Was Mayor Jerry Abramson’s son one of the 25 students suspended from Male High School for pranks against Manual?
That’s the hot rumor about town today.
We asked Chris Poynter in the Mayor’s Office if the rumor was true and here’s what he had to say:
“We will have no comment because it’s a private family matter.”
Is that a classic non-denial?
I think if he hadn’t been suspended, the Mayor’s Office would flatly say so.
I agree that it’s a private family matter. But if the son of the Mayor is involved in an activity that could potentially be considered criminal? Then somebody needs to address this issue quickly and honestly.

I have not been a big fan of Mayor Jer for a while now but I don’t think that his son should have to live in a fish bowl because his Father chooses to be mayor. If he made a mistake then he needs to pay for it the same as the other kids. This should remain a private family matter.

You folks can complain and yell at me all day long for bringing this up. It’s not like it’s a secret.
The real story is what I didn’t report from sources within LMPD.

Actually, I disagree Laura… His son has skated in the past… After all he was stopped speeding in a CITY owned car, and given a “reprimand”, when actually by driving the car he had committed THEFT, or at a minimum a fraudulent act for his father to have to cover up… He has been protected after several other incidents as well

I don’t believe he deserves special treatment by any means but I don’t think he should live his life under a microscope either. If he did something wrong he should pay the price. No more, no less.

Totally unrelated to this particular story, I love your site. I come here everyday to check out stories that no one else seems to run. Keep up the wonderful work.

He’s certainly not living under a microscope and it’s silly to suggest that he is. Otherwise, about a bazillion other things would have been reported over the past year.
That said – you’ll not that I did not mention his name in the post out of respect.

Laura– Thanks for the kind words.
To everyone else: let’s avoid any further speculation, k? It’s cool to discuss this particular matter, but let’s leave anything else out of the discussion.

Jake, I am actually an avid reader… I often find the “news” in toehr sources to be less viable. I applaud you guys, LEO and several other news blogs for keeping the “NEWS” in the news

I agree with Laura and Gilbert, thevillevoice.com is my go to site when I want to get the “real story” keep up the good work

The pile of manure in the parking lot at least has a bit of imagination to it. Spray-painting vehicles and equipment is just thuggery.

I approve of the parking lot poo. That was genius.

But was his shirt tucked in and was he wearing a belt while doing the prank? Because at Male, as long as you dress “business casual” things are A-OK.
13 Lepus // Nov 2, 2009 at 2:20 pm
Can you tell I’m still bitter about that dumb ass dress code? College Prep, my ass. My first week in college people showed up in pajamas and (shock, shock) no one cared.

I hope Jerry used Stimulus money to purchase the parking lot poo.
Since it would be considered organic fertilizer, Jerry would able to count the vandalism as a “green job” created by the stimulus.

The Courier Journal editorial board has responded and has a piece blaming the entire incident on Kelly Downard’s kids

LMPD 5th Division is investigating Sydney for wanton endangerment charges from when he pulled alongside another car, while he was driving his dads car with blue lights and police radio inside, and shot a pellet gun at the car next to him on Frankfort Ave. Police soon got a call from the mayors security telling officers not to do anything and it has been pushed under the rug since. This is Louisville politics at its best. BULLSHIT!!

Poor little nameless tyke…can’t be easy watching dad wearing mom’s evening gowns and pearls.
Still, he seems to be following in the privileged footsteps of HRH the Lord Mayor: never take responsibility for your own actions and, if you’re caught, find someone else to blame/cover it up.
Like, when you break into someone’s house and are dumb enough to leave your cell phone behind but dad gets the cops to cover that up, too.

WOW! Double & triple WOW! If his dad wins Lt. Gov., d’ya think the family will do us all a favor & move to Frankfort???
