From the Fairness Campaign yesterday: Just before 3 p.m. today, President Barack Obama signed into law the 2010 National Defense Authorization Act that includes the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Act as an amendment. The bill will expand the 1969 federal hate crime law to include crimes motivated by perceived gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability. The bill passed the Senate last Thursday with a 68-29 vote in favor of the bill; both Kentucky Senators Bunning and McConnell voted against the measure. It passed the House on October 8 with the support of Congressman John Yarmuth, Ben Chandler, and Republican Brett Guthrie. [Press Release]
I’ll whore it out one last time: if you missed me on Francene yesterday, listen to me on the internets. Don’t try to count the number of times I said “apparently” in 15 minutes or your head might explode. HUZZUH! [Jake Was On Francene's Radio Machine]
Think Jerry Abramson is nervous about Richie Farmer mulling a run for governor? [H-L]
While we agree that Jim King is fair game as a candidate, his family is not. The Courier-Journal has already received copies of all court record – provided by Ed Springston’s ghost writing attorney – so we’re wondering why the paper doesn’t just write what it already knows. [C-J]
We’re purposefully ignoring the trans-fat debate, mostly, because it is borderline ridiculous. If people want to be fat and die, let them. [Just Saying]
Will Jerry Abramson’s Metro Government ever get the Affordable Housing Trust Fund up and running? Don’t hold your breath. [Phillip Bailey]
Gone to the dogs. Louisville Metro Animal Services and director Gilles Meloche face a barrage of criticism about how they do business. Guess which fancy pants mayor is once again passing the buck. [Jonathan Meador]
David Williams is a whiny ass titty baby. If he wants to shove Christmas down my throat? I’ve got something he can kiss. Not every Kentuckian worships Jesus and this man needs to offing realize it. Absolutely offensive. The one time Steve Beshear doesn’t screw up and David Williams has to cry about it. [C-J]
Mitch McConnell is STILL complaining about health care reform. He’s still not offering a viable alternative. And he never will. [The Hill]
The Matthew Shepard & James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act was signed into law yesterday. 11 years after the death of Matthew Shepard. [Huffington Post]
Two sealed motions have been filed in the criminal case against Karen Sypher. Her attorney wouldn’t spill the beans, though. One can only imagine just how juicy the details could be. [Andy Wolfson]

Is Jerry Abramson scared of Farmer running for Gov?
I think right now he’s more scared of the blowout from Andy Alcock’s exclusive interview with former Animal Services employee Dawn Simpson’s attorney who filed a sexual harassment suit yesterday in which she contends that Dr. Meloche disclosed he and Jerry had a “close” personal relationship that was like…”GAY LOVE”!
Was is puppy love or doggy stylin’ going on at MAS?
My prediction: May-Whore Happy Pants is about to be unavailable for comment due to a sudden case of Swine Flu (or is it just Male Chauvanist Pig Flu?).

No one is “leaking” anything here. Divorce records in Kentucky are a matter of public record. It’s what the rest of the public has to live with, and he should as well.
Divorce proceedings are difficult, and it’s something unfortunately a lot of people go through. He’s running for the top office in the city. A mature adult with a good grasp on things would simply answer the questions as they come. With the divorce rate being what it is, a lot of people would probably really appreciate the honesty.
Instead, his first reaction was to throw money and power at the problem in an attempt to hide the issue.
That is the most disconcerting thing we’re learning about Jim King through all this. It’s not what is in the record, it’s how he chose to deal with it.
Jim King’s solution to every problem seems to be throw lawyers and money at it. Whether it’s getting his woefully underqualified daughter a judgeship, or avoiding uncomfortable questions about his divorce, all he does is duck and cover and throw money at the problem.
We don’t need that kind of person in the Mayor’s office right now. We really don’t. All it will be is Cordish version 2. Different players, same game.

Jake,
I have tried to stay a loyal follower since Rick’s departure, but as of today I am finally throwing in the towel. You are off your fucking rocker. I understand that being offensive about things increases your readership, but attacking Christmas? Give me a fucking break. You’re spot in my favorites list has been replaced by Louisville Mojo.
BTW…..I will be shocked if you actually approve this post and not delete it as you have all my others.
Have fun in hell.

Yeah, it’s so offensive to be a non-Christian borne of Jewish blood. I’m so attacking Christmas.
I’ll make it more clear for you: Fuck all organized religion and anyone brainwashed enough to spread your right-wing spew.
Also, fuck Jesus, Allah, Mary and whatever else you folks worship.
Hope that makes it easier for you to leave.

Jake, does the “family is off limits” rule that you’d like to see include an exception for calling the pregnant wife of a US Senate candidate a “whore?”
6 jake // Oct 29, 2009 at 10:03 am
Since I haven’t referred to Allie Mongiardo as a whore, then, yup – that’s off-limits.
But do you really want to bring up “whore” in reference to Daniel Mongiardo, the guy who recently referred to Governor Steve Beshear as a “whore” ?? Really, does someone who receives a portion of their salary from state contracts really want to do that?

David: “…all he does is duck and cover and throw money at the problem. We don’t need that kind of person in the Mayor’s office right now.”
Uh…have you checked the Mayor’s office lately? ‘Cuz that’s what we HAVE right now!
I think you meant, “we don’t need that kind of person in the Mayor’s office EVERY AGAIN!”
Jake: Take two matzo balls and call me in the morning! You could have just yanked his chain by pointing out that Jesus was Jewish and a Rebbe to boot. (Do you think his mother wanted him to be a doctor instead?)

“Ah, the Evil Power of Religion”
George, name me a few institutions that have caused more division and warfare among peoples across the globe than organized religion. Also, what other institution has been more guilty of ethnocentrism? What institution has been more likely to be repressive and rail against freedom? More dogmatically rigid in terms of the intellect? Which have been more prone to induce guilt feelings and called on us to go to Hell if we were not a member of their particular, “Almighty, Absolutely Correct” group? Give us all a break. Merry Christmas.

“Whiny ass titty baby”
And you have the nerve to attack MY posts.
What a joke you are.

BTW, Merry Christmas, Jake!

Aww, I’m a joke… from the racist, bigoted homophobe.
Thanks for the holiday wishes, sweet cheeks.

The sad part of the Affordable Housing trust is how unresponsive the Metro council is of things they could do now. The Housing Authority Section 8 program pays IPL (formally Schreck and Flood) a $400K “management fee” to schedule section 8 inspections. Ward-Pugh and Woolridge are well aware of the criminal activity going on at IPL and why Schreck had to leave yet they refuse to call for an audit. Meanwhile millions are being wasted each year that could be better served by helping real people have housing because IPL is such an incompetent administrator of the program.
All you have to do is send a letter to HUD asking for an audit of the IPL inspection program but the council won’t do it.

Yeah. ‘Cause we all know Jesus is so concerned about His birthday that he instructed his followers to be especially obnoxious in defending it. And victimized, if others object.
Fucktards.

WWJD?
Heal the sick.
And not care if he saw another flocky pink
tree.
Though nothing says ‘happy holidays’ like a flocky pink tree!

“What We Do in Jesus’ Name”
DB, I wonder what Jesus would think about all the crazy, greedy, and evil things we do in His name under the aegis of organized religion. I wonder if He would shake His head at rampant commercialism, consumerism, and the like that we practice at Xmas. Yes, Marie, He would doubtless want us to help the sick instead of wishing for flocky pink trees.
