You know, it’s really tough to want to support a candidate who so frequently makes mistakes and blatantly misrepresents the facts. Greg Fischer’s mayoral campaign sent out an email blast yesterday (and the day before) touting Fischer’s Halloween party. The email also included this:

It was our online contributors who helped put us over the top at the end of the last quarter, raising more than any other campaign and besting our closest challenger by 10 percent!

Something didn’t sit quite right with us after reading that portion of the message. So I dug in.

Reality is that Greg Fischer only raised $190,245. He contributed $30,000 of his own funds. That’s $10,000 less than the $200,675 Jim King raised (King contributed $9K of his own funds). Meaning that Fischer did not “best” his nearest challenger by 10%. He didn’t even outraise his challenger.

I emailed the Fischer campaign’s deputy manager but got no response – which started right after I started asking questions about campaign missteps – because they think I’m going to disappear like I did in 2008 when Greg Fischer won… remember that? Oh, wait.

Ugh.

Facts. We’d like it if candidates could stick to them.

That way it’s a little easier for us to promote and believe in a particular candidate. Taking up for their opponent is not something we like doing. Really. So. Come on, kids, let’s right this ship. Please.
