Since Greg Fischer has spent several weeks as the only candidate to officially announce his intention to seek Jerry Abramson’s seat as Mayor, it’s time he got some official company.
Now the owner of Ray’s Monkey House has climbed into the race. Nimbus Couzin owns the Bardstown Road Coffeehouse and is a physics professor at the University of Louisville. And yesterday he issued a news release asserting his position as an alternative candidate, one that opposes deals like the one with Cordish Company for Fourth Street Live.
And as you’d expect from a physics professor, he wants to emphasize academics more than athletics at U of L. And he wants to help independent and green businesses, like his own. We’re shocked.
Actually, it’s great to see a fringe candidate jump in the race. Couzin neither has a chance to win nor will he take votes away from major candidates, but he might be good for some craziness on the campaign trail. Let’s hope he gets invited to future debates.
Oh, and in related news, Otis “Bullman” Hensley has entered the race for Governor in 2011.

Since probably most of us don’t know the guy, I think we’ll judge for ourselves whether he’s “fringe” or doesn’t have a chance. I’m eager to listen to anyone wanting to run for mayor and see what they can bring to the table.

Sorry, but I thought UofL was already emphasizing academics over athletics (proof being Krags).

The candidate stated on the restaurant forum (where he is a frequent contributor) that “academics over athletics” refers to JCPS. UofL’s funding, he explained, is a state issue.
