Louisville Public Media’s fall membership campaign raised more than $400,000 and generated 1,133 new members. [Business First]

The University of Louisville’s Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium will host a telescope workshop and stargazing program on November 7. 7:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. $7 adults, $5 children under 12. $13/$9 for those who want to attend both. Free for planetarium members. [UofL Planetarium]

The captain of the Belle of Louisville refused to allow rescue crews on board after the October 17th accident. The captain said concerns about being pushed further into a dry dock fueled his reaction. [C-J]

An engineer who tried to stop the launch of the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1986 will give a free talk at the University of Louisville on November 3 about the ill-fated project. Allan McDonald will speak at the Planetarium at 7:30 P.M. He’s set to describe the sequence of events and discussions held the night before the launch and the horror of watching the shuttle disintegrate shortly after launch.     Disrespecting the UN is like offending a prostitute. I think Col. Sanders shaking the UN Chief’s hand is far less embarrassing that the oil for food scandal, Rowanda, and their Nation-members of the Humanitarian Council.
