Bobby Jack Gone from WAMZ Radio

October 2nd, 2009 by jake · 28 Comments

Bobby Jack Murphy is no longer at Clear Channel’s WAMZ. Officially, folks at the station tell us it’s for “pursue other interests.” Privately, they tell us it could be because of contract negotiations. But no one wants to admit that on-the-record.

And check this job listening at AllAccess.com, posted by K. Carls:

Are you ready to do mornings at one of America’s top-rated, heritage Country stations? WAMZ has its first morning opening in 17 years. You should have a strong record of ratings success in Country radio, as well as a thorough grasp of the Country audience and lifestyle. This position requires lots of community involvement, plus face time in front of listeners and clients. No beginners. If you’re a talented entertainer prepared to join a legendary radio station, send your best stuff to morning@wamz.com . M/F. EOE.

Based solely on the conversations we’ve had over the past 24 hours, Bobby Jack is definitely one of Louisville’s most favorite media personalities. And we hope he’s back on our radio waves ASAP.

Yet another sad day/event in the history of Louisville radio ! And to think…Bobby Jack was/is actually one of the nice guys to work in the Louisville radio market…

As a former radio guy myself, and speaking from experience (not with Cash Cow Radio…a.k.a. Clear Channel)…it’s clear that not only has Clear Channel ruined radio for the masses, they allow greedy, big salary making fools like Kelly Carls to come into a market to butcher it up, make their cuts, grow the bottom line and have total disregard for the market they serve.

Therefore, I nominate Clear Channel Radio’s next cost saving measure in the Louisville market be as follows: sending Kelly Carls packing back to the underbelly of the corporate rock from which he crawled here from.

He has destroyed WHAS, WAMZ and WQMF…all simply are mere shadows of their glory days in their respective formats. But the boys in Texas could care less…they are simply driven by $$$ and Carls is their local pimp.

Carls didn’t have enough class in himself to allow Bobby Jack to address the issue on-air, tell his audience goodbye or allow him to post a goodbye on their generic website. All references to Bobby Jack were pulled immediately. What losers Carls and his kind are.

Mark my word…no one is immune to these cuts that Clear Channel makes. Regardless of current contracts, watch for the following to be missing from our airwaves within yet another year:

    Terry Meiners – BIG $$$ $aving$ for Carls !

Lachlan McClean – Probably replaced by more syndicated crap…

Francene – Her personal website appears (since it was reformatted) that she is shopping herself out there…probably would be replaced with yet another “conservative” syndicated show…

Coyote Calhoun – Again, BIG $$$ $aving$ for Carls !

Voice tracking and syndicated shows save big $$$ for Clear Channel…as it does for the other large radio groups. Gone are the glory days of real DJ’s and personalities that actually drew listeners in…how sad is that ?

Good luck Bobby Jack…and thanks for your dedication to your craft, your audience and most of all, your community. I wish you the best of luck in your future ventures and know that you will do well.

Good luck Mel…you’ve got the best female voice this radio market has ever heard. They bounce you around between all their stations it seems. You’re a workhorse and a pleasure to listen to always…tell Carls you can do this morning gig alone (or with Ron) from now on…until he decides to cut your spots too…

P.S. Jake, thanks for letting me vent…Clear Channel is just one of those topics I can’t leave alone…and now folks, back to your regularly scheduled reading here on thevillevoice.com website…

    :-)

Sorry, no WAMZ for me! Bobby Jack WAS the morning show. Mel is ok as a back up and I like her but….no BJ, no me. BYE WAMZ!
Like we are so stupid to believe he left for “personal reason” and then not allow him to address his leaving. He NEVER would have left on his own and not tell us good bye. BYE WAMZ!

  • 5 Cheri // Oct 13, 2009 at 6:56 am

I have been a fan of wamz for 15 years. I will no
longer be playing Wamz with Bobby Jack gone. He is the one who made it fun. I not sure what the station is doing but be sure they are losing a whole lot of fans of the station. They keep this up and in the future there might not be anyone around to listen.

  • 6 catina // Oct 13, 2009 at 6:36 pm

I will not listen to WAMZ anymore!!! He did not leave on his own and you all know it!! Mel is ok but not Bobby Jack (sorry mel) He was the best they had period!!! I will listen to nothing if I have to. Please bring him back!!!!!!!!!

  • 7 Travis // Oct 13, 2009 at 8:37 pm

They want to keep listeners from going to sattelite radio and they get rid of there best radio personality. I’m done with WAMZ.

  • 8 SUE // Oct 14, 2009 at 2:55 pm

MEL IS GREAT BUT HER AND BOBBY JACK DID A GREAT JOB OF PLAYING OFF EACH OTHER JUST NOT THE SAME. NEW STATION IN MY FUTURE???

