Allen to Announce for Mayor on Wednesday

September 15th, 2009 by admin · 9 Comments

8664.org co-founder Tyler Allen makes his Mayoral announcement on Wednesday at Waterfront Park. He’ll have a ceremony at 11. He’s got a campaign website set up at Tyler4Mayor.com.

Earlier today, he sent an e-mail announcing his intentions to 8664 supporters, indicating he’ll be leaving his duties with the organization in the hands of co-founder JC Stites.

To get the campaign a financial boost, he’s promising “charter supporter” status to anyone who contributes $25 by Sunday, which includes admission to a special event.

It’s good to see Allen join the race. He brings fresh ideas and a fresh face, one that’s not been in public office before. And he’s smart. Whether those traits will get him votes, we’ll wait and see.

After the jump, read the text of Allen’s e-mail to 8664 supporters.

Dear 8664 Supporter,

I wanted you to be among the first to know that I will be stepping aside at 8664.org and announcing tomorrow that I will be a candidate for Mayor of Louisville Metro. I leave 8664.org in the able hands of co-founder JC Stites and a committed advisory board who I would like to thank sincerely for their unwavering support of this critical issue.

These last four years have been an interesting time for our movement. We have raised awareness of the ill-conceived downtown portion of the Ohio River Bridges Project and painted a bold vision for a better solution. Unfortunately, we have also been thwarted in our attempts to get a true conversation started. Even as recently as this summer when it appeared that our Metro Council would be positioned to hold such a conversation, powerful interests seemed to influence them to rubber stamp a new unelected Tolling Authority that will keep this process away from the public.

My experience with 8664 is one of the primary reasons I have decided to seek elected office. It has taught me that many of the most important issues facing this community are deeply connected and the solutions require creativity and commitment. I intend to bring to government the same vision and passion that are fundamental to 8664.

As I move on to a new campaign, be assured that my commitment to 8664 and the vision it represents for the future of this great city will be as strong as ever. As the campaign takes shape, you can learn more about me and take part in the conversation about other issues critical to this city and region at www.tyler4mayor.com.

I look forward to seeing many of you in the months to come. Take care and thank you for your commitment to 8664.

This is great news! You’ve got my vote Tyler!

As an ardent supporter of 8664 and sane regional transportation development, I am delighted to see Allen’s campaign coming together, and so nicely. I think many will be pleasantly surprised by Allen’s vision, passion and biography.

Beyond his vision statement on the front page, I would especially direct everyone to the “Our Future” page — Economic development is the top issue in this campaign, and the way Tyler discusses this matter makes me feel confident our city will be in great hands if he should win the race.

Also, I just wanted to make sure everyone knew the charter amount is $25. Not a big difference, I know, but I just wanted to clear it up.

It would be nice to have somoene who runs that has a green vision not a tunnell vision. How about somoene who supports urban biking, historic presrvation, small businesses, urban farming, turning one-way to two streets, solar energy, and getting a good Mexican restaurant here. What about bringing in green jobs too!

Holy Guacamole! Whaddaya mean, we need a good beaner joint? Nobody can touch the ‘Carne Asada’ done medium rare at Ernesto’s (2 locations) where you should also ask for the ‘dark’ salsa.

Try one of the several locations of ‘FIESTA MEXICANA’ on Taylorsville Rd. for not only the best frozen margarita around, but also good all around menu choices. They used to make awesome Chicken Mole Enchiladas, but may have taken them off the menu. They also do a bang-up job with their shrimp dishes.

Granted, we don’t have anyplace I know of that does killer black beans, hand-made tortillas or some of the more amazing delicacies from south of the border, but we do have several local spots that each do an outstanding job on their own specialties. This time of year, however, I do so long for fresh, home-made green corn tamales…sigh!

Well it doesnt look like Tyler Allens fundraiser will land him in the trouble that Democrat Jim King and Katie king are in since it was disclosed that they violated campaign finance laws in little katies campaign.
Jim King is a wannabee with a big wallet. Wake up Louisville!

Trust me if Tyler wants the vote from Texas, Florida, Arizona, Oregon and Califonria he needs to promise better Mexican food in Louisville. Ernestos might be among the worst places to eat. Hello, where is the vision? Where is the meat? Remember Gary Hart.
Also, are we talking about Charles Cash being thrown out?

EdenSprings, I would give my right arm for the brown salsa at Ernesto’s. It is sooo tasty!
