Its funny how they are so "serious" about this hotel louisville property, yet they are still pursuing the Mercy Academy property in court.

GM has had to pay taxes for years and hasn't made a penny. You legally can't operate as a hotel and be tax exempt. Regardless of what you charge. The IRS is funny that way.

Mark H: How can she be turning a profit at a penny a night? Besides, I want to see ANYBODY with enough Scrooge DNA in their gene pool to go down there and toss out homeless folks into the cold right before Christmas.

THAT'S some media attention Maywhore Abramson doesn't want to see on the news!

I admire her for wanting to help, too. But we are a society of laws, and I feel like she's putting her whole program at risk by pulling this. As others have said, does she have the proper insurance should something happen? There's a right way and a wrong way to get attention. I'm afraid this is the wrong way.

I understand her desires and will take her at her word that it isn't about her, but her stunt raises a few questions:

1) Does operating a for-profit hotel jeopardize Wayside's tax-exempt status?

2) Is she paying the room taxes required?

3) Did she obtain the occupancy permits for hotel usage from the fire department, etc?

4) Is the property properly insured for hotel usage, in which case is she placing the organization at significant financial risk?

5) If the building is an operating hotel, it should the real estate be assessed for property taxes at the same rate as any other hotel in the city for the 2009 year. That could be a really big bill given the purchase price.......

She may have really opened up a financial and liability can of worms with this little stunt, if the City decides to push her on it or something bad happens while she's playing this game.

This is what happens when you have a non-profit service provider acting like a developer.

I gather the Board was not advised about this little stunt. If they were, they should get a new board.

It also speaks about a huge problem in this community and that is no one can get a timely decision out of Charles Cash and Company (aka Planning and Design). Zoning and Land Use Enforcement under Abramson has been severely cut back to almost non-existent.

He eliminated the experienced Zoning Enforcement Officers in a Union Busting move and gave the responsibility to $12 an hour Section 8 Inspectors.

In most cases it's better just to open and if you do get caught take it to court., it's actually faster and less corrupt.

Tom Owen does not have a right to comment. He has known about the problems at IPL and never did anything.

It was on WAVE last night at 11. Apparently they rent regular rooms, too.

I do like the way Mosley keeps forcing the issue. Inadvertently or not, she's keeping the issue of the homeless in the limelight, and this is a good thing.

I admire her cajones, for sure. It may not be perfect or pretty, but it's high time the city pulls its head out of the sewer and understand that we have a serious issue. Homelessness is real, it's growing and it's not "just" the addicts or severely mentally ill....not that any of it is acceptable. It's whole families, children and people who have jobs, too.

Where is the Coalition for the Homeless on this one?
