Really, I’m not being lazy on you today. I’m off to Indianapolis, where I’ll be talking with students in the Indiana University sports journalism program about the media treatment that Rick Pitino’s getting. And the evolution of modern sports media. The instructor is Billy Reed. Sure wish they’d had classes like this when I was in school. And don’t worry, there’s plenty of stuff planned for The ‘Ville Voice today.
Cummings Leaves: No more of those Jerry-bashing press conferences. At least not with Brad Cummings in charge. Cummings, the Jefferson County Republican Party chair, has had enough of the volunteer gig and has resigned. The new chair is J.T. “Jerry” Miller, a CPA with 27 years of health-care industry experience. [Page One]
A St. James Controversy: It may be the only Art Fair in America that prompts a metropolitan school system to take the day off. Some vendors who have rented space just outside the official Old Louisville venue for years are upset that officials say they’re going to enforce a law dictating that property owners can’t rent space to vendors within 100 feet of a festival. At issue is a space at 3rd and Hill that some vendors have been renting for 15 years. The Festival is Oct. 2-4. [St. James]
Crazy Like a Fox: No, Karen Sypher defense team isn’t allowing any competency tests, and her appointed attorney, James Earhart, asked the judge to deny the prosecution’s motion to bar her from publicly disclosing evidence, given that Rick Pitino is busy attacking Sypher in every media outlet in America. Score one for Sypher. [C-J]
And Chris Is In: And running for Mayor will certainly give the controversial developer a stage on which to hammer home his message about the need for transparency in government. Expect Hal Heiner and Jim Ellis, who told me he’d picked up the necessary paperwork, to join the Republican race.

I really appreciate Rick taking the time and trouble to do my class this morning. He did a great job and was well-received by the students. There is tremendous interest in the “new media” and how it might be a viable career option. Thanks, Rick.

Now just wait one minute here!
Rick went to Indy “to do my class”.
Just had to take the shot!
Billy thanks for inviting Rick. I am sure the students enjoyed the lesson.

They need to do a class in Louisville, not in Indy! After all, this is where we have a fawning news media at the CJ and local TV stations that go out and kiss butt rather than asking the hard questions that keep these people honest!
The only real news organization that does this is through this website because they aren’t afraid to step on anyone’s toes.
