Think maybe Pitino just couldn’t take it anymore? Looked to me like U of L officials were as surprised as those of us in the media were about today’s media rant by the Coach. Not one of the several dozen media types gathered at U of L had a clue as to what the Coach was going to say. And officially, no one at the university is commenting.
Are you going to be a good fan and follow the coach’s orders NOT to watch any coverage of the Sypher mess? Guarantee it will lead the TV news at 6. Had Coach kept his mouth shut, the release of the Sypher audio, which contained nothing not already reported, would have been a minor story.
Thieneman Gets An Answer: Metro Government’s Economic Development office finally responded to Chris Thieneman’s open records request. You’ll be shocked to learn there’s no accounting of the spending of the $950,000 from the city in the documents released. It did cost taxpayers about $1,700 for four members of the staff to make the trip to Baltimore. We’ll have more tomorrow.
But Not Tandy: Good for Metro Council president David Tandy, who paid his own way to go on the trip. Still, in a LEO interview, he’s sticking to the story that he saw receipts and is satisfied with the deal. Which is not going to help him in his campaign for Mayor. [LEO]
Wrong About the PO: Wow! All those petitions that Doug Hawkins collected in Valley Station to save the post office may have actually worked. The post office sent a release saying the Valley Station branch will remain open. Sorry, Doug. We was wrong. Interesting that Bob Henderson got in the e-mail blast game to announce the news to his peeps — but he didn’t mention the petition. [BizFirst]
Why Eastwood Can’t Have Nice Things: It’s a frigging dry precinct out there, right by Valhalla, a perfect locale for an upscale restaurant. Residents who don’t want to go 10 miles down Shelbyville Road for a glass of wine with dinner will be voting for alcohol sales in a special Oct. 20 election. [Courier]

Was it just me? Watched the Pitino whineathon today and was struck by how much he reminded me of the psycho coach character on MadTV. Seems Rick blames the media for the pain they continue to inflict on his family while in the process of doing their jobs was particularly exacerbated today by the fact that the 4th estate tripped over the corpse of Sen. Ted Kennedy in their glee to see Sypher’s police interview tapes.
What Rick has overlooked in all his blamestorming is the fact that it wasn’t the media that unzipped their collective pants and rolled around Porcini’s. Had he not committed that indiscretion to begin with, the media would have nothing to slaver about.
Personally, I think what he’s really touchy about is that Sypher repeatedly mentions the fact that Pitino scored his goal with just seconds ont he clock and, however much he may wish to associate himself with basketball, he is perhaps more endowed along the line of another sport: golf.
The best part of the whole thing, however, was his running through a list of current event topics such as the economy, Ted Kennedy’s passing, etc., then saying “It’s time we got back to the important things in life. Like basketball.” Hilarious!
Wonder if they’re going to start serving Vienna weiners at Freedom Hall this season?

“The Cardinal Blamestormer”
Good stuff, EdenSprings. I’m really fed up with Pitino’s refusal to really accept full responsibility (though he constantly says he does). When will be stop playing point guard by passing off his huge mistakes to other entities to avert attention (i.e., 9/11, Ted Kennedy’s death, and the blasted media)? That is cheap bidness, Rick. Please re-read the cheesy self-help books that you pawned off on an unknowing public that genuflected when you coughed. I guess you didn’t believe in your own pablum. Cough, cough, coach–and hold the marbles.

I see Edensprings is whining again about a subject she knows nothing about. Girlfriend, as I said in the other posts, get a boyfriend, husband, girlfriend…I don’t care. You are one miserable human being and all you do is spew negativity on this site. You know, counseling is an option ;)

On TANDY!…..The payment of his own expenses of the trip to Baltimore is the absolute proof that the plan to do a NDA or Confidentially Agreement was done before they ever boarded the plane on the trip. Think Tandy was attempting to insulate himself from the critics in advance , wonder if he paid for his own meals, hookers, drinks etc…..you know ,all the luxurys that come with the perks from a deal with Cordish. Mr Honest & Mr. Considerate he is NOT!….. Wonder if he made the Nolin Lake Boat trip that Cordish foot the bill for this week for all the employees of 4th street.
In todays economic struggle of business’s operating on their own hard earned money and credit, I wonder how many local companys can afford to send all their employees on all expenses paid vacation to the lake.
I’d guess the temp at the Cordish gang is “why Not”….after all we don’t have to paay back any of the development debt, we don’t have to pay any rent, we don’t have to pay any Taxes, we don’t have to follow any of the rules that all the other locals have to , so lets Party!…

Can you imagine a real grown man not taking responsibility like Pitino did? He’s not sorry for the affair, he is just sorry that he got caught. There’s nothing respectable about that. The only reason they didn’t fire Pitino for his actions is because they need to fill the 22,000 seat arena.
Ramsey and Jurich knew that the fate of the arena and being able to pay the tab for everything was due to the fact that they had to have a high profile basketball coach. Pitino fits the bill for that. The reputation of the university and city is not important to them. After all, its a university that already had the Felner scandal, numerous tuition increases, people not earning degrees and instead getting favors, and much more. They know that they have to find a way to fill that arena they built before it becomes the Mistake on the Ohio.
Sure it looks great but anyone in 2006 and 2007 could tell you that the housing market was overheated and the national economy was on the downswing in 2008-2010.
They are obviously proud of what they have done and are yukking it up around town at their functions and at Metro Hall. The big thing will be when its an albatross around the necks of the taxpayers of this city. No one bothered to look out for the taxpayers and those who will foot the bill. Indianapolis is currently running deficits for their sports complexes that taxpayers end up footing the bill for. Cincinnati and Hamilton County Ohio are also have the same situation that they will have to have property tax rollbacks canceled because of budgetary problems.
I wonder if Jim Host or any of the movers and shakers downtown had anything to do with Pitino staying. I find it strange that you have a morals clause yet turn around and keep a guy who fired Winston Bennett from his staff for doing the same thing.

“Anger Management, My Templar?”
Templar of truth, try to get a grip on your anger when EdenSprings expresses her viewpoints. After all, such expression is the point of this blogspot. Pitino was known as a purveyor of “positive thinking.” What is your “positive” opinion of him now? And Rick’s newly found rage doesn’t help him either during his current abominable circumstances (which he created for himself).

Pitino is officially as nutty as Sypher now. They should run off together and make more beautiful aborted babies.
9 WTF // Aug 27, 2009 at 7:44 am
I honestly don’t think anyone is truly sorry for their actions.. They are only sorry they were caught. But, if it were a guy down the street this happened to, it wouldn’t be blown up like this. People are human and make mistakes all the time. One night stands happen all the time, unfortunately..even Bill Clinton wasn’t strong enough to resist. oh what a mess..

Who’s running that university anyway?
11 EdenSprings // Aug 27, 2009 at 9:08 am
U of L: How ironic that they expel a nursing student for doing nothing more than expressing her opinion, but choose to keep Quick Rick on after doing everything in his power to keep abortion clinics fully staffed.
