Time to Crank This Thing Up Again

August 17th, 2009 by admin · 9 Comments

The Last of Hawpe: The final column from David Hawpe includes some reminiscing about Hayloft Hoedown, Iroquois High, the great Jim Ausenbaugh and fishing. 40 years’ worth of local knowledge. Happy retirement, David. [Hawpe]

Struck Out: Some responses to our late Friday news about that trip to Baltimore — first,  somebody ought to reimburse taxpayers for the five round-trip flights, and second, as to that Chad Carlton quote in the C-J, no one is placated, in any way, by the report. [Kaplan]

Let’s Just Say We’re Skeptical: On the heels of that embarrassment, David Tandy announced he’s running for Mayor — in church.  On a Sunday. WLKY and WAVE didn’t even do a story on it, and it didn’t make the C-J’s front page. [WHAS-TV]

Cutting Back on Morals: WHAS-TV’s local “Moral Side of the News” program is cutting back. The station says the early Sunday morning show, which features local clergy discussing issues (wonder what local moral issue they’ve been talking about?) wants to cut out its paid host  — ex-WHAS staffer Lawrence Smith — to save $5K a year.  It’s funded by the Crusade for Children. [Courier]

Flood Meeting: Metro Council members Dan Johnson and Judy Green are holding a press conference today.  They’re co-chairing a committee on the flood.

Pitino-Fatigue Sets In: More than once over the weekend, someone told me they were just tired of talking about Rick Pitino. Yet, the AP interviewed churchgoers, finding most want the coach to stay.  [AP]

A big week ahead. Stay with us.

On the Flood Committee, do they have the power to subpoena God? The wind, ice and rain thing is getting old. Would like to know what we all did wrong.

So to save a paltry $5000 a year, they are going to dump the host of Moral..? They are kidding, right? Look for this show to be off the air in a few years also.

David Tandy for Mayor yeahhh another 6th Jerry Term. Now I know what he has been Jerry’s Boy for all of the issues. Mr non transparent cordish. What qualifications does he really have to lead a city. Oh yeah he did help sponsor the back pack program downtown for those wild kids that jumped on police cars. He also protected Jerry in Frankfort and lied before a House committee. This guy is an idiot that thinks we are twice as stupid as he is.

I wish the Cordish mess got half the attention of the Pitino scandal. It’s a true outrage. Lots of taxpayers being screwed, and certainly not “consensual.”

I wish more of Mr. Ausenbaugh had rubbed off.

These people need to go. It’s everywhere that people are beginning to realize how duped they have been. It’s time for David Tandy to hit the road. He wasn’t even elected the first time since he was an appointment. Jim King needs to be investigated by the state and feds for his campaign financing. Greg Fischer? Come on, really?

The Republicans haven’t exactly set the world on fire either. But they should have been letting Abramson know that they were onto him. Tandy not only carries the water for Jerry but he also does pretty much everything else he is told to do. It works like this, Jerry and his backers really run the show to the detriment of the masses in this city. He’s not even interested in the people of just the East End anymore. Its pretty much the hell with everyone as long as I get mine. That is the mantra of the Abramson regime and Chad Carlton, etc.

If you notice David Tandy, Bruce Traughber and three others rolled up to Baltimore. Guess what they did, they went and did the most traitorous and irresponsible thing. They signed a non disclosure agreement which basically put city finances under Cordish control. That means they can’t talk about anything to anyone because of that contract. Unless someone in the Feds or State steps in, this will continue to happen.

Tandy and Traughber knew what they were doing when they went to Baltimore. They knew they weren’t going to find out where the funds were spent. It’s obvious that they were lying from the first time they talked about it. Cordish could not have forced them to sign that agreement. The city government here has the right to do whatever investigation is necessary. If Cordish does not want to do it, then let them get the hell out of our city. Why should we be held to paying this money to a bunch of people with bad motives. That won’t even tell us what the money was spent on.

I wonder how much of a kickback that all these people received for their inaction. There is something very corrupt going on here. Someone is getting paid under the table for their assistance. Basically this Metro Council has abdicated its responsibility to the people of this city. They have shown themselves as being incompetent at best and rotten at worst.

A whole group of these people need to go. They don’t deserve to be elected as representatives. I’m not sure what people here are thinking but we are all being ripped off by a bunch of crooks. Anything less than seeing who the handlers are and their officials is totally asking to get ripped off again.

If the Cordish situation were equivalent to the Pitino scandal, Cordish would demand $10M from the taxpayers saying they were pregnant, but wouldn’t allow DNA testing to prove that the taxpayers knocked them up.

When pushed, they would then allow a few select politicians to see the paternity test results, but make them sign a confidentially agreement prohibiting them from revealing the results to the public.

Jerry isn’t running for re-election because he realizes that he got us into this mess by not taking precautions on the front end.

Due to Major Jerry’s actions, the city has been been having unprotected intercourse with Cordish for years now.

    Point(s) well taken, Mark.

This whole Cordish mess is a classic example of absymal public policy and abysmal PR — from start to finish.

Who will hire Jerry’s kids after two years of mismanaged meltdowns?

Kinda makes ya’ question the value of (even distinguished) news service as a credential for PR.

I guess a lot of it depends on the honesty and integrity of one’s boss.

Good journalists tend to be bad liars.