  • 9 louise // Oct 14, 2009 at 6:14 pm

count me gone to – Bobby Jack & Mel together were great – now I can’t stay awake on drive to work – it was their play off each other that made show – off to find another country station to listen to

  • 10 Brad // Oct 16, 2009 at 12:08 pm

Just like everyone else WAMZ has lost a listener that listned to thier station all day. Bobby Jack and Mel Were Great, But With Bobby Jack gone its not the same I’ll listen to some other station now

  • 11 Marilyn // Oct 16, 2009 at 2:03 pm

My whole family has given up WAMZ. We were listeners for over 30 years. New Country 103.1 is our new station. Good luck Bobby Jack and hope to see you out in the community soon.

  • 12 Linda // Oct 16, 2009 at 3:44 pm

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I love Bobby Jack! Ther is absolutely NO WAY he would have left on his own! They kicked him out! No doubt about it. I will no longer listen to 97.5, I’ll go to 103.1

  • 13 JJ // Oct 16, 2009 at 3:48 pm

NO MORE WAMZ for me just like NO MORE WQMF after they got rid of Rocky and Troy!!! No wonder 102.3 is winning Best of Louisville awards – they don’t have any competition!!!!

  • 14 Mary Meyer // Oct 17, 2009 at 8:13 am

I agree that Mel is great and the success of Bobby Jack with Mel will never carry forward. There is definitely a new station on the horizon for us because Bobby Jack WAS the reason I even turned on WAMZ. How sad that $$$$ takes precident over “custome/fan loyalty”. We love you Bobby Jack and wherever you go, we will go!

  • 15 Kimberly Hardin // Oct 19, 2009 at 11:31 pm

Should we protest at Clear Channel or what? I would be the first one there. No offense to Mel but, the first mistake Clear Channel made was letting Sheila go and now this! What a travesty!!! You will be truly missed Bobby Jack!!!

  • 16 Jessica Brown // Oct 20, 2009 at 10:30 am

I agree with everyone no more WAMZ for me. Bobby Jack was WAMZ! No offense to Mel but Bobby Jack was the greatest. I changed my radio station as soon as I figured out the news. Yes it is pretty crappy that they did not let him say goodbye to all of this fans!

  • 17 Carol // Oct 22, 2009 at 9:19 am

Bobby Jack was a BIG HAM — WAMZ is better off with out him.. let him go. He messed up more times than he got it right. The show is much better off without him. Finally the Show got something right. Way to go MEL!!! Hang in there!!

  • 18 Angie // Oct 26, 2009 at 12:55 pm

I miss Bobby Jack & Mel in the morning. Mel is good, but Bobby Jack and & Mel were great. If Bobby Jack shows up on a different station..I”M THERE!

  • 19 janet // Oct 26, 2009 at 6:11 pm

My children and I have listened to Bobby Jack for years. We will miss him greatly and wish him and his family the best. Mel is wonderful on all the stations. Good luck Mel,

  • 20 Mary // Oct 27, 2009 at 11:06 pm

    Rest in Peace, WAMZ!!!!!
As far as I am concerned, WAMZ, you just put the last nail in your coffin. Bobby Jack was the only D.J. you have had in years who actually put some life and meaning into an otherwise dull and useless radio station. I will never listen to your station again.
Good Luck, Bobby Jack!! We will catch you on the flip side.

  • 21 Don // Oct 30, 2009 at 7:28 am

Well, I was gone the week that Bobby Jack left the air, and it has taken me this long to understand something is WRONG. No, I am not a slow person. No mention of him on the morning show, so I knew or feared something was up. I’ve now read some blog information, and have at least one side of the story. Does not sound good. I wake every morning to WAMZ, with BJ and Mel, and sorely miss hearing his voice. Mel’s radio personality, and her “voice” are great, and I wish her well. But, I’m looking for another wake up station. Just not right to move somebody out, after all that time, with NO explanation to your listeners.

  • 22 Carrie // Nov 4, 2009 at 7:37 am

No Bobby Jack, No WAMZ for me . What a lousy thing to do to someone. I guess it’s true that it’a all about the $$$$$. WAMZ you’ve lost a listener here. Best of luck to Bobby Jack. You’ll do great whatever you choose. Louisville loves you.

  • 23 ricky // Nov 5, 2009 at 11:33 pm

  • 24 ruth // Nov 6, 2009 at 10:22 am

I really miss Bobby Jack at WAMZ. The morning show is dull without Bobby Jack. I hope they come to their sences and hires him back.

  • 25 Rita Caple // Nov 10, 2009 at 9:03 am

What a shame that Bobby Jack is no longer with WAMZ. Don’t understand. This is a protest comment. I liked to listen to Bobby Jack. Never liked Coyote Calhoun. Always listen to a different station when he is on.

  • 26 jake // Nov 10, 2009 at 7:18 pm

Okay, time for the same individual to stop commenting over and over, please.

  • 27 Sue Hudson // Nov 19, 2009 at 1:51 pm
