAS will probably just let the weekend sports guy take over. Then hire a female weekend anchor.

  • 10 Michael // Nov 19, 2009 at 1:04 pm

Yes, I know the weekend anchor is allegedly a woman.

I love Kyle Draper – he’s a thorough reporter with a unique spin, and his enthusiasm is contagious. I’m sorry to hear he’s going, but he’s earned a bigger gig. Good luck in Beantown, Kyle – please keep rooting for the Cards!

Chase Cain has been cast as “Herbie, the Elf who wants to be a Dentist” in the live action re-make of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

“I don’t want to be a reporter… I want to be a Dehntisst” Come on, you know you can see it.

    Arkansas?

Kyle Draper has done a credible job for WHAS-11…enthusiastic and genuine…he’ll be missed.

    Dick Irby…Louisville’s loss.

Good luck to you both in your new ventures.

    Chase Cain…who ?

It took me a while to “warm up” to Kyle Draper. I first thought he was some kinda buffoon – until he participated in a fund-raising basketball game. Then I began to see him as a real “team player” with enthusiasm for the sport stories he was reporting. I will miss his presence here; but I think he IS “from the North” – which means he should be a heckuva lot closer to his family.

I was thrilled when WDRB hired Dick Irby. He’s done some real “eye-openers.” Too many veteran reporters no longer on the scene…

Irby: total pro. Will be missed.

Draper: Enthusiastic, yes. Deep story breaker, no. I’m sure he’s a more than nice guy, but he never struck me as an intuitive reporter whose insider knowledge illuminated what he was covering. Love to have him as my neighbor, but won’t miss him on the job.

Don’t even want to see more of Danielle: monotone delivery, poor reader.

Cain: Annoying for rating’s sake. I admire his taking a tough stance, but I never liked his approach.

Dear Editor…..My previous was not meant to be racist or demeaning based on his race. Sheesh….

So, let me get this straight: My comment about him was racist, but the two Michael’s comments after mine saying that there will be another woman on the broadcast is NOT implying a sexist attitude? In other words, that’s ok? If so, you have a serious double standard going on…..

Bottom line, I’ve never liked Kyle’s reporting capabilities and it has NOTHING to do with his race. WHAS made a tremendous mistake not keeping Gary Gupton….

Are you serious? The Guppie being the best sports caster. I remember when he was at Highview when they had the big Justice Sunday event.

They didn’t want the media trying to interview people that attended the rally. The reason they said was to make sure they were a member of the congregation before allowing anyone to speak.

In that case, it seems to me that it would have been a good thing to just go off the property and have some interviews.

Churches are a strange thing, they want you to accept their ideas or beliefs but anyone who doesn’t follow their line of thinking is either intolerant or anti religion

Chris: You specifically mentioned race/the color of Draper’s skin.

There was no specific attack on gender despite a comment that is somewhat ignorant.

Kyle Draper did a wonderful job. I noticed he has been on air less and less,
Wonder why the station didnt make an announcement.
