And The Emmys Go To…

Let’s hear it for our local TV newspeople who went over to Lexington Saturday night, where there was a gala event to hand out Emmy Awards. This is pretty good resume stuffing material, in many cases, or simply recognition for good work.

The professionals from Louisville competed with their peers in 13 markets in Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia. WDRB’s Barry Bernson was the emcee. There were 80 awards selected from 219 nominations. Here’s a list of winners from Louisville:

WHAS-TV: News Special (Windstorm 2008) to news director Genie Garner

WHAS-TV: Human Interest-News (Giavanni’s Battle with Ovarian Cancer) to Andy Treinen

WAVE-TV: Special Assignment Report-News (20 years after the crash) to Connie Leonard

WHAS-TV: Advance Media – Writer (The Year in Blogs) to Joe Arnold

WHAS-TV: Photographer-News (Composite) to Steven Richard

WLKY-TV: Writer-News (Composite) to John Boel

WHAS-TV: Community/Public Service PSAs (Don’t Go Ape) to Kirk Szesny

WAVE-TV: Feature News Report w/in 24 Hours (Junior) to Drew Cook and Scott Harvey

WHAS-TV: Special Achievement: Community Service (WHAS11) to Mark Pimentel

WHAS-TV: Special Achievement: Station Excellence (WHAS11) to Mark Pimentel

Note: In our favorite category (Politics) former WAVE reporter Eric Flack won for a report (No Public Government) for WLWT in Cincinnati. And current WHAS-TV reporter Chase Cain won an Emmy for his work in weather while at Lexington’s WLEX-TV.

For those of you keeping score, Louisville stations collected 10 awards, with WHAS-TV getting all but three — those went to WAVE (two) and WLKY (one).
